My favorite body style Nissan! Not my favorite -$$
I bought this car with 174 thousand and I believe the individual (it only had 2 prior owners bf me) saw a sucker coming! So far I have replaced the wiring to the headlights, the clutch slave and master cylinder (twice in a week mechanic thought he had a bad part) hub assembly on drives side, lower control Armand tie rod on passenger side( think it needs the wheel bearing replaced now)! I’ve replaced the alternator the battery and connectors!!!! I love the car but someone was rough on it and saw me coming a mile away! It has been in the shop more then on the road in one year I have put less then 8thousand miles on it. It is now in the shop again as it went into limp mode! Every mechanic that I use says that motor wise these cars can run up to almost a million miles! Oh and the clutch is sticking again!

Very Reliable
Bought it used last year & the title was rebuilt so I was kinda iffy on this one, but I talked the guy down to 1800. I drive it to work everyday. The car gave me 0 problems so far the only thing i’ve had to change was the alternator, axel, & control arms car drives very smooth & fast. The only minor issue is the gps being connected to my AC system & I don’t have the original CD for the gps system, so I can’t really control my temp from the screen other than that AWSOME CAR

Good first car
I've had my Maxima for the past five or so months and so far it's been doing pretty well. Aside from the check engine light flashing on every so often, I've had no issues with it (other than the ones it came with but those have been taken care of). Gas mileage could be better (getting about 17 in the city) but aside from that, highly recommend this car for your first car.

Fast. Just keeps going.
bought the '02 in January '23. Had around 150,000 miles. A little over two years later, have put around 45,000 miles on it. Numerous road trips of 1,000 to 3,000 miles. Road noise not great in-city. On the open highway, it's pleasant. Sound system not much to speak of. Mileage decent at around 26-27 highway. 17-18 in town. These cars are FAST. Years ago, had a '95. Even with the smaller engine, it was fast, and surprsingly quiet on the highway. The '02 ... well, when you need some sudden speed to accelerate or pass, it's there for you, and then some. Just for fun on one of those empty highways in the middle of nowhere, I pushed it to 115 mph. Smooth as ice, and plenty of power left. Only maintenance was replacing one of the coils shortly after I got it -- expensive they are, at $1200. Just put on new tires. Brakes still fine, I think due to most of my miles being highway miles, and I drive easy when in town. These cars are road warriors.
Rattles and buzz
Car was great for the first month. now we get a grinding noise right after shifting into drive and the gas pedal and steering wheel buzz and shake. Been to the dealer twice with no results. Last Nissan this family buys.
Stay Away
This car stinks, it's a rattle trap. The resale of the car is terrible. The suspension feels like it came from a truck. Stay away from this car at all costs. I should have bought a Acura TL-S or Lexus IS 300 instead.
ONE BAD MAX
VERY NICE CAR,YOU WILL LOVE TO DRIVE THIS CAR FAST....
2002 Maxima SE 6-Speed
this car is great. my first car, and i love everything about it. great performance, and luxury.
good car for the money
this is my 2nd maxima. i really enjoy driving this car. it is very fast, and rides smooth. i looked at the acura tl s-type and the infinity i35. both were very similar to the maxima. the maxima though was thousands cheaper. i never had a problem with my first maxima. that is why i chose this car again. reliability!!!!
A mixed bag
This car has been a mixed bag. The engine, transmission, and interior have held the test of time. It currently has 130K miles, but right around 100K it turned into a money pit. In the past 30k miles I have put close to $5K in it for weird things like a new brake system and electronic engine mounts. It's always gone to the dealer for regular maint. The worst part is the suspension. It's crap! The road is absorbed through the steering wheel and the struts always feel loose. I've also had a constant wheel shimmy that we live with. I will keep it as long as possible, but I just bought a second car Lexus ES 350. It's no performance car but I love the ride.
A truly beauty
This car is a wonderful car for the young driver. I had a '95 Maxima before I got the '02 SE Auto. I got into an car accident a little over a month and my old Maxima GLE saved my life. The car is built so well, and care is taken to ensure its perfection. I enjoy driving my '02 Maxima SE Auto as it is very roomy and sporty. The car is great for anyone who like driving a sports car, but prefers a 4-door sedan. The suspension on the car is great; I have tested it out on a number of roads. I would highly recommend this car to anyone who wants a safe, beautiful, and enjoyable car.
Who Says the Maxima is UGLY?!
Great car!! Near luxury car with the performance of a sports car. If you are looking for a car that will take you from 0 to 60 in under 7 seconds, has room for 5, has the one of the world's best V6 engines, an impeccable reliability record and has luxury amenities to boot all for under $30K then look no further than the Max!!
Nissan Maxima SE
My wife and I own a 1997 Nissan Maxiam SE with close to 100,000 miles on it. There has only been two things wrong with it (Belts broke ($36 fix) and alternator (Factory Recall). So far (knock on wood), it's a great car. This is why we decided to spend the extra buck and go with a 2002 Maxima SE with every avaiable option including the navigation system (which rocks). I recomend this car to anyone. They truely are great cars.
still a little cheap
The car is great but when you hit a bump, it doesn't feel much different than my Camaro. It handles exceptionally well, accelerates well, but the bumps get ya. Also, the transmission feels "weak" and seems to stall when shifting.
Great Car
This car drives wonderfully, and the power is great. Considering the size of the engine and the power, fuel economy is pretty good. My mom got into an accident, and the rear right door has a large dent in it from mid- door down, and although it looks awful from the outside, it did nothing to the inside, which shows how well it is built. There is plenty of room in the backseat for long trips, and it is very comfortable. The turning radius is large. After four years and about 56,000 miles, the only thing that needs to be done (other than routine maintenance) is that the timing belts have to be replaced.
New Maxima SE
My new Maxima SE is a great car. The new engine offers tons of power, the ride on the SE was a little harsher than I had expected. In all this is a great car, if you are looking for a comfortable ride try the GLE. If sporty handling with great acceleration is what you need try the SE.
Bad Transmission
My transmission died at only 76,000 miles. I bought it used so i assume it was driven hard by the previous owner. I do still love the car though, its faster than most other cars and looks good too.
