Used 1995 Nissan Truck Consumer Reviews
FANTASTIC TRUCK
I purchased this truck from the second owner with 151K miles. I have driven it to 168k and had absolutely no problems with it. Installed bucket seats from a 95 Pathfinder ... recovered the headliner and installed 16" aluminum wheels and it looks like new. AC is original and will freeze you out. Engine runs smooth and quiet - especially for a 4 cyl. - and has never let me down. Small oil leak was fixed with a new valve cover gasket. This is a Colorado truck, so no rusty frame issues. If you can find one - but it. You won't be disappointed.
Best Truck Ever Made
This little truck is the best ever made in terms of reliability...beats the famed Toyotas. I bought mine new and have had is ever since. I have 152K on it with no repairs as of yet except brakes, battery etc... I get offers weekly for it as I feel it's true value is about 5K now even thought KBB says about $1,500. You can not buy one for less than 3-5K. I will probably keep it forever as it is a rare item--something made well at a good price. They should make vehicles like this again....simple and basic.

Proud Owner of a Nissan Hardbody
I purchased this vehicle brand new and after 14 years of ownership, I have to say that I would not give this up. This truck is very dependable and cost of ownership can not be beaten. I have abused this vehicle more than enough times by hauling over its weight limit and towed more past its capacity and it has never failed me once. Maintainability has been very cheap. Only had to replace suspension bushings, and shocks along with the scheduled oil changes. From my standpoint, I will keep driving this truck until the wheels fall off.
Original owner...two teenagers and still rolling
Yes I am an original owner and still have the truck 23 years later. Close to 200k. Motor isn't as quick as it use to be. Weather stripping, paint and interior showing signs of sun wear of southern ca. Still drives great close to 190K. Needs a new speedo. New clutch at 180K but I blame the two new drivers that had it for killing the clutch before 200K. Little things here and there but over all tremendous on longevity. Yes no cup holder sucks and the cassette radio has finally died. Truck four wheels like a champ and is great in the snow.

An awesome truck
We got this truck in '97 when it was revoked from the previous owner because he couldn't pay the payments. We have 287,000 miles on it currently and have never really had any problems on it besides a transmission going out(Due to lack of replacing fluids). It has gone all over North Carolina, and to the Beach. It is currently in poor condition due to being mistreated for so many years It is going to be fixed right back up with a new paint job, tires and some other thingss LOVE THIS TRUCK
Best car I've ever owned!
My dad bought the 95 Nissan truck for $10,500 in 1996 when I was 16 years old. In 2006 he gave it to me, and now at 34 years old, I still drive it everyday as my primary vehicle to and from work. Currently it has 180,000 miles on it and is showing no signs of slowing down. Besides routine maintenance and replacements, in almost 10 years I've only replaced the starter and power steering pump. Everything still works, including the tape deck, A/C, heater, speakers. I wax her twice a year and the paint has held its own with no signs of rust. Blue Book estimates this car is only worth about $1,500. To me, I know I can get several more years out of her. My son is five, and I'm thinking I might be able to give it to him when he turns 16. If you can find one, buy it!

best truck ever
Have driven this truck in lots of terrain, highway and city and just love it. I don't have a heavy foot, except on a very straight empty stretch of highway and I average 28 MPG on highway. Not bad for a truck. Have 160000 miles on it and only exchanged the drive belts and battery and the tires, and of course the oil. I am looking at buying a newer car, but when I hear that 32 mpg in a sedan is considered great gas mileage I step back. I can almost get this in my PU truck. Been in several accidents, three times rear ended, once a seven car pile up on the freeway, with my kids in the extended cab. We were the only ones driving away. I feel very safe in it. Handles great, has small turn radius.
Best model ever designed
0 problems in 196,000 miles except cracked exhaust manifold, i've worked the truck hard rev 6000 rpm for considerable time, also drove in city, interstate and tough offroad. I get 17- 21 mpg. I will not ever sell, transmission will work better with extra cooler installed. VG3.0 is a great engine, just change oil and spark plugs the rest will work forever!!! Whoever requested push button 4x4 is wrong, best thing is shifting into it!!
A Great Little Truck
This truck has served me well for many years. A few months ago I turned it over to my teen-age daughter to drive to college. She immediately totalled it (sheet metal) in an accident. I told my insurance adjuster I wanted it rebuilt because I knew what it was and how it had been treated. I was very willing to give up a couple thousand settlement dollars to keep this little jewel in the family.
Great Truck
Bought it with 89K miles in 2001. I have 198K miles as of 11/2009. V6 burns NO oil, but leaks alittle. Auto trans was newly rebuilt when I bought it in 2001. Auto trans are a weak link so I put in a trans cooler the first week and have had no problems. 100% reliable truck. I replaced the exhaust studs(weak link) when I changed the timing belts at 100K as a matter of routine. I change the oil(Mobile 1) every 5K miles and all fluids every 50K. Water pump went at 180K all elts still original. SE model has everything and everything still work like new. Body starting to rust due to NH salt in winter. Will by a Frontier when this one goes.
hard to fault
averaged 80,000mi/yr-little engine maint.-except routine-oil,filters,plugs-very owner maint friendly-5sp clutch av 175,000/change,weaknesses- could use stronger ft brakes or antilock all- around fronts had pro to lock up- brakelight sockets had tendency to lose contact- pain to replace with top& full liner
love it
awesome truck, all i have to say
Busted frame
Do not buy! The truck frame is rusted through - cracked from the front wheel to back wheel. The engine, transmission, body are still good but the frame broke. Do some research and you will find Nissan trucks and Pathfinders have bad frame metallurgy and the frame is likely to break long before the engine.
My truck
I got this truck for my 16th birthday, and I will turn 18 this December. It's gotten me through a lot, including hearding cattle, being rammed by cattle, being stuck in ditches, and driving through ditchs (all body damage has been repaired). I take it camping, and hunting, I also drive it for fun through downtown with friends.
fast enough to woop a civic
i used to rase my truck a lot and this truck put up with all the high reving and hard turning i have done with it even on top of that it worked caring loads to the dump or hauling building projects around and even made plenty of trips to georgia from florida with all that work it completed it still lasts me thoughover all the truck has been put through a lot
I Love Nissans
This truck is awesome! I bought it with 49,000 miles on it and I now have 100K. I have had not one problem with this truck. The only thing that I have done is change the oil. I have spent $0 on repairs. The guy I bought it from ran 10w-30 fully synthetic and I continued to do as well. It doesn't leak or burn oil. I have taken this truck and buried it in mud and lakes and had to get pulled out by AAA. The truck is stock except I bought new wheels and 31" tires. 0 Problems. I think that it is amazing and would recommend this to anyone. I have owned a 87 sentra, 89 maxima, 95 hardbody, 90 300ZXTT with only 29,000 miles. I have had no problems with any of them. Nissans are the best!
1995 Nissan Pickup SE v-6 4x4 trans issues
The little pick up is a great truck, fun to drive and will go anywhere. The only problem I have with mine is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (vss) keeps breaking inside the transmission and I don't know why. I bought 3 of them valued at $120 a piece and will put the new one in, it will work great for about 5 miles and then break inside the trans. Gets real old real fast replacing a small part that keeps breaking. Now the check engine light is on which doesn't bother me. Over all the truck is awesome, slap some MTs or some aggressive ATs tires and its ready to go anywhere. Being a 4x4 v6 with 31/10.50R15 tires it gets ok mileage. Being an ext cab is has great leg room up front but the 2 back seats are small and is uncomfortable for even a kid to sit back there, great for storage tho.

Almost 200000 miles!
I bought this truck about a year ago from a woman who allways followed her dealers service menu. It has been flawless. With 180000 miles it does not use or leak a drop of anything. The a/c still works. I will definetly buy another Nissan truck if this one ever quits.
I bought her new
I really don't know why everybody else has rated the truck so poorly. I have really had no problems with my truck in 170,000+ miles. Had to do the starter motor@165,000. Other than that just the maintance. Gas mileage is not the greatest 16-21 but what 4x4 does?
Very dependable little truck
I bought this truck new and have been very pleased with it. It's rather basic with it's 4 cyl and 5-speed but it carries itself very well and is good on gas (26 hwy-same as when I bought it.). I've done little than routine maintenance and the only "big" dollar items I've bought have been a pair of front brake rotors at about 165,000. It's never been in a mechanic's shop. My kids can ride in the back with ease, but they will soon be outgrowing that. I'm scoping out a later model Nissan with more creature comforts but will probably keep this one since it'll probably never wear out and no one will give me what I think it's worth.
Why don't they make these anymore?
Dependable little truck. I have no idea why all auto makers suddenly decided everyone wanted a big truck, I like having a small maneuverable truck. The Nissan Frontier gets the same mileage today as it did 20+ years ago? This thing has 200K and the original clutch is still going strong. Few small issues that I was able to repair myself over the past 20 years with a couple exceptions. I rated instrumentation 'Poor' because the tach has been broken for years, and the odometer only registers miles about half the time now. But apart from normal maintenance, I've probably spent maybe $1000 in repairs over two decades- pretty nice. I'd like a crew cab as my son is now too big for the rear jumpseats unless it's a short trip around town. But I won't trade until their new ones bump up their mileage. For the mix of decent enough mileage, reliability, a peppy V-6, it's a great truck value.

Still miss the "big guy"
Happy to see that there remain many Nissan hardbodies still scampering around the country. I owned a 1995 SE 4WD extended cab with the 3.0 VG V6 and 5-speed manual. Jet black on the outside with grey cloth interior. For its' time, Nissan was the class of the compact pickup market. Was well assembled with everything fit together perfectly with nary a rattle (which is more than I could state for the Acura MDX I bought new 15 years later). Loved driving that truck, and the ride became almost car-like after I replaced the stock Firestone ATX tires with Toyo Open Country (with NO loss in traction). The manual enabled the truck to get decent acceleration from the 153 horsepower VG30E (I tested the automatic and found its' acceleration unacceptable to me), although my son claimed his Tacoma with the 2.7 4-cylinder (with automatic) had better pickup from a standing start. I never drove his to test that theory but maybe he was right. In truth, the VG V6 did the best it could; I had no problem getting to over 90mph but in a pickup truck, driving at that speed is not a good idea. Aside from that, it really was a reliable (smooth and quiet actually) motor which is proven in that the truck remains on the road today (24 years later) under its' third owner. Hauled everything asked; got an amazing 24 mpg on the highway, pretty good for a 4000 lb. vehicle. Radio sounded pretty good but the shallow rear speakers had limited bass sound. The 4WD system worked flawlessly and handled even 14 inches of snow like a dusting. Had mixed feelings when I sold it over seven years later, but I needed an SUV with a real backseat for three kids. If I could have kept it around as a second vehicle, I'd likely still be owning it all these years later.

Bulletproof reliability
Outstanding reliability; only 2 repairs in 20 years: starter at about 12 years and alternator at about 15 years. Otherwise, only routine maintenance. Tows and hauls way more than you would have thought for a 4 cylinder engine. Still runs like a top at 163,000 and 20 yrs. Minor issue with blower fan at 170,000; seems to run better with mid grade gas. Otherwise, still used almost daily around farm; but wouldn’t be afraid to set out across the country in it. Just invested about $700 in new tires and a few minor repairs, so I expect to use it for several more years. My daily driver now is a new Frontier. At 175,000+ miles, had to change drive belts recently; then had to replace radiator because repair shop broke neck of radiator where upper hose attached and it was not repairable; so did complete system flush with new water pump, etc. Also, now have to use no ethanol gas and Sea Foam to keep running smoothly. Engine has lost a lot of power and needs to be “decarboned.” It probably needs a new catalytic converter. I’m okay with that at 177,000+ miles. I mostly use it around the farm and for short trips to nearby towns, so it really doesn’t get used enough to keep it maintained. I finally sold the tough little truck because it sat unused most of the time, and it needs to be driven more often. I recently ran into the current owners and they are very happy to have it to use around their rural property.

Love this picktup!!
I bought this pickup with 14000 miles and it now has 214000 miles. This pickup runs better with weight in the back. So smooth. I have replaced a few items, like a/c compressor, timing belt, alternator and that is about it. It still has the original muffler and clutch!! Very well built vehicle. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Although, I am thinking of getting a full size pickup and might end up selling this in the near future. Check Craig's List in the future in you want it.
good truck
engine is not too peppy. driven this car for 4 years almost no repairs needed.
Super reliable, great looks!
I love this truck! I'll probably keep this p/u forever because it will probably run forever. Lots of power--it really takes off when you hit the gas. Surprisingly good gas mileage, even for an auto. Very few problems--only the alternator has been replaced, and had some minor electrical problems w/ the tail lights--replaced those and it's been excellent ever since.
nissanpickup
This truck has been bulletproof. The only replacement has been the alternator which failed this year. 4x4 has been flawless. The only issue is the 4 cylinder engine. This is the slowest vehicle you will ever drive, almost to the point of being dangerous when merging on expressways.
tenn dude
Great, dependable truck. Little workhorse. Have had no problems with it. Biggest complaint is bad fuel mileage.
I have 278,000 miles on my sky blue nissan truck
GREAT: I bought truck new and has never burned oil. I have never had engine work done. dependable. looks great. 4x4 works great. after 21 years strangers still ask me if I want to sell. GOOD: plenty of power for climbing hills and towing for a small truck. blue paint looks new except over the cab top. Interior in good shape. NOT SO GOOD: transmission had to be rebuilt at 198,000 miles. CV joints needed to be replaced at 165,000 miles ( cost $500 to professionally replace). Summary: I have never babied this truck. I've been stuck in sand bars buried up to the axles on streams 50 miles from paved roads. I've pulled 40' RV's out of snow banks. I've gone places a coyote wouldn't go. bottom line: this is the best vehicle I have ever owned ! since 1/18 I've replaced clutch and throw out bearing.

Great Truck
Bought this right out of college. great 4x4. Fun to drive. Reliable, had to redo the valves at 95k, engine runs even better now. No major problems, A/C still blows cold. Could have used more HP. The 4x4 wieght was a bit much for the 2.4L that comes in this thing. Solid quality interior(basic) and solid build. Uncomfortable on long hauls but that comes with the bench seats. Handled rock trails in Co. with no problem when I was up there. Love this truck.
Great truck for cheap
Needed a truck for regular home owner stuff. Found this a few years ago for cheap. It's been a great truck.

Reliability
Bought it brand new in Sep 1995. Currently have over 200,000 miles. I have no complaints on the reliability and mechanical performance of my nissan. I seem to get a little better gas mileage, approximately 22 mpg, after I put in a K&N air filter. And I would agree with the other reviewers' in that a cupholder would have been nice. Being that I am 6'2", it would have been nicer to have a bit more leg room.
Reliable little truck
With over 151,000 miles on the truck I have had only one problem: had to replace the starter. Not bad in my opinion. I think that the V6 has plenty of powre for what I do The 4x4 system works great in the snow. The ride can be a little rough. The auto transmission shifts well and has givin me no trouble. I bought the truck originally because it was several thousand less than a comperable toyota Pickup and I'm glad that I did so. I would not hesitate to buy another Nissan but I dont think I will need to for another 50,000 miles at least.
Nissan Truck to last
I have had no problems with the truck, the only sore spot is under powered and the gas mileage @ 16 city and 18 highway. Otherwise a good buy!
underpowed reliable truck
owned one 10 years. it got 17 miles a gallon with a 4cyl engine my new truck has a 8cyl and gets 19-21 mpg. it never broke down, but was uncomfortable to drive (i am over 6ft), was noisy, underpowered (esp. on hills) and had minor mfg defects (you could not roll down the windows and then role them back up at highway speed without the window jaming before it make it all of the way back up)
Rotten Frameq
Nissan trucks have a problem with the frame. The frame rots out. Unbelievable. The frame on the truck should not rust out. Told by my mechanic to junk it because of the rotted out frame. Unlike Toyota that made a deal with owners, Nissan basically just said caveat emptor, i.e. buyer beware. Kept having to repair the E-brake. E-brake kept getting clogged and need to be cleaned.
Love my truck...still going
I bought my truck new in 95, and it has 155,000 miles on it. Great truck. No frills, and poor gas mileage, but has been excellent overall and very dependable. No major problems at all. Wish I could keep it forever.
One Tough Little Truck
Bought this baby new back in college. 200,000 miles and 12 yrs later, I still don't want to part with it. I wanted a Toyota, but they wanted $5K more for one. I was never crazy about the 4 cylinder, but it was all I could afford at the time. I changed the oil religiously. I towed many thousands of miles--sometimes a 3000 lb 20 foot runabout, hauled countless loads of firewood and rock, buried it over the front bumper in mud, had the back tires 3 feet off the ground, and it just keeps going. The 5 speed made the truck--keep the rpms up and she'll do most anything you need her to. Decent enough mileage for a 4x4-- 19ish, still the best designed jump seats ever in an extended cab pickup.
Great all-around Compact Truck
I love to 4X4, and this little beast does great. The gearing in 4Lo is perfect for the windy little 2.4L. Gas mileage is about as good as it gets (drive her easy and you get 300+ miles per tank) but if you want to play in the mudd, then well, don't expect more than 17. The engine is reliable (I like to think of it as just the right truck for taking a camping trip). Me, my beautiful wife, our important gear in the rear extended cab, and the rest of it in the back. Heck, you can even sleep in the bed (and for you all who can't hold it through the night, it does have a plastic liner;) All-in-all, you've got a fantastic Go anywhere truck that has more power than the other 4 bangers offered in 95.
Buy a dozen like it!
These are the best small trucks made. Only maintance done has been replacement of starter at 84000. Good gas mileage, everybody that drives or rides in it, loves the truck and wants to know what I will take for it.
not bad
Bought the truck brand new in 95 and have had it ever since. Relatively few problems. Front brake calipers rusted at 110k and had to replace (about $300). Blower motor went out recently as well. I now have about 120k on it and am looking forward to having it until I put about 200k on it.
Luv da truck
Love the truck, I have had it for 100,000 miles now, and it's still going strong. I haven't put much money on it yet, appart from maintenance. It's very reliable, dependable, and you gotta love the look. It rides like a truck though, and the interior is very old fashionned compared to the american trucks.
Tough - Hardbody is an understatement
I bought it new and abused it amost from day one (Dirving hard, heavy tows, not maintaining fluid change schedules etc.) Used it for cable-tv installation (very demanding on a vehicle... think pizza delivery with ladders and equipment). Only repairs, brakes a few times, clutch at 80k, starter at 110k. despite other reviews, I think comfort is not bad for a small truck.
Nissan not what it used to be
I have owned my SE-V6 over 7 years since new. I have become fed up with the many quirks that have cropped up since it was only 2 years old and had 11000 mi at that time. I have owned 8 Nissans in that 16 years and this will be my last. Nissan's quality and dependability have steadily gone downhill for years. Remember, there is a reason why their sales never come near Toyota and Honda.
tuff truck
I have just bought a new 2005 nissan truck to replace my 1995 nissan xe- pickup...Now my 1995 has 299,000 miles on it and still runs good..I feel that I really have received my moneys-worth on this truck.. the truck still has a 5- speed that hasn't needed to ever be replaced..The rear brakes are the same...Even the AC works great!!! This has been a great truck to own and I hope that my 2005 will give me the Great service that the 1995 has brought me!!!!
Great Overall Transportation
Build quality is first rate. Solid, tight, good performance, and fun to drive with 5 speed stick.
Dependable
Bought it new and now have 110,000 mi. Changed spark plugs once but give it oil changes at 3000. Adjust A/T and changed fluids at 90k. Like the power shift and O/D lockout. Mileage could be better,17 mpg in general use. Paint and interior have held up well.
The little truck that could.
This truck is pretty much unkillable.... It was and still is my first truck and I ran it hard. I'm talking airborne, redlining, hauling, towing, drifting, crashing, commuting, ect. It did it all. At around 280,000 miles it was stolen, taken on a weeklong off-road joyride, and abandoned in the snow for another week. Once recovered, I still drove it home. It's not fast or super flashy, but I and anyone who has seen her in action will testify to its sheer capability.

Great Little Truck
My 2nd Personal Nissan Truck, I put my first one thru Hell... Pizza Delivery 4 years, Phone Book Delivery, mudding, etc... and definatly got my money's worth, it gave me well over 200,000 miles of dependable service, if you maintain them they will last a long time. A friend got well over 350,000 off of his '93 with original engine, tranny, clutch... with this new one I love taking it to Hill Country in Tx and throw it in Neutral and coast down the steep hills, get well over 75mph+ from almost a standstill on the top... beats any rollercoaster anyday..
