Used 2003 Jaguar X-Type Sedan Consumer Reviews
Is subdued ok?
IMO the X-type lacks the soul and character that BMW, Audi, and now Acura do well building into their cars. It definitely looks the part, with its Jaguar styling cues and the leaper on the hood. But it doesnt have any of driver dynamics (handling, performance, or quantitative feel) or the solidity (build quality, qualitative feel) that the aforementioned class leaders have. Yes, the X-type rides well, handles competently, and has adequate zip but it doesn't exude that driving excitement to make we want to drive it hard and fast. Maybe that's what Jaguar's after, a subdued experience. If that's what youre looking for the X- type is right up your alley.
Excellent
Outstanding car. Bought two cars at the same time - BMW-xi and Jaguar X-type and like Jaguar more. Design - excellent, fuel economy - 30 ml/gl at 65 ml/h, comfort - excellent. Price - got 6000 discount from MSRP. Reliability - do not know yet.
Its good looking but it has issues... like women
I bought the 2.5 X-Type for my wife in 2008. I was one owner and looked very well taken care of. Tons of dealer receipts and only 45K on the dial. But just like a beautiful wife or girlfriend, it has issues, you just can't have it all. Throughout the years I have had to do the regular maintenance which is not bad I take care of all my cars. Then came the O2 Sensors, Bank 1 Bank 2 then the lower catalytic converter, then the vacuum system, valve cover leaking. At this point we have gotten a lot of use out of it. It has 1600000 miles on it . Now I have a check engine light (flashing) with and an e-brake light on and ABS light on. The car drives fine but won't go over 3K RPM, the forums to fix this suggest a myriad of things that are quite frankly more expensive than what the car is worth. I'll drive it till the it falls apart I guess. I guess it was a reliable car for 10 years of its life 2003 to 2013. Update... it died in the early months of 2020. So many issues. Connected it to the code reader and just pages of error codes. Mind you it was like 8 to 10 codes per page. My wife didn't want to let it go, but honestly it was a liability driving it. RIP Jag.

X-Type 3.0 2003 Review
Very pleased with this car. Purchased in 2006 in near immaculate condition. Ride, look, comfort are wonderful. The used price was amazing (with many extras from the dealership - shopping around and being prepared was very useful).
Ford's version of a Jaguar
Took delivery of my new X-type in December. The motor runs well, the car is quiet. Handling, however, is not good. The car and steering wheel bounce and rumble - perhaps the AWD gears aren't smooth. As a result, the car has very poor feel of the road, since the steering wheel bounces on its own, along with the car freame - worse as the car speeds up. Ride is adequate at low speeds, however. The seat was loose and the tires underinflated and way out of balance as delivered. Handling improved a little when I had the tires balanced, but still not right (see above). Still a Ford, and a great disappointment.
