Owning two 05’s in 2021
I live in Canada, both ways out of town there are mountains on the highways. I purchased an 05 automatic with 127k miles last year it’s been good to me. I go over any vehicle I own and service it under the expectation the previous owner neglected it so spark plugs, air filter, oil change etc right off the hop I’m about 15k miles into the auto and I must state a few things which are obvious. The automatic transmission is sluggish. While climbing a hill at highway speed it just doesn’t seem to have the gearing to hold the torque and relax it loves to hard slam down two gears and climb I am very delicate with the car because I fear damaging the powertrain it’s a great grocery grabbed and it has been on a 1400 mile road trip it’s not super comfy for long trips. Other than that I get maybe 24mpg in town the car is great My other Scion is a solar yellow rs2.0 manual I purchased this a few months ago If you looking to buy a first generation scion be aware the manual transmission is hard to replace if you damage it. I definently prefer the manual just because of the gear ratio it’s just more sensible for every day situations. Both cars needed struts at 16 years old they both needed bushings for the sway bar on the front in 2021 I’ll never regret purchasing these vehicles 5/5 x2 for me Update, I sold my manual xb which was a poor choice. I then had the headgasket go at roughly 149k miles (it was hard to diagnose i bore scoped cylinded two and found the coolant leak) I then bought a 2018 toyota uaris and transmission and after swapping transmission valve body, transmission harness and the crank pulley etc throttle body and it runs like a top. Change your coolant routenily!

Best car I e owned and I’ve owned 1000+
Bought my 05 with 140k in it for Sven hundreds bucks... was a philly city car so lots of bumper chips etc... the simplicity is amazing it runs and drives perfectly always and gets great mpg ... usually use similar car just for winter to store our mini s convertible, and then sell in spring.. not this time.. no way I could get a better car at any price.

Fantastic little gem
I cannot believe I found a used XB. We had looked for the last several years at the local car shows and fell in love with the XB. We were ready to buy a new one this year. We did not like the new design because it has really cut the gas mileage with the improvements. These cars never show up used here. No one wants to part with them. We got a great deal on a 2005 with only 40,000 plus on it. It is silver with a cute red thunder bolt along the sides & air scoop on the back. We love the room the handling and the gas mileage. We had cruise added it really enhances the over the road mileage. We are nearing 60 and enjoy the nice firm seats. Great for us and so much fun to drive.
Loved everything except the noise
Got the car used, researched a long time for it. great values, have all safety features except side curtains. Easy to mod. Added sound deadening material to the hatch and doors, but the noise is just too much for me.
Over 100K Miles on My 2005 xB
I am very happy with my 2005 xB and would buy another. There have been no problems in over 100,000 miles. I hope the next 100k miles are as good.
