I bought my 1st new and loved the comfort and reliability of my 1st Jeep. At 286,000 miles I hit a big buck on the way to work. I decided to let it go because of the mileage and damage. I couldn't get it out of my mind after over 20 years of ownership so I kinda kept a eye out for another one. I found one just like my old Limited with only 155,00 miles on it and now it's sitting in my driveway. Other than the lousy (EPA) paint job I think it is one of Jeeps best ever vehicles. I now have over 195000 miles on it and it's running fine. Well, an update. My 93 now has over 200,000 miles on it and no major problems. It is outside all the time and the aftermarket paint job, which is one of the reasons I bought it, is holding up beautifully. It has a straight six engine like my 1st 93 and it still runs smoothly.

This is a 318 CI (5.2 L) V8, but they don't have that selection on the drop-down menu. I bought this Jeep used in 1999, and now have more than 288,000 km on it. I'm in the process of selling it after 15 years of great service. The only reason I'm selling is because we no longer need two vehicles -- the Jeep is as good as ever. There has never been any work done on the vehicle except regular oil changes and maintenance, tire and brake-pad changes, etc. It can tow heavy loads in mountainous areas with no problem. It burns a bit more gas than modern vehicles with smaller engines, but it's not too bad, in my opinion. A Jeep like this in decent shape will continue to provide good driving.

We purchased our GC new in 1993 and it has been one the best vehicles we have ever owned. It was retired to snow plow duty in 2011 and is still going strong with over 225,00 miles. the 318 ci (5.2) engine is awesome and is just now using about a half a quart of oil between changes. the only issues we have had are, a failure of the fuel pump (170,00 miles), water pump (150,000 miles) both front cv joint boots(dry rot from age at 195,000). We liked this vehicle so well we bought a new one in 2011.

I loved my Jeep Grand Cherokee up til someone ran into me and totaled out my poor car, they bent the frame. had around 200,000 miles on him and was still running strong for the most part. It was our only car so my husband and I put lots of miles on it driving it back and forth to our jobs and he held up very well. Did have some issues with mysterious electrical problems. Sometimes car wouldn't start unless you jiggled the battery wires (battery was good) and the power windows decided they didn't want to work any more. Also, for some reason the cruise control and overdrive stopped working so I got really bad gas mileage, not it got good mpg to begin with.

I absolutely love my jeep, other than the gas mileage. Unfortunately my jeep was not taken care of by its previous owners. My family has had the car for 7 years now and I've been driving it for the past year. I've put 6k miles on it myself. Everything has been great up until a month ago when everything froze because the coolant system has a leak. This resulted in the end of times. Unfortunately I have to call it quits and get a new car. Radiator is leaking, transmission cooler line is leaking, bad coolant return line o-ring. Essentially the coolant system is shot. If I had the money and time, I would keep it for as long as possible. Overall, if taken care of it will run forever!

I bought mine 3 years ago, and liked it to begin with, I always wanted a red grand Cherokee. Now that I've had it, I don't think I'll be getting another. Atleast not one like mine again! The inline 6 engine is a sorry little fella. If you get stuck behind that rv going up the mountain, good luck getting around him on the straight away! And once again this winter (as per every winter I've had it) it left me frustrated and stranded in the cold once already. Starters, ignition rotors, neutral safety switches, fuel pumps, this thing loves to find a reason to quit running. Also, nasty squeal when air conditioning is on. (common) and when it gets cold- my doors won't shut! (also common)

bought mine new in 93 and now have 235,000 miles on it. In the life of the vehicle I have only replaced the fuel pump, water pump, and transmission lines. not bad at all for a vehicle of this age. Liked it so much I just purchased a 2011 GC Larado. I loved my old 93 so much I couldn't get rid of it. It now does winter plow duty. Still going strong!

Basically, the only repairs beyond the normal wear (battery, tires, brakes) are: REPAIRS Radiator@90K-$235 Rear door gas spring@120K-$35 Rr axle shafts & Bearings@145K-$700 Water Pump@155K-$85 ExhaustHeaders@205K-$1200 (Tuned Headers, cat, Muffler & tailpipe) Air Conditioner@180K-$700 (at a shop) That jeep commercial where they show a mole tunnel of snow that comes to a stop sign, stops, makes a turn and keeps going. Well I laugh everytime I see that commercial because it's just about the truth. I don't think there is anything that will stop a jeep except someone who is out & out using stupidity. Go for it own one, and love the experience.

Bought this car new. In 4 years needed major engine overhaul. 2 years later needed new transmission. Sold it instead of replacing trans. It was in the shop for something all the time and was recalled multiple times. Will never buy another Jeep/Chrysler vehicle. Also, too small inside. Buy a Tahoe instead.

I bought this bad boy used in late 1995 with 38k on it. While it has never left me stranded or failed to start, it ha been a money pit for the last few years with $1500-2000 per year going towards major repairs. I just found out today it needs new brakes (again) and about $800 in engine work. I told the shop to do the brakes and forget the rest. I plan on just keeping the oil changed and some new plugs until the thing wants to run no longer, which may be soon. While it has been a fun car, I would not buy another one due to the poor build quality and repair expense. I would not recommend a used one as a purchase unless you posses mechanical abilities and can do major repairs on your own.

Bought it in 1995, 30K miles, 2 years old. Now has 185,500 miles. Cannot find anything on the market, new or otherwise, with the seat comfort and the visibility out the side and rear windows. Minimal repairs along the way. Gas mileage still 15-16 in town, 20-21 on the road.

Great Car for Mountains, Town, Towing!

The car now has 168,000 miles, and runs great. We take it across country to high mountain areas, fully loaded, and towing with no problems. It is easy to work on. The straight six 4.0 is a great engine. I get 20 mpg highway, less in city driving. The transmission lasted until 150,000 miles. Original engine, regular maintenance only, with replacement of worn out items. If you can replace these yourselves, this is a great car to have. Oil changes at home are very easy. The horsepower of the 6 is of course less than a V8, but is very adequate in 99.9% of situations. Car is great in snow (use chains with the 2WD) This has been the most used car in the household for the last 10 years.

'93 Jeep Grnd.Chrkee. is the only vehicle I owned the longest! It has great steering, it carries anything u load on it =even my mother in law :( = Parts are easy to find and fairly priced, it's ready for long road trips, off road, and inner city driving. The foldable seats help a lot when loading cargo, It has amazing wheel traction! I had 3 accidents and on all three I came out on top- MEANING: The jeep never flipped, minor body damage, all 4 wheels remained on the ground from beginning to end, and the vehicle keeps in control. Its a pretty solid vehicle I recommend it!

I picked this up as a replacement for a '98 GC Laredo that was rolled 1 too many times. I offroad avidly, mountain bike, back country ski/hike, and I need a tank for lack of better words, now I loved my 98, (wish my father wouldnt have rolled it) but this thing takes the cake, you can feel the difference as soon as you pull out of the drive, the quadratrac 4wd gets you out of any mess you get it in, I am running aggressive tires on it, and have yet to have any issues so far, around 149k on the original engine and trans, replaced the drivetrain control unit, I am getting a false signal from my oil pressure unit, but a new $20 unit will fix it. Overall wonderful car I want to keep it forever.

I have owned 2 1993 grand cherokee's. Both had the 5.2 V8. do not get the V8 if it is close to 100,000 miles. both of mine were close to 100,000 when i bought them and both were pieces of junk. They both burned oil. The head gasket on both of them blew. They both lost a ton of power and begun to get horrible gas milage, 8mpg in the city and 12mpg on the highway if i was lucky. Really bad paint jobs too. Both of mine began to have paint chip off of them in nice little sheets. Good looking vehicles, very comfortable to ride in and drive, but get the 4.0 inline 6 engine. It has plenty of power and is an engine that jeep as been using for almost 20 years.

I purchased a used jeep grand cherokee limited 5.2 V8. the V8 puts out a clasic all american rumble while idling. it may be slow from the start but over 40 mph it has serious accelleration. the ride at high speeds might be a little over bearing but that's why thy come with a radio?! right. it may be a luxury car but who says u can't push it. and this car is made for pushing. desipite it being an SUV i have never had any troubles with it tipping or tire problems.

My aunt bought the car new in late '92, then sold it to my grandfather in '99, and he then gave it to me as my first car. The car now has 220K miles on it. I've only had to replace the valve gasket and the brake booster. I don't think I've ever driven a more reliable car. I haven't taken very good care of it, I know the rest of my family abused it, but it still keeps running. I'm now considering selling it to pay for repairs on my Volvo S60. I wished I would have just invested money in fixing up my Jeep instead of buying the Volvo.

I bought my Jeep as a replacement for a totaled '97 Mitsu Montero LS. I bought it with 98k miles and have gone up to 154k. In that time I've replaced oil seals, brakes, and cooling system (myself). Even though I've invested about $2000 in recondition costs, I've no regrets. This Jeep has proven itself many times better than the Mitsu Montero. It is sure footed on ice and snow, takes the desert heat, and sits steady in strong headwinds.I close my eyes when I fill up the tank and don't even bother thinking about MPG's. It's a real 4X4 and that's all that matters.I know it will take me anywhere I want to go.

I bought this jeep with 113K miles on it, and it is solid. Right now it is 17 years old going on 18 and I have never been more satisfied with any suv like this one. It is by far the best suv in the snow (as long as you get the 4x4 of course). Gas mileage is definitely a downfall on this vehicle as I get only about 11-13 mpg in the city and maybe 15 on the hwy. Besides the occasional repairs I done on this vehicle, it is still running on the original, engine, transmission, and even alternator. Jeep nailed it with this grand cherokee, I look forward to purchasing maybe an '05 or '06 in the upcoming months.

Purchased this 1993 in excellent condition with only 115k. Truck was well maintained with all records. Despite all the poor reliabity ratings I found, I believe this truck will be a fun and reliable commuter. Proper maintenance and attention is all this truck requires. It has more personalilty than the explorer or import rivals. It looks great, especially in red, and has a sporting firm ride. For comparison, I also own a 2002 BMW M3 and a Lexus SC400, and I still love driving the Jeep. Repairs when needed are not very expensive.

I have always been a Jeep owner and proud but I bought a 1993 Grand Cherokee Laredo with 64000 miles two years ago and have had nothing but trouble! I have paid more in garage bills than I have in payments for the vehicle itself, everything started off good, just regular maintence here and there and like over night it went from one thing to another and is still running rampant through my wallet, I honestly think because of this vehicle I will never own another Jeep.

I bought this car new in 1993 in California. I drove it all over the southwest. We moved to FL in 1996, driving the Jeep across the US loaded down with bikes, bags, pets, kids, etc. - then we drove it all over the southeast until we moved to Italy in 2000. The car has never left us stranded or really given us any problems at all. It has 135000 miles on it now and we are hesitant to sell it even though we just bought a new VW Passat - we just love this Jeep so much. It is fun to drive, realiable and a very practical car for kids, pets and all terrain and weather.

I purchased this Jeep in '95 with a little over 40,000 miles on it. Since then I have put on a ton of miles with little or no problems. It now has over 287,000 miles on it and it still runs strong. I have had to replace certain items, like a water pump, the front drive axles, and the catalytic converter, but I have had nothing but great experiences with this Jeep. As long as you do the required maintenance, these vehicles will run forever!

It still has good power uses zero oil and gets 20-ish on the highway despite awd and 3 in over sized tires. It does quite well off road. I've yet to meet a hill it wont conquer. Good all round vehicle from the city to the country from the 1st time vehicle to the one that'll last forever

This vehicle overall has performed just above average. The JGC is a high maintenance vehicle, that is I feel to reduce problems I have over the life of the Jeep had the front/rear/transfer case and transmission fluids changed several times. Also, the transfer case viscous couple was replaced (under warranty), fuel pump and filter, major tune up at 96k, replace injector. The Jeep rides well, interior and exterior parts seem to hold up well.

At 150K have had some high maintenance bills but due to neglect of poor upkeep by prev. owners not the product itself. Happy w/ my 5-SPEED ZJ (1 of apprx. 1400)...just ashame there wasn't a demand for more of them!

I bought this vehicle on my 17th birthday. I drove it for a month and the front right brakes siezed. I brought it back to the dealership and 1500 dollars later i had brand new motor mounts, brakes, track bars and new bushings. it had 140,000 miles on it, so that is expected. It drives like new, and the V* is awesome. I beat the crap out of little wannabe civics. The only thing I would change is the gas mileage.

Purchased new and with regular oil changes every 4k and transmission oil changes very 30k, this has been one solid vehicle. Now with 181,000 miles and still running strong. I have maintained everything. Only significant repairs were water pump and radiator at 100k miles., idle air control valve at 110k, fuel pump at 120k, rear axle bearing at 157k and front balljoints at 170k. Has been great in snow. Mileage with the 5.2 V8 has been averaging about 17 mpg. Engine still meets emissions and has pep. Very well-engineered and reliable vehicle. Body still solid, no squeaks or rattles. Would buy another Grand Cherokee in a heartbeat.

I bought this vehicle with 92'000 miles on it and now has 147'000 miles I love this vehicle. People rather have a Grand Cherokee or they want one. . I have just about $25'000 in my Jeep even though I bought it for only $16'000. That means that about $9000 have been spent on repairs, replacement of parts (some more than once).extremely horrible gas mileage, in town or on the highway, burns oil, just fixed a major oil leak. If I were to fix every single thing wrong with this vehicle, I would probably be able to say that I have $40'000 invested in this vehicle which is pretty much the price of a top of the line brand new Grand Cherokee Limited 2003 model year.

I've liked this car enough to keep it for 10 years, despite several design flaws, because it's comfortable, great looking, easy to handle, and the interior is well laid-out. I replaced the computer the second month I had it, and the A/C system twice in the last 4 years. The rear-view mirror has fallen off the windshield 3 times, and it gets a vapor lock at high elevations (over 10,000ft). I was really glad I bought the extended warranty. I'm planning to buy a 2003.

Haven't had a single problem with it yet. Very impressed overall, but the gas mileage is terrible.

I bought this Jeep in 1997 with 60,000 miles on it. 11 years later I am still driving it daily and have 235,000 miles on it. The 5.3 L V8 (318ci) mated to the quadra-drive full time 4WD transfer case has been a great setup. It holds the road great regardless of the weather and the V8 has plenty of power. It is also a highly capable off-road vehicle even without big aftermarket tires or a suspension kit. The most significant repair in that time was a transmission rebuild. Otherwise it has only needed an occasional basic repairs that have not been a surprise given the mileage I have put on it.

Purchased my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (V8 5.2 L) in the summer of '02 with 96,000 miles on it from Valley Dodge in Boulder, CO. 2 weeks after I bought it, it needed some repairs - the starter and a couple of factory recall items as well. Other fixes throughout the years - Power Steering, Idle Motor, A/C Pump, Coolant Sensor, 4x4 Switch, Power Window Switch, Battery (2x), ext Paint, and other minor interior items, but overall the engine has continued to run like a champ at 160K+ miles now - and not even an oil leak! The interior is loaded (...with things that can break...) and power everything, AWESOME for city driving or off-roading - would recommend the Limited model over other models.

This Jeep Runs and Runs. With only minor, aor things that do wear-out having to be replaced, it has performed wonderfully. Now, alas, I need a bigger SUV and Jeep won't fit the bill for me, so I'm moving on. The in-line 6 is the best engine I've ever owned, easy to work on, also.

Great off road capabilities. Pretty comfortable on the road too, forget what all those old editors say. They are just used to their cadillacs, and cant understand why a real truck would be a little harsher over the bumps than a car. Really beats all the wanna- bees from the foreigns and ford. If you dont mind kinda bad gas mileage, its the way to go.

Overall, I'm in love with my JEEP. Bought it to satisfy my-next-car-is-a-4x4-v8-and-jeep. Been all over, in all terrain, and love it.
