Used 2019 Subaru Forester Consumer Reviews
New Suby Forester Sport
This is an update: We now have about 36000 miles on this vehicle, and so far it is performing as expected. The in-town mileage is a bit lower than EPA (~26-27mpg), but it does very well on longer drives (our last trip of about 350 miles returned 34mpg). There are some little issues that we have had to adjust to (for instance, the radio turns ON every time the car is started - all you can do is decrease the volume to zero so you don't hear it, and the cupholders don't seem to have a soft enough bottom so reusable bottles / cups can sometimes rattle), and the storage for small items is not overly useful. There is a small area in the front of the center console that fit a phone, but not when it is plugged in. Also, the port in the console between the seats is power only, and does not connect to the infotainment system, so you have to figure out where to put your phone and try and hide the USB cable. Overall, the car seems very solid and quiet. We did notice more wind noise when we mounted the cross-bars with a ski rack, but now that skiing season is over, we have removed the cross-bars (I suggest doing that if you have any place to store them as they can be very easily removed) and reduced that noise. So, overall, this Suby is more than meeting our expectations. Original review: This is a very limited review as we have only had this car for a week. We have taken it skiing twice, so do have a few miles on it. The ride is pretty smooth for this type of vehicle, and the wind noise is almost non-existent. The road noise does come thru on worn-out pavement, but is quieter than some other like vehicles that we test drove. We have owned a Forester before (a 2001), and expect like reliability and bad weather capability. Compared to the 2001, this is a much larger vehicle, both inside and outside. Washing it is a bit of an effort to get the top. We upgraded the Sport model with Option 24, and are glad we did. We really like all the new safety features - just have to learn them all and them become comfortable with them. The gas mileage for this first tank has been pretty good, reporting a combined mpg of just over 29.

Would have not bought this suv
Only get 18.6 mpg city not 26 mph. Subaru states mileage may very. SOA told me adding a 1/3 qt. of oil every 1000 miles is normal. Adding a qt. every 3000 miles for a 2019 Forester is isn't normal. If I knew this I would not have bought my Forester 2 1/2 months age.

expectations exceed the reality
The trunk is funky the mileage hasn't exceeded 22 mpg either local or highway, I have had the trunk mechanism repaired and replaced and currently with less than 3000 miles the trunk doesn't work at all. The dealer damaged my car while repairing it requiring body work to the right from side and fender, but I had a hard time getting the paper work to support either of these issues. The car hesitates and jerks after a stop, the car does not always start the first time I attempt to start it. It handles great in the snow and the sound system is fine. The electronics for the safety features also appear to be a bit erratic.

CVT transmission is terrible.
Subaru Forester is good in size, engine is ok for patient driver. CVT transmission is not smooth at all. It jolts and jerks each time starting from 25 ml/hour and than at 35 and 45 and 55 and so on. I scheduled appt w/ dealership to fix this issue. I will never lease any car with CVT transmission in the future especially Subaru’s.

Safety features are out of control!
I will never recommend this vehicle to anyone. The eyesight on this vehicle will cause accidents instead of prevent. The anti-collision goes of when the car in front of you goes into the turn lane left or right. Also will go off if your garage door isn’t fully up and you are pulling up to the garage. It doesn’t slightly come on either. It is scary when the bells and whistles and the antilock brakes are activated to maximum ability. Might even cause whiplash someday. Also backs your speed way down way too soon even on the lowest setting. In snow, rain or fog, the eyesight disables itself. The dash is constantly beeping or dinging at you for some reason. If you have to unhook your seatbelt to adjust, your cruise kicks out and the radio is turned off. Also the singer for the seatbelt is ridiculous. If you are moving your vehicle around the yard, the seatbelt dinger goes off and will not stop EVER until you click the seatbelt. If someone unhooks the seatbelt too soon when you drop them off, you either have to turn off the ignition or click their seatbelt back in. Also when using the remote start, the vehicle shuts off when opening the door. The vehicle shuts off any time it stops to “save gas”. I have 10k miles and save .26 gallons saving me a whopping $.65 in gas. The starter has a shelf life and will exceed the gas savings be 100x. Auto play and volume control are an issue with the radio also. Should be adjusted to speed a little better. Settings do not appear to work that well. I would recommend this vehicle without all these features or if they were able to be permanently disabled or adjusted to driving style. Only reason I drive it is because it is the only AWD my work offers and I am in a snow region. Make sure you test drive and check out all these features before you buy. Dealership of course will not tell you how they function.
