MSRP was half what Toyota was!!!
Rescuing Toyotas is fun ~ I have owned ALL brands of full size trucks, and both Toyota and Nissan in which my 97 Nis is my third. This one I won't be getting rid of... EVER! It is amazing what this truck can do with 130ish horsepower. I've pulled out every make and model from mud, sand, snow and everything in between and that all done with a completely stock Nissan! This is hands down the best truck I have ever owned and probably the reason they made only cosmetic/minor mechanical improvements in the 14 years of making it. As Ive read in some of the reviews, this truck being named a poor mans Toyota is absolutely absurd. No Toyota has ever matched any of my Nissans PERIOD :) Cheers
Great Truck
I have owned this Nissan XE since Nov 1999 with just 16000 miles on it. It now has about 80k and has not given me a single problem. I've only had general maintenance done to it. It isn't the most comfortable vehicle to drive nor is it prettiest, but it gives relatively good gas mileage (about 22mpg) and the engine is strong. The AC is always ice cold and it runs like a champ.

The Little Truck That Could
I've had my little Nissan for about three years now, and I'm about as impressed as I can be. She just won't die. Don't get me wrong, I'm not TRYING to kill her--she sees regular maintenance, and I always let her warm up on cold days... With that considered, we've gone 156,000 hard miles (on and off road) together with only minor problems (water pump/thermostat at 110,000mi, and a Throttle Position Sensor at 140,000mi). Now, she's not that pretty, but damn she's loyal. I could see her hitting 250k easy. If you need a work truck, or just simple reliable transportation. You can't go wrong with these old Nissan trucks.
Workhorse
I bought this truck at 55,000 miles. Now, it has 166,000 miles.I have used it for Pizza Delivery for the last 4 years. During this period, I have not done anything other than scheduled maintanence. I get about 320 miles on a full tank of gas.
Great Truck
I'm the original owner of the 97 XE 2WD pickup. I've only had to replace the alternator, otherwise it's been trouble-free and very reliable. I'm still driving it...will likely be driving it several years from now. :)
