Used 1996 Saturn S-Series Coupe Consumer Reviews
Great First Car
I have a '96 SC2. It has about 145,000 miles on it and runs like it is new. The interior is a little small, especially when you try to pack people into the back seats, but for driving it is very confortable. It has great handling and hugs corners and is very fun, especially with performance mode on the transmission. It is very reliable, everything works, all I have to do is keep the oil changed. Overall, it is a great first car, gets 30mpg and is fun to drive.
Still Looks New!
Excellent bright red paint job that is not found on newer Saturns! Beautiful sleek body with hidden headlights; handles like an expensive sports car!

SC2 fun to drive
Bought an SC2 a year ago with 144K on it. Needed to put our Tahoe aside for awhile because of the gas prices. We already knew the sc2 was a good little car after purchasing one for our son the previous year(a 95) We've had the 96 SC2 for a year so far trouble free. We love this little car. Fun little car to drive. Great gas mileage. Not very roomy especially the back seat, but if you need to vehicle for a trip to home depot, it's great to have the back seat that goes down to give you alot of trunk space. I prefer the SC2 over the other Saturns because I like the sporty look. If you plan to have a lot of backseat passengers, then it's not the car for you.
Mixed feelings
This is a 2001 3Dr SC2. It has been reliable....so far. However, despite proper maintenance it shifts extremely hard. I thought it was only when it wasn't completely warmed up, but it happened all the time. This is an automatic, so I am not mis-shifting a manual. On the other hand, the radio system is awesome for an OMB unit. In addition, the interior room is very scant. My boyfriend is 6'1". He has about 1/2 inch of room above his head (which will do), his legs are really cramped though. No place for him to stretch his legs. Plus, absolutely no room in the back seat.
Dependable and affordable
I bought this car (used) right before my senior year in high school. I am now getting ready to graduate from college and have put a lot of miles, but almost no money into the car. It has been a great car for a college student because it gets awesome gas mileage and has required virtually no repairs. The only thing I've replaced are the brakes, tires, and alternator. It may not be the flashiest or the fastest car out there but it is definitely a good starter car for a young person.
