Used 1997 Nissan Truck Regular Cab Consumer Reviews
Wrong!
I have already invested more money repairing this truck with 67,000 miles and after having owned it for about 1.5 years, then I spent on a Civic with 160,000 The check engine just turned on for the 3rd time in the two years I have owned it. First was the O2 sensor, second was the evaporator. It just went on a third time and I have not had it checked out yet. I need to have the timing chain, guide, and cover replaced [about $800]...apparently this is a problem inherant to Nissan 2.5 L engines which Nissan never recalled. Plus there is a radiator leak and the power steering pulley is going bad.The gas mileage does stink and the truck is underpowered.
Not so good
This vehicle has been one problem after another. I bought it thinking it would be a reliable 4WD vehicle but I have been let down.

Good Transportation
I think that it has been a very good truck. The only problem I have encountered has been the engine check light. First was speed sensor that turned out to be replacement of the speedometer head. I have had continual problem with air tempature sensor. The check light has come one three times and nothing wrong with the sensor twice. However, had to fix broken wire at connector block due to poor quality of wiring harness.I have discussed this with Nissan. I get tired of expense of reseting the computer. Repair shops are aware of both these problems. Basically, great truck to get around in, but should get better mileage.
Best truck Nissan ever made.
I had a 1997 4x4 Nissan reg cab years ago. I regret ever selling it. I used it for everything and it had over 200,00 when I sold it. Wish I had one again. If Nissan made it again I would buy it immediately.

Tough Truck
My 1997 Nissan truck has been one of the most dependable, reliable vehicles I have ever owned. The only problems I have ever had in 10 years of ownership are the alternator failed last year and the vehicle speed sensor failed about 2 years ago. One strange original problem was the truck leaned to the right, I also see many others like that. It turned out the torsion bar was not correctly adjusted from the factory, very easy to fix. I have to admit it does have a bumpy, stiff ride and it not the best on gas mileage, around 19 mpg.
