Great Car, Affordable Maintenance
Roomy, roof rack, 20-26mpg, the last year Subaru did front-wheel drive on this model, and still it handed really well in the snow and on ice (tires make a big difference too). This model has one of the most reliable engines Subaru ever made. The L is always manual transmission. I bought this car in 2012 with 150k miles on it, sold it with near 210k miles on it. I had to replace both boots twice in the time I had it, but I drove pizza delivery with it so went over the same speed bumps and tracks many more times per day than average. I also needed to do the head gaskets once, a known Subaru gremlin, but everything else was just routine scheduled maintenance. For its age, this car handled well, was comfortable for passengers and accelerated quickly. Incredibly reliable, I would have kept it were I not ready to upgrade. I'm guessing the one I drove will run another 100k+, these things run forever if cared for. I liked this car so much I got another Subie.

95 Subaru Legacy L Wagon
In 6.5 years, I've only spent $450 on repairs. This wagon has gone through upstate NY winters and now deals with the Virginia summers. A solid performer if you do the recommended maintenance. Not necessarily as cool as a sedan, but the Outback's now are a good option. Buy one of these used for a decent car.
472000 and its still tuggin along
This is my first car I bought and I gotta admit it is pretty sweet to drive, Very reliable in the snow as some people have already said. You'd think this car with 472k km on it would run like crap but with High octane gas man this thing goes pretty good. I'd recommend this car to anyone.
Happy Subaru owner
I have owned this vehicle for over 9yrs, it is the most reliable vehicle that I have ever owned. I highly recommend it..
Love this car!
I bought my LS Wagon in '99 with about 60k miles on it. It now has about 100k, almost 3 years later. This is a great reliable car. With certain cars, like the VW's I used to own, I had to put a lot of money in by 100k miles. Not this car. Just basic maintenance- tires, brakes, oil, fuel filter. I did have the 90k mile tune up done for $800, which was worth it, cause this car runs and runs. Very roomy for 4 adults and dog. Pack it up for ski trips, handles great in snow. The ride is a little low- wonder if the Outback is better. Excellent vehicle. Obviously Subaru Legacy wagons are great cars since I see older models on the road everyday.
