The Mini Countryman is a solid pick for an electric small SUV. It maintains its fun-to-drive personality and style that the brand is known for. However, competitors provide more space and battery range for the same money.Read full review

Overview
Redesigned for 2025, the Mini Countryman is a compact crossover SUV with five-person seating. Positioned as an alternative to entry-luxury SUVs, the Countryman has a quirky and colorful personality, inside and out, and turbocharged engines supply speedy acceleration. In addition, an electric version offers gas-free driving and a modest 212 miles of estimated range. The new-and-improved 2025 Countryman is larger than the model it replaces, making it more comfortable and capable of carrying cargo. However, based on our initial impressions, it isn't as fun to drive.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2025 MINI Countryman JCW ALL4 Iconic 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 7AM) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.74 per gallon for premium unleaded in Georgia.
Edmunds spotlight: About the Countryman's new tech
Mini advances the Countryman's technology on two fronts. The first concerns the infotainment system, housed in a circular center touchscreen that mimics the oversized speedometers found in old Minis. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, Spotify is built-in, and the digital voice assistant is a British dog named Spike (you can change that). You can even use AirConsole technology to transform your smartphone into a video game controller and play on the center display. The second front is the SUV's safety tech, which is more refined overall and now includes a hands-free driving assistance feature that works at speeds under 37 mph.
Competitors to consider
Mini prices and positions the Countryman as an alternative to typical entry-level luxury crossover SUVs. Primary rivals include the Audi Q3 and electric Q4 E-tron, the Mercedes-Benz GLB and electric EQB, and the Volvo XC40 and electric EX40. The performance-oriented John Cooper Works competes in a more rarefied market, counting the BMW X1 M35i and Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 as its main competitors.

edmunds TESTED
We drove the 2025 MINI Countryman on our test track and on real roads. Our Edmunds team
conducts rigorous independent vehicle testing, driving 500,000 miles a year.
How does the MINI Countryman drive? We tested the electrified Countryman. Mini calls it the SE All4. It's much quicker than the gas-powered version. At our Edmunds test track, our SE All4 test vehicle sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The electric Countryman is responsive from a red light or passing at highway speeds. Braking is confident and poised, especially under panic stops. The Mini also allows for one-pedal driving. The main gripe remains the ride comfort, which is overly firm. You'll notice every road imperfection, which could make it uncomfortable for some.
Previous versions of the Countryman have always been fun to drive and toss around, and the latest one is no different. From twisty roads to highway driving, the new Countryman retains its signature driving experience and improves on much-needed low-end acceleration.
Comfort
7.5/10
How comfortable is the MINI Countryman? Overall, interior comfort is good in Mini's largest model. Getting in and out of the Countryman is no problem since headroom and legroom space are plentiful. The cabin is insulated well from road and wind noise, which is good since there's no engine in this Countryman to cover up any sounds. Seating is supportive and easy to adjust, but we found the padding firm.
In-cabin tech
8/10
How’s the tech? Overall, tech features are excellent, but usability is a concern. The high-resolution infotainment OLED screen graphics look sharp and tech features are plentiful. But there are hardly any physical buttons to operate simple features such as climate controls, possibly leading to driver distraction and usability issues. Accessing features in the infotainment menus requires too many steps. We also dislike how Apple CarPlay or Android Auto looks on the screen because the interface is shrunk down to fit within the circular display.

How’s storage and cargo? The Mini Countryman's luggage volume officially clocks in at 25 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 56.2 cubic feet with them down. This falls short among competitors such as the Tesla Model Y. Storage and cargo space are fine for small families, but you likely won't have extra room to spare. Interior storage for small items is minimal, with center-mounted cupholders and a small center console cubby. There's also door storage available to all passengers, but there isn't much space elsewhere.
Value
7.5/10
Is the MINI Countryman a good value? The Mini Countryman lineup doesn't offer the best value against competitors that provide more battery range and space at similar price points, such as the Tesla Model Y. You could get better acceleration, more space and range with this kind of budget. Just know you're paying a premium for the Mini experience, prioritizing distinctive styling inside and out and the fun-to-drive quirky character Mini has become known for.
While the Countryman is more expensive than rivals, we found build quality and overall fit and finish to be better than most of the competition. You pay for it, but the interior feels a little more premium and upscale.
How’s the fuel economy? Edmunds observed a range of 218 miles and an efficiency of 32.2 kWh/100 miles in our SE All4 test vehicle. We tested the Mini's fast-charging speeds, and it averaged 265 miles per charging hour, meaning it takes about 23 minutes to add 100 miles of range. As the rating suggests, these aren't the most competitive numbers among comparable electric vehicles. You could improve on these important EV metrics by considering other competitors if you aren't loyal to the Mini brand.
X factor
10/10
The Mini Countryman's X factor is its biggest strength. This vehicle's personality shines through in its driving experience, interior and exterior styling, and Mini design elements such as the signature circular-shaped infotainment screen. The EV powertrain adds to the fun-to-drive experience with off-the-line zip and passing power. However, the X factor alone isn't compelling enough to ignore competitors that offer quicker acceleration, more space and battery range for similar money.
Which Countryman does Edmunds recommend?
Unless you want the electric version of the new Countryman, we recommend the S All4 trim level with the Iconic equipment and Favoured Style appearance packages. The drivetrain offers standard all-wheel drive with good acceleration, and the upgrade packages unlock appealing features and a more expressive look. Consider getting the adaptive suspension option for improved ride and handling qualities.
