Fun to drive, interior setup needs work

Overall the drive is great. The hybrid gets amazing gas milage, the main reason I picked this one. But the interior setup is very poor. There is hardly any storage, the piano black huge gear shift cover scratches, and the cupholders are tucked under the dash buttons. The main storage is the center console that has the dual opening doors. This looks cool, but it's just one giant bucket. There's no additional storage anywhere else on the dash other than the above glasses holder. There is a huge chunk of the gear shift cover that is this beautiful glossy bright piano black, the only drawback is that it scratches just from looking at it! It makes me sick to think about what this thing will look like in 5 - 10 years, and I don't even have kids. And lastly, the cup holders are tiny and tucked up in front of the gear shift / under the dash buttons. I can hardly fit anything larger than a medium sized drink in there. Last week I tried to get my cup from home out and it got water all over the gear shift and electric buttons that are contained there.

MOM WAGON WITH STYLE BUT SOME QUIRKS

This is a beautiful, functional vehicle. Its large interior is of good quality. The engine is the A25A FXS from Toyota, with transmission and some suspension if I'm correct. My first impression of the vehicle is that the door has a solid thunk when closed. We purchased the 25' hybrid premium. Coming from a 21' CX30 Premium there are some trade-offs in offerings I"'ve noticed: no heads-up display, no swivel adaptive headlights, and the seat belt straps are not as thick as the 21' cx30 or 21' cx5. It may be me but the vehicle does not feel as solid as my 21'CX5 GT or the 21 CX30 Premium it's noticeable when the rear truck closes it's feels a little hollow if that the correct term. Small tires for the size of the vehicle, however I understand the hybrid is all about MPG. Also when you put the car in reverse the side mirror does not tilt down as the other two models mentioned which was a very useful feature. If you are not used to a hybrid engine you will hear a hum of the engine when accelerating. I drove a Prius for many years so it was not an issue. This vehicle is not as sporty as the Cx30 or Cx5 so I would recommend this vehicle be driven as a cruiser and brake ahead, I've read some alleged reports of premature front brake and rotor wear or replacement. Stay on top of the oil changes on this vehicle. Overall the build quality is good but the models built in Japan are better IMO. Also, I noticed the Mica Black paint on the cx30 was darker, deep black vs this mica black which appeared to have more of a grey hue to it as I compared them side to side when trading in the CX30. Much remains to be experienced on this vehicle. The leather on the seats is on par with Mazda Quality. I do enjoy the panoramic sunroof. There is a rattling noise in the top passenger side which I will have the Service depart. address. The Bose system is nice 7.4 out of 10. One grip I do have about the software update. I used to plug in my iPhone and was able to use SIRI with the Voice assistant button on the steering wheel. Well that's gone, It's now plagued with the Alexa app or the Native Mazda commands which are slow at best. This is a big deal for us since we utilize Siri Apple care play daily. MAZDA YOU NEED TO DUMP ALEXA AND FIX THIS! Infotainment is large and easy to read. Overall were pleased with the vehicle thus far. There seems to be some give and take as each new iteration is offered. Mazda seems to have taken away some standard features on the hybrid premium which were previously associated with other premium trims so it's best to weigh out what features you will need or want the most. We have gotten a few compliments on the look of the vehicle and blacks seems to mute out the large body cladding well.
