I have had the car (Rogue Sport SL FWD) for a month (if you live in a place where the roads are loose, snow, dirt, gravel. I would use the AWD version), and I agree the engine is underpowered. But I disagree with the seats I live in Carlsbad, and I went on a trip to the Onyx summit, east of L.A. 7 hours in the car and it was very comfortable. im planning to drive over to anchorage. The only faults I have found, and im being honest, the engine is underpowered. You will feel a lot of the bumps (if its a pothole, not usual bumps), the road noise is excessive but not to the annoying point where you just want to stop, and the cargo size you can fit 2 suitcases with the parcel cover but with 2 carry on's you cant have the parcel cover (doesn't fit).

Better Than Pro-Reviews Say

2018 Nissan Rogue Sport S 4dr SUV AWD w/Prod. End 04/18 (2.0L 4cyl CVT)

I've owned my 2018.5 Rogue Sport S for almost three years now and I have a lot of good things to say about it. First, I bought this car for it's overall value, and particularly because it came with safety features that cost much extra in most competitive brands - where else can you find front crash avoidance and true blind spot monitors in an entry level package (hint: the answer is "nowhere else")? Second, after driving several other vehicles in this segment, I came away feeling this was the most substantial of the bunch - I can't quantify that statement, but I can add that the car is reassuringly solid and extremely tight (as in no rattles). Lastly, and this gets to my review title, the driving performance is way better than professional reviews indicate. That is not to say this is a sports car, nor is it a luxury ride, but it is a competent small SUV that can easily merge with traffic in most any conditions. It also has no problems mustering up the energy to pass on the highway, or to cruise at 75 to 80 mph. All together, a very nice car at a great price. The only downside is a troubling A/C issue that my local Nissan dealer has not fully diagnosed. My car appears to have some faulty AC controls, or perhaps a bad evaporator thermostat. Other than that, the car has been great.* *Update 2022: the climate control situation is still there, and a quick check of the internet indicates it's fairly common in Rogues and Rougue Sports. Since I live where it is always hot, I tend to be able to just leave it on full A/C without too much trouble. But, if I switch to defrost, I run the risk of losing A/C for several hours. Wierd and annoying, but quite infrequent in my case. I wish Nissan would issue a recall, as not having reliable climate controls can be a driving hazard in some situations.

This is a good looking SUV inside and out. Love its responsiveness and maneuverability. Plenty of room for passengers in the back seat and a good sized cargo space that includes small storage areas within it to hold various items including the first aid kit that comes with the car!

SUV Feel in a Small Package

techeng, 11/13/2019
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport SV 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
13 of 13 people found this review helpful

I acquired the Rogue Sport by trading in my Nissan Kicks as I felt the Sport gave me the feel of being in a SUV as opposed to the Kicks, which felt more like being in a car even though it's considered a crossover (see my separate review under the 2019 Kicks as to what I didn't like about it, even though it was a decent vehicle). Again I'm mainly comparing the Sport to the previous vehicle I owned (the Kicks) because it met my need to have a more refined interior, even though other SUVs in its class may have even more elaborate interiors the Sport looked and felt pretty posh, from the front and rear seats being more comfortable to a more refined dashboard and console than my previous Kicks. Despite being a SUV, the Sport's interior felt like it was hugging me or surrounding me but not in an uncomfortable, claustrophobic way, but rather just a really nice fit for me and my wife at 5'6" and 5'4' respectively. I certainly do not recommend it for people closer to 6 ft., otherwise go to the full-size Rogue. The ride of the Sport seemed a little softer and quieter as well. I do hear the engine noise but it's not as noisy as these other reviews make it sound like, and I do prefer to hear little engine rev as I'm driving along. I also like the fact it has rear climate controls so heat and AC can be blown to the passengers in the back through the rear vents in the back of the center console, which again my Kicks didn't have. Exterior wise I think the thinner slit of a grille up front is more attractive and aggressive looking than the new 2020 Rogue Sport which they enlarged the black area of the grille slightly to look more like the front of traditional Nissan vehicles. My SV has the 17-inch alloy wheels as opposed to the 19-inch premium wheels the higher trims (SL) have, because I heard the larger wheel actually provides less rubber and therefore a stiffer ride. I've only had the Rogue Sport for a few days and may provide a long-term update to this review after a few weeks, months, or even years, but for the time being it has certainly met my expectations and fulfilled the shortcomings my Kicks had which is the reason I decided to trade it in after owning the Kicks only a few short months. The only thing I probably wish I had on my Sport was the remote start which my Kicks had, but I'll take the AWD in lieu of the remote start, which I never really used. Costs a little more than the Kicks but unlike other reviews, including professional ones which say the Sport is not worth the added cost over the Kicks if you're looking for value, I disagree and I think the Rogue Sport is worth the added cost if you want more of an SUV feel than the feel of a raised car that the Kicks provided, which I think is basically a Nissan Versa Note with a facelift.

It is the perfect size for an older adult. I have plenty of space to travel , haul grand children around, and running errands. I love it is sporty, but yet classy looking. I purchased the Sport Rouge brand new off the lot......I commute approx. 45 min each way to work and it is a comfortable ride and just the right size. I do wish it was a 6V, but I feel it has a enough power. The gas mileage is great . I am very happy with my choice and plan to drive my Sport Rouge for years to come.

We have only owned the 2018 Rogue Sport for 3 weeks. We have found everything as expected. It was purchased for a run around town suv as we have a larger suv for family time, trips and picking up large purchases. The Rouge can perform the same duties in a smaller package. Would have loved a power tailgate and power passenger seat but was not offered. Nice that it looks like a sleek suv than a square box.

Melinials will love the technology more than I. There's a lot to learn for a 60+ Baby Boomer, but I'll get the hang of what I'll use. I would prefer not to have a touch screen...That's too much eyes off the road time for me, and find I travel alone 99.99% of the time, I'm stuck with not using the available technology effectively, or not at all.

Tires beware

We love this car overall. Until recently when we got a flat tire that could not be repaired, no issues. Try to find a replacement tire....next to impossible. Apparently, the tires (225/45R19 92W Bridgestone ecopia), are specific to this model according to the dealer, and are very hard to find replacements. We called around to other dealers and tire shops and found the same answer. We finally decided to replace both rear tires with another brand that was available. Why would Nissan allow a car to be sold without enough replacement parts(like tires) available. No help from the dealer at all, just drive around on the spare for two weeks until they can find a tire.

After 7500 miles on our 2018.5 SL AWD, we've found no significant deficiencies. We bought it for the tech features such as automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, various alerts, etc., but the comfort features, such as leather upholstery, adaptive cruise control, excellent sound system, and quiet cabin make it a very nice vehicle to drive. It's not a high-powered car, but has ample performance for normal urban/suburban driving and cruises easily at 75-80 mph. We'll have it for a long time unless something unexpected occurs. 2022 Update: 32000 miles. No mechanical or system problems and no OBD codes. I am not sure the engine thermostat is working properly since it seems to take longer to warm up on a cold morning. I think it would be better riding with larger tires vs. the low profile tires, but it's OK in that regard. Gas mileage is good, about 24 mpg around town. Overall, well satisfied with the car after over 3 years of use.

The CVT transmission I've been told is the reason why it doesn't immediately respond when I romp on the throttle. If I gradually press the pedal it tends to respond better but this isn't much help when I'm trying to merge onto freeway traffic. Got the Sun & Sound package that included a sunroof and premium sound system. The SL trim level included leather upholstery which is nice. Wished that the Midnight trim package was available for the Rogue Sport, alas it's only available for the larger Rogue. About six months after purchase I received a card from Nissan telling me that there's been a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) issued regarding a fault with the automatic braking system engaging for no reason. As it's still under warranty I took it in for service even though I hadn't had any problems (the loaner I used, however, did have this issue when mine was being prepped by the dealer). All that was required was a software update which took about 30 minutes.

Absolute Disappointment and Unsafe Pro-pilot

Sid Arya, 05/13/2019
2019 Nissan Rogue Sport SL 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
39 of 47 people found this review helpful

I leased this car knowing that the engine was under-powered, so i am at fault there. What i did not know was about the pro-pilot and what to expect. As a customer i paid a premium for these new advanced features. With the pro-pilot on , the car is expected to center itself in the lanes in highway driving conditions. It does for the most part...that is the kicker..'for the most part' . For the part it does not, it puts safety at risk. Last weekend on a drive from Chicago to southern Illinois, this is exactly what happened. The pro-pilot kept taking the car over the shoulder line. Thank god I noticed it on time and took corrective action. When do you take the said corrective action, there is resistance in the steering. You have to be even more alert while driving on the pro-pilot. So what is the point of having a feature that is supposed to make driving less stressful and safe. Added to that, I had to turn off the lane departure. Every time you try to change lanes to pass, the lane departure warning comes on and followed by the steering resistance. Next major issue is the road noise. I dont know, it is probably the performance tires on the SL. It is loud. Not desirable for long trips. While the noise is an annoyance, the pro-pilot is hazard. The concept is novel but, I think it was released out to the market without proper testing and the technology has a long way to go. Should have just stuck with the Murano :\

Mechanical problems start early. Making this car worth less than half of what you pay. From day one back door doesn't close properly. Battery didn't last year and half and can only buy from dealer, within two years radiator fan went out and can not be bought after market ($320) ridiculous. Top it off 2 years 5 months in, 120k miles NEW MOTOR!!! Who would ever imagine? I'm sure I'll be replacing a transmission soon after if this vehicle follows normal Nissan maintenance. My previous Nissan Altima had a transmission replaced 105k and I've got two others with same issues with transmission. Nissan needs to go back to the drawing board with vehicles or warranty power train a bit longer. I've owed some vehicles that should have never outlived a Nissan but this one is the worst by far. I will never buy another.

I bought this car after having a 2015 Toyota Corolla stick shift, which I wrecked. I test drove several other cars in this class , Honda, Toyota, Mitsubishi , Hyundai, Kia. Some outperformed the Rouge Sport , with power, others with comfort. It then came down to price. All cars in this class have same transmissions and engines , you pay more for the extra features , that later break/fail. I opted for the base model with alloy wheels. I drive 35 miles to work ( I have 35,000/bought new ), which involves mixed driving. On the interstate I cruise at 75-80 mph, no issues. Pass/merge with ease. Although "Sport" I think is play on words in looks only. In stop and go traffic it is able to keep up and move with ease, but it's not going to outrun too many cars, it only has 138-141hp. I drive alot in western NC mtns. Accelerates up steep mtns easily, it does get a little whinny but the rpms don't go past 5000. Its nimble around corners/curves . Brakes are above average, mixed traffic , curvy mtn roads .... Comfortable ride in the front . Back passengers tell different story, on trips longer than 20 miles . I rode in the back for about 50 miles and felt cramped , I'm 5'8'' and the seats were a little stiff. That's ok for me as I don't have alot of passengers riding in the back. Gas mileage is good not great, as my driving requires me to " put more pressure on the gas pedal". As I stated earlier, the price is what helped my decision, I got an amazing deal !!! I don't feel that I sacrificed anything, l enjoy my Rogue Sport !!!

31000 miles/52000 kms The AWD makes a real difference in the snow and on ice. The fit and finish is holding up well with no rattles or leaks. The safety features are really nice to have with the audible alerts especially in parking lot areas. I am pleased with the gas mileage mid 30 mpg and up on long hauls. Would definitely buy another one. UPDATE: A nice reliable vehicle good on fuel and well appointed with safety features. Purchased new from dealer. 40,000 miles and no issues.

The car is the perfect smaller sized SUV with a roomy interior in front and back. I plan to take family on many trips with it. Nice safety features, however it does not have the automatic stop back up feature or the foot activated lift up feature for the back hatch like the regular Rogue. Nissan can't you add that to the Sport in the future!? The ride does seem more "bouncy" than I'd like, but overall I'm happy with the purchase.

I love this car! I’ve had it for a year now, nearly 11,000 miles. It’s pretty solid. I drive mostly city miles so I needed something with great gas mileage. The safety features have saved me time and time again, especially the blind spot warning feature. It is great and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to drive a car that doesn’t have that feature. Great car, no problems, solid feel, super safe! 6/22/22 Still a great car! 12/23/22 Still a great car!! 12/28/23 I still have this car and it’s still a great car! I’ve passed it down to my teenager!

I have really tried to like this car. Yes, it is reliable and has not given me mechanical troubles. However, I just feel that for the price of this vehicle, I could have done better after shopping around recently. It just has not been what I wish for in a car. I have the 2018.5 SL which has a sticker price of about 32-33k. If you wish to purchase this vehicle, I would make sure you do so with significant incentives. For this price point, you could get get a bigger, higher quality Jeep Cherokee with more features if you shop right with incentives. It is very underpowered, extremely noisy, takes forever for the car to warm up in the winter and I am always freezing, Windshield Defroster might as well not even exist, Can barely feel the heated seats. I also cannot stand the trunk cover in the back. While it can be removed, I just feel that an SUV/Crossover should have an open trunk with tinted windows and I should not have to take my entire car apart just to haul a larger item. This car may be what some people are looking for, but I will be trading in this year for sure...for something bigger and built with higher quality (and likely for a similar price)

I bought my rogue sport brand new, after the 1st 6 months it started giving me trouble. After I fill up with gas the car cuts off, the air conditioner went out within 8 months. The engine fan went out causing it to run hot and the air to stop working! I’ve gotten nothing but the run around with Nissan and they will not resolve the issues due to they can’t duplicate the problem. I have it on video and my daughter has been with me every time these issues have occurred. I will never own another Nissan , the car and customer service are terrible

Bought a 2019 Rogue Spot SV new. At 14000 miles started having random flashes of the dashboard night time lights when not even on. The infotainment system freezes up and will not work for days. The climate control changes on it's own. When taking off the Problematic CVT jerks and is constantly loud. Fuel reading does not work properly which Nissan issued a service bulletin on so they already know it's an issue that they claim is not an issue. Unless you put a certain amount of fuel in it does not give a somewhat accurate reading. Have a constant rattling noise coming from behind the driver's seat. Have taken to dealership but their answer is always we cannot find any problems. Seats are like sitting on a slab of concrete on road trips requiring multiple stops to get out and rest your backside. 3 1/2 years into ownership counting the days to getting it paid off so I can dump it.

I just got into a car wreck, so went car shopping for my first SUV. I’ve always driven cars, so was a bit worried about the size difference while shopping. The salesman showed me a Nissan Rogue Sport S, I test drove it and loved it. I’ve been in 2 accidents and my neck and back constantly hurt from it, I have so much trouble getting into cars, but this is perfect for me. It is such a smooth ride. I don’t feel any bumps, if you have to slam on your brakes it or smooth as well. Love this! We bought it with only 8 miles on it.

2017 Rogue Sport - I've had for 16 months

Overall, it's 5 stars for me. One of the few things I wanted easibility of getting in and out. I am handicapped and too high of an suv is a problem, but not with this Rogue Sport. 2nd major thing I was looking for was improved gas mileage: my last vehicle was lucky to get 23 -24 mpg. My Rogue Sport has gradually improved to now I'm getting 31 mpg, combined driving, love it! 3rd thing was I wanted AWD and that hasn't affected the gas mileage. I read lots of complaints about this vehicle and for me have found negative remarks untrue. 2 things I would add or change: 1) darker tinted windows especially on the SL trim. 2) A power liftgate is again should be part of the SL trim level.

Nice, beautiful car. Only 17.500 miles mostly on highway, maintenance I made regularly in a dealership. I have indor garage . After 3 years stop working AC. On dealership after some testing give me a price for repair: 08NIZCONTR - HEATER A/C CONTROLS $175 A/C Horses: low pressure line off compressor $261.56 A/C condenser Replacement $963.99 OOMPI - PERFORM MULTI POINT VEHICLE INSPECTION $175 Total $1489.48 I think Nissan would issue a recall, as not having reliable climate controls can be a driving hazard in some situations.

This vehicle has the loudest take off of any vehicle ( besides a truck ) I have ever owned. I am embarrassed at a stop light because I am the only one that can be heard leaving . It is smaller than the NISSAN ROGUE. so if you need extra cargo space , won't have as much as the ROGUE. If you can stand the noise , it does get good gas mileage but that is the only good quality of this vehicle .

It has no space at all inside, it might look big but it is not spacious at all, the front part uses ridiculously a lot of space and being in front, I feel literally, my face stick to the glass and in the back seats there's very little to no space at all, the cargo area, has ZERO space which is very inconvenient for travel because it will fit only one luggage bag and no more than that, it really sucks! I regret a lot to lease this one because honestly, the NISSAN VERSA HAS way more SPACE than this one, incredibly true, I miss my VERSA A LOT :/

Bought a Nissan Rouge Sport in 2018 with 11 miles on it. Ive driven it not even a year yet. I will admit that i did not have regular old changes BUT i cannot believe that ALREADY im being advised by a Nissan dealership in Texas that this car NEEDS A NEW MOTOR. WTH? I CANNOT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND THAT THIS CAR WAS NOT BUILT TO LAST PAST A YEAR OF DRIVING.

Bought new and so far very pleased with the unit. Really good in the snow and gas mileage is impressive. Interior heater is slow to heat up. The vehicle has a slight surge or tug at 50 mph (80 km) which according to the dealer is characteristic of the cvt transmission. The safety sensors for blind spots and backing are excellent. Easy to get in and out of.

I am in the Nissan roque sport as a rental car while my Ford Escape is getting repaired and oh my lord I never though I would miss my 2017 escape so much. Speakers are terrible acceleration is about a 4/10 technology is minimal and even the gas refueling annoyed me (have to push a button inside the car to get the gas tank to open and then it has a screw on thing). Had to write a review on this car because it is really not my cup of tea and I am not enjoying driving it however it may be the base model and my Ford Escape is not so that could be making a difference however the features are pretty terrible on this even for a base model

Comfy Rogue Sport

I have leased my Rogue Sport going on year 3 and still love the SUV. Just the right size. Very comfortable seating and plenty of room front and back. Deep storage area in the trunk and my dog enjoys the ride in the back seat. The first few months with the vehicle I had a scare with the Emerg. Braking system and had Nissan turn it off. Otherwise, no other issues and am thinking of buying it out at the end of the lease. It also has great pick up and exterior looks sporty also. Love the look of the headlights!

Then the Extended warranty Nissan office don't care about, because when Nissan have you sign about that it's not under their Nissan company. Car has been in the shop since July 12, 2021 and now its July 27, 2021 Extended warranty is over and still not fixed yet. They want even give a loner car so I can go to work. Now I am going to be out of work, because I want have my car. A car that was paid off last year.

I had an Altima with a lot of issues so i decided to trade it in. They got me on the loyalty program.. I purchased a brand new 2019 rouge S. I really only needed more room for my dogs. It was hard to fit 2 dogs a kid and my husband (ended up being less room than my Altima unless i had the seats down and still no room for the husband!). Almost immediate I started having issues. So many I’ll probably miss how it rolled over a hill in park while it was IN PARK! I was on a first name basis with the service center! No air conditioning in a 100* heat wave? No problem it happened twice! Want to drive around for a month with a broken part in your steering column, this is the car for you! Love getting warped rotors and jerking as you’re desperately trying to go above 20 up a hill being road raged or pulling out on a highway while horns blaring at you, than This is the car for you!! Also never have I had my timing belt and serpentine belt go on car with less than 15K miles on it, but it happened right as the fan blew up! I purchased this brand new 2019 in March 2020 <outright no loan> I traded it with years left on my warranty in 2022. No loan to now owing 5500 after a 9K down payment on a new vehicle to get out of it. I needed a car to drive not one to spend weeks at a time in the dealership service while I was given a “no pet” rental. I will say the safety features were nice but they’re also standard on the vehicle i traded it in for. It also looks nice but spring for the extra exterior warranty because that paint chips like an old apartment building and the inside scratches like it’s made of wet nail polish. I painted it twice paid to get a coating the second time but by then i had rust spots underneath. Seriously in 2 years purchased new… never again will I go back to a Nissan!

My windshield cracked for a reason that I totally don't know. My Nissan Rogue is only two months old. I took the car to the dealership and they said that something might have hit it. My thing is that for a car that is supposed to be so good it should take more that a pebble (the dealership said it could be that) to crack a window. Obviously it would not be cover by warranty . I am really unsatisfied with the Nissan and needless to say that this would be my last one . Lynnes Nissan in Bloomfield New Jersey offered to help with some of the charges and that has been the only positive thing in this whole ordeal . I guess I should have gotten another Toyota. If a windshield could crack just like that anything else could happen. Talk about safety!

This SUV has been superb. It is comfortable, economical and very attractive. I really love the CVT. I drive in the economy mode which is fine for my driving style. Also, the assisted cruise control has never let me down. I plan to drive this car for quite a bit longer. In summary: I would definitely buy this again. Five years later; It is still a great car; absolutely no problems to date.
