2025 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0

Adjectives aren't enough to fully describe how good the 2025 Porsche 718 Cayman is to drive. We've tried mightily over the years, however, describing the "genius of the perfectly weighted steering" and "world-class handling" on a winding road. "Absolute bliss" is another way we put it, and the waxing became only more poetic after driving the six-cylinder GTS 4.0 and GT4 RS. Quite simply, if you're looking for an outstanding driving tool and don't have exotic sports car money, it's really hard to beat the 718 Cayman.

In terms of mid-engine sports cars in its price range, the Chevrolet Corvette is the big bogey. Emphasis on big, especially in terms of overall size and engine displacement. They are very different cars, but they're also two of the best sports cars. For a lower price, you could consider the BMW M2 or, for something with even more practicality, the Audi RS 3. Ultimately, these are the types of cars you pick with your heart rather than your head. Test-drive as many as you can and let your heart and bank account decide the rest.

It has been widely reported that the 718 Cayman is going to be replaced by an all-electric version, potentially next model year. The timing of that is still TBD, however, and it could very well be that Porsche does the same to the 718 lineup as it did for the Macan — have the new electric and old gas-powered versions live on simultaneously. If you're thinking of owning a 718 Cayman long term as a future classic, buying one for 2025 seems prudent to us.
