1996 VR4 - a superb GT car

They stopped making this car - too bad! High performance, luxury, sexy styling in a two door coupe (today performance cars are either 4-door sedans, tiny roadsters or underpowered coupes like the Monte Carlo)...also VERY reliable. What's wrong with todays consumer - in my youth 4-door cars were for "dorks".

Best GT Car I've Owned

This car is not a sports car, it's a grand touring vehicle. It's meant to go very fast on straight lines in all elements. I'll start with the acceleration. Stock the 1994 and up TT models do 0-60 in 4.8-4.9s and the quarter mile in 13.4-13.6@102-105mph is very impressive even now. Many owners, myself included, have run 13.2/13.3s with just a K&N air filter. It makes the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo seem somewhat lacking in speed. The boost is very strong and pulls until redline. I didn't mod mine besides the K&N but the potential is definitely there. Handling is very good for a heavy car, but it can't be thrown around like the slower Z32 TT. It nose dives. Brakes are amazing. Interior is luxurious and modern. Not much to say about it really. Some tall drivers may think they can't fit but I'm 6"3 and I owned my VR4 for 4 years. Wish I hadn't sold it! OK

220,000 Miles and Counting!

I use the car for commuting. Its 5M transmission and 222HP engine provide good performance. It definitely is not a dragster, but it is fast and sure-footed. It handles well under all weather conditions, including snow. I recently replaced the cloth seats with leather, the factory wheels with sport wheels, and the transmission. It has required some expense to keep it running and looking well, but it seems to have been worthwhile. People admire it everywhere I go, and I enjoy driving it. After all the miles, it still has no rattles--NONE.

We have owned three 3000gt's so far. My husband has a gorgeous low mileage '93 vr4, we recently sold a '93 red sl and we found my '96 in Houston two years ago. I LOVE MY CAR !!! I drive 50 miles highway to and from work 4 days a week. This car handles wonderfully in bad weather. We've had very few problems with her even though she has high miles.
