1993 Saturn SC2
I bought this car in 2001, it had 85,000 miles. The car started to fall apart at 100,000 miles. I have to add 2 quarts of oil between oil changes. The driver side automatic seatbelt is no longer automatic. The gas mileage, about 28mpg in 2001, is now about 20mpg. Pieces of interior keep falling off and I had to screw the door panels to the door frame because they kept coming loose. The only redeming quality about this car is that it was made out of plastic and doesn't rust or dent. I live in Buffalo NY and they salt the roads from Nov to April, but this does not have one spot of rust.
Wouldn't buy another
Had to have altenator replaced right after warranty ran out. Stuck out on road when it happened. Then had to have another altenator at around 75,000 miles. Several other things. I'm afraid to drive out of town by myself in it.
Great Car, feels like a airplane cockpit when seat
I would buy it again......Michelin tires work best. Great sound from stereo, good handling...buy the standard....shifting is easy....learned my first standard on way home from dealership...great car for young adult....dependable and descent mpg....fast when you need it to be.

A great decision
Bought my Saturn SL2 after 15 years in a well-loved VW Rabbit. Can't believe I am at 12 years in the Saturn - it still looks almost new. I got sidswiped in a parking lot and was able to scrape the other car's paint off with a cuticle stick, re-wax, and voila, looks like new. Any other car would have been $1000 in the body shop. After a few mechanical glitches under warranty which the dealer cheerfully fixed, I have had no significant problems and have spent very little money on the car other than preventive maintenance. Buying this car was a good decision! I am hoping for 4-5 more years while the kid is in college.
Drove until the wheels fell off
Bought car new in 1993. I am finally going to put this car to rest on its 17th Birthday. It has been aweome. It currently has 527K miles on the originally engine. I got the 5 speed std and have replaced the clutch once at almost 300K miles (Wierd). I drive lots of miles but mostly freeway. I have performed standard maintenance on the car from day one. I changed oil every 5 or 6K but I have used only synthetics. 17 yrs major repairs are 2 timing chains, three upper engine mounts, one fuel pump, two catalytic converters, mufflers, two wheel hubs, front seat and one AC sys conversion. She Needs valve job (Repair Cost 1700, bought the car for 12K) last car payment 12/1996. Outlasted 6 other cars.
