Used 2017 Jeep Cherokee Consumer Reviews
Love my Trailhawk - but it breaks down, A LOT!!!
I really like the styling, comfort, and performance of this SUV. The big problem is the ongoing repairs (thank God it is still under warranty), including the current one when the cruise control went wacko on me; which almost caused a really bad accident. On top of this little problem, the dealership has had it for 12 days with no resolution (OR CONTACT FROM THEM, NO RETURN CALLS FROM THEM!!). I guess Chrysler/Jeep doesn't care about their customers letting this problem happen and a dealership like this to operate. Don't buy any of their products, you could lose your life!!! Note: the next section "Vehicle details" did not offer and option for my model - the 3.6L Trailhawk...

Its a looker, but then......
I bought mine NEW at a dealership in 2017. I was wanting this Jeep for years now but waited till the transmission issues from 2015-16 were fixed and not in the newer models. I purchased the basic Sport model with the upgraded V6 engine. Ive also put on 18,000 miles on it so far to write this review. PROS: Its a looker! It looks sleek and nice and the front end is very different, which i like. Its stunning to look at, compact but yet still has enough room for travels and friends. CONS: Its a noise machine. I hear every creak, knock, rattle and ping in this.....and its annoying. Every time i hit a bump in the road, the whole Jeep rattles like the interior isnt made securely and things are just shaking all over. My goodness the rattles are insane in this! People have commented on it saying "is something broken in here? Why is every thing rattling?" The transmission issues are still apparent in the newer models. When i go from reverse to forward, theres a 2-3 second delay like the Jeep is trying to think of what to do while your foots already on the gas trying to get it to go forward. Also to note, this model doesnt like altitude or long journeys/ car trips. Every time i go travel up to the hills/mountains (higher altitudes), the CHECK ENGINE light comes on. But then when i travel back home and go back to normal altitudes...the CHECK ENGINE light turns off. Annoying. Would i buy this again? No. I would test drive a few other Manufacturers first.

Stay Away!
Since purchasing the vehicle in September 2016, it was seen in the service department in October 2016 for a loud click from the brake (told this is normal) and the vehicle shutting off during idle twice. An update was done but the issue continued. November 2016, I brought the vehicle in because the back seat would move back and forth if someone was not sitting in it (they had to replace the whole back seat) but as I was driving into the service doors the vehicle skipped and tried to die with lights flashing on the dash. Service could not duplicate. December 2016 brought in because the vehicle kept skipping when trying to take off from a stop. On two occasions it completely stalled but service was unable to duplicate. The vehicle also had issues with shifting too early at times and then shifting was delayed other times. Once again issue could not be duplicated. Later in December I brought it back again and was told there was a fix. January 2017 the vehicle was brought back again due to stalling and the multiair actuator was replaced. The issue continued as the service manager searched for an answer until I had enough in October 2017 when it came to a stop for no reason and the vehicle would make a terrible noise in reverse at times. Service along with FCA attempted to fix it but could not duplicate the issue. When I received the vehicle back it now skips in idle, makes a lawn mower sound in idle and when shutting off make a whining noise. I have stopped driving the vehicle and am trying to get FCA to do the right thing via Georgia's Lemon Law. I have done my due diligence following FCAs required steps and they said they cannot duplicate my issue but would give me a good faith payment for my time. I have asked to talk to supervisors etc. but am told that is not their protocol. This vehicle is unsafe and should not be allowed on the road! I have video of the issues and one of the service agents commented on it having delayed shifting but FCA closed my case and said it is fixed, regardless of the fact you cannot fix an issue that cannot be duplicated. I sent my Lemon Law paperwork over 1 week ago certified mail and now USPS want to send it back because FCA hasn’t come to pick it up. I will not drive my children around in the vehicle and I will never buy another Chrysler product. I love my dealership but FCA has no business making cars.

Economical SUV
I went on a 600 mile round trip and got 35 miles per gallon! Bluetooth and backup camera are wonderful.

Not even great for short trips
*Not for the reason you might think. I actually owned the 3.2 V6 version, but Edmunds didn't have it listed in their drop-down selection. Had a knuckle changed out when turning the steering wheel made disturbing metal-on-metal noise. They only changed out one (25K miles), and then it happened again (40K miles), so dealer assumed it was the other one. They ended up changing both as the first one was not changed out correctly. When I had my Cherokee Trailhawk in the shop, the dealer gave me a loaner vanilla Cherokee. Night and day difference. The Trailhawk is far better in every respect. I had actually downsized from a 2015 Grand Cherokee Limited V6 due to a drive-thru car wash nightmare, and can say that I probably should have kept the GC and just had it fixed. The KL Cherokee Trailhawk is okay at best. Ride comfort is fair, but build quality isn't worth the window sticker price - buy it when they have sales/offers, and then negotiate even lower. Gas mileage is not good, and the engine auto stop-start is supposed to help with that, but is really just annoying. Worsening the problem is the tiny gas tank. If this thing had a bigger tank (bigger than 13.5 gallons), I would have been a lot happier. As it is, mature driving, I could go just over 300 miles on a tank. I could sometimes go up to 500 miles in the GC without having to stop for gas. Haven't tried towing, but have heard mileage drops to about 10mpg, which is not going to get you up a mountain and back with a mini travel trailer. So, climb some small rocks, hit the trails, but don't plan on being gone all day - or you'll be gone longer than you expected. Ended up trading it in for something completely different. Probably done with Jeep for awhile.
