Good design, poor electronics driving me insane!

New car. Bad phone, difficult (impossible?) to service electronics. The phone reception is appalling and I have had it checked twice by two different garages. Boot lid opens when I am away from the car. Auto and non auto headlights dont work properly and garage cannot check them during the day. Rear windscreen wiper doesnt clean its full sweep. Mirrors fold in when I start the engine. Car battery goes flat when parked. Great physical design, comfortable, lots of road/wind noise. Just awful electronics and country garages dont do electronics. Sydney garage cannot fix phone - they tried stuffing the microphone with tissue paper! The phone is the main bugbear as I work in the car and sometimes have to get out of the car to make calls on Iphone 8.

We have owned the car for five months and have about 9K miles. Although we purchased as a family car, my wife has decided that she loves the car and has been the primary driver. We only had one issue when we received the car, a defective rear window washer sprayer. We took the car into the dealer and they quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Since then, no other issues. We recently took the car in for the first service which the car info system started to advise us about at around 8.5K miles. However, the Subaru Service Dept. suggested that we should service the car about every 5K miles. The service schedule is so buried in the super thick car manual that we could not find it!

So this reviews replaces my earlier reveiw which was titled "disappointed " . Its been over a year now. It runs great no issues there but at the beginning there was a lot of issues like the gate not opening, things not working then working again after car restarted. After several computer updates over many months in combination of me learning this car and really knowing how it works, I Love it! At the beginning even the dealer didn't understand completely how all these safety features and computers worked on this car. So with time i eventually figured it all out. Its kept me from many mishaps. I especially love the backup Camera and the fact it hits the brakes for you if it sees something in your path getting too close. My husband likes to park his truck and or trailer behind where i pull out of the garage. And sometimes being in a hurry i dont look and if it wasnt for the car looking and stopping for me I have no doubt I could of hurt both our vehicles. Its definitely a safer car to drive but i wouldnt recommend it to anyone thats not able or willing to really learn this car. Its not like just getting behind the wheel and going you really need to understand how all these features work , because it can be soooo aggravating at times but when you understand this car IT'S AWESOME! I just wish that when Subaru put out a brand new highly sophisticated car like this one that they would train their technicians exactly how it all works or ar least make easier reader friendly manuals so it doesnt take a year of driving to really understand how your vehicle works!!!! Communication goes a long way! Ill give the techs at my dealership an A for effort but i give the manufacturer an F for not communicating which makes their cars at the beginning not very user friendly at all!!!

Auto stop start ruins the whole experience

This is one great automobile. I also have a 16 outback touring and I did not think Subaru would be able to top that model anytime soon but the 19 Forester is definitely better. Having said that I must say that I HATE the auto stop start feature and would pay almost anything for a way to defeat it. as it is I have to try to remember to shut it off every time I start the car. If I needed a third car ( I don't) I would definitely look for something that would allow me to defeat the auto stop start. After market products OK! Maybe a Jeep. --- After two years I have more thoughts. If I buy another one I would up- grade to the touring model. After driving other folks Forester's I think the extra features are worth the extra price. However factory installed remote start is a must. and any car without it is a no sale. The Stop start is still the only feature I truly hate. Hopefully the Eyesight feature has been fine tuned by now, because like many other Subaru owners I have learned to turn it off going into certain types of high speed multi lane intersections otherwise risking having the car slam on the brakes while in the high speed lane.

I love my Forester. Traded in a 2015 Outback 3.6. I like the Outback but I love the Forester. Great gas mileage, great on a long trip. Very good nav. system. I cant think of anything I don't like. Drive a demo you will like it.
