Long-Time Miata Owner Goes Veloster
As mentioned in the title of my review, I have owned only Mazda Miatas for the last 15 years. There is no other car in the world like it for me, and I would still be driving one if not for the fact that I'm getting older now and I need more room, not to mention that it's gotten increasingly difficult for me to roll into that little car day after day. Long story short, I have always liked the unique look of the Veloster, so after test driving one I was sold. I now own a gorgeous 2016 Citrus Orange Veloster and by and large, I love it! It doesn't feel monstrously large like most cars do after having been in a Miata for so long, and the seats are the most comfortable buckets I've ever sat in. It handles fairly nimbly for a car its size and corners nearly as well as my Miata did. Excellent gas mileage in the 'Eco' mode, mine always runs around 31-34mpg which is WAAAY better than I ever got in the Miata (21-24 tops). The ride is firm but not objectionable to me (again, compared to a Miata which is a SPORTS CAR) and the car feels solid and well-built to me. The amount of tech that came on this car is amazing and fun as hell (backup cam, infotainment center, paddle shifter, etc.) as I'm not used to anything more complicated than an aftermarket stereo in my Miatas. My ONLY nit pick about this car is the transmission. The engine is not the most powerful thing in the world to start with, but the automatic transmission is strange. It seems to not want to engage when I step on the accelerator hard... like someone in a stick-shift revving the car in neutral... it just doesn't move sometimes! I have two very close friends who also purchased new Hyundai automobiles at the same time as I did (a Tuscon and another Veloster) and they report the same sort of hesitation in their transmissions that I am experiencing. That leads me to believe that the problem is not unique to my car or model, but may be a bug in the overall design of Hyundai automatic transmissions. It makes me have to be more aware when turning into traffic from a dead stop, which is probably a good thing. Overall, I'm loving the car still at 7k miles!

Rally Edition value for money
Performance for the money is great. There are other cars in the segment that cost about the same with similar performance (and maybe a little better performance). That said, you have to like the way the car looks. The other comparable cars I didn't like the looks. If you're a fan of the Veloster's looks you will not be disappointed if you're purchasing a turbo. If you just like the way the car looks and buy the normally aspirated model and are looking for economy, not a bad car. What you get is pretty good if you're just driving on the street and not the track (turbo model). Lots of power to get you in trouble on the street if you're not careful. This is a fast car. The rally model comes with JDM wheels that would cost over two grand to add to any other car, but are included on that model. Handling is stiff on the rally. If you're looking for a very comfortable car, buy the normal model or a different car. These cars are set up for a sporty ride and can be harsh over bumps. Handling around really tight corners is not great. It's not bad, but this car shines more on the longer, faster corners. On the freeway it's excellent. Freeway passing power is up to the job even if the speed limit is 85 MPH. The manual transmission is very slick with the B&M short shifter. It's really good but takes a little getting used to. If you're new to manual transmissions it can be difficult to start out in first gear until you do it a few times. I've killed the engine a couple of times and I have a lot of manual trans experience. With the modern twin scroll turbo it has lots of low end power. Punch it at any RPM and it goes. The interior is pretty nice for a car on the cheaper end. Leather seats, infotainment, steering wheel mounted stereo controls, back up camera, 450 watt sound system with subwoofer. The stereo will blast your eardrums out if you want it to. The third door is great for grocery getting and lots of space in the hatchback if you lower the back seat. I come from a background of mostly JDM cars. This is my first Korean car and I'm impressed. The fit and finish is not as good as on some JDM cars but it is a minor annoyance. You're also not getting the power for price from those vehicles. One word of warning: Matte paint. If you buy the matte painted version of this car you will get non stop attention from other car enthusiasts. You will also get a non stop headache. You can't take it through a normal car wash. It has to be hand washed. Hyundai does include a nice kit to wash and protect it with, but it's not like owning a normal car. If you really, really, really like matte paint then buy it but know that it's going to be some work to take care of. They even make you sign an agreement! The rally is the ultimate edition and only 1200 were made. If that's your thing it is definitely worth the price. In fact, I think it's worth more than what I paid.

Great 2016 Pocket Rocket!
Looks like nothing else on the road - and that makes this car even better! In the Turbo with full tech package, the interior is super sporty and very comfortable. Having Apple CarPlay and a panoramic roof make this car more fun then it gets credit. 201hp in the Turbo keeps great pace with more expensive cars and makes you want to always drive faster...even when you know you shouldn't ha! Coming out of first gear with the automatic takes a second (but that can be solved by the auto shifter or hand paddles if want the sportier feel) but the power is all mid range and it doesn't disappoint. Loaded it's almost $30k, but there are a lot of rebates. I previously had an Eclipse V6 loaded and the Veloster Turbo is just way more fun to drive! This car really knows how to hug the road. [UPDATE 9/14/2018: I've been driving my Veloster for over a year now and still love it as much as the day I first purchased it. The new Veloster is now hitting the market and feel like some of the design changes have taken away some of the reasons I liked the original - almost blends in too much with everything else on the road now. Glad I purchased mine when I did.] [UPDATE 3/17/2019: While the new Veloster offers some new great features not available at the time of my purchase of the previous design, hands down in my opinion the 2016 I currently own is just visually better looking. I have not doubt the new Veloster is a fun driving car, but so far this car has been issue free, fun to drive, looks great and has many many more miles and years to go. Great purchase and still earns 5 stars from this buyer - and has GREAT gas mileage.]

Pretty Sweet Little Hatch
My 2016 Veloster with the navigation and appearance packages now has over 50,000 miles on it, and, I still LOVE it . I put a Thule rack on it and carry a 17 Carbon fiber canoe on it .It has been to and through almost every New England state , I have had very little problems with it . I think it is a cool little car with a unique look. It won't win any drag races , but, that is not what it was designed for , it is a cool, reliable , smile making little machine !!!

FANTASTIC car!!
I was shopping for another Mazda. I had a Mazda Protege' for 15 years and she was a wonderful car! The orange Veloster caught my eye! I have had so so many complements on it. Driving it is so fun and it has a lot of get up and go! I had a hard time letting my Mazda go but it took a special car like the Veloster to finally get a new one. I have not driven it in the snow so I do not know how it handles. I do not know much about cars but I would not trade my Veloster for the world!! One year later, I still love my car just like the first day I bought it!!!

A great car at a great price.
I looked at a lot of cars on the internet and read many reviews. The car I selected was the Hyundai Voloster, the price and the quality of the car is the reason. Got a great deal on 2016 close out, a vitamin c color turbo. The car sounds great on start up, I like a little noise from the pipes. The engine is smooth, the transmission takes some getting use to. The salesman said to help with the turbo. Took a trip at about 400 miles and was getting 39.6 mpg on highway. I really like the car, it does have some blind spots. But mirror adjustment solved that. I now have over 5000 miles on my car, still love it. Great gas mileage and a fun to drive. Have taken a few trips with car always great gas mileage and puts a smile on my face.

Fine Korean Autobahn Cruiser !!!
First off, the base engine is lacking power, I don't know why they don't have the 2.0 l engine from the Elantra GT available for this car . If you are tall, not the vehicle for you . Interior parts are cheap looking . Side vision is not great, make sure you really look before lane changing . The backup camera is a great feature . I have the 6 speed manual transmission, this has to be the smoothest shifting manual I have ever had and I have only had vehicles with manual transmissions . Steering and braking performance is good . Fuel consumption is great, this car usually only sees city driving, averages 33 in city driving conditions, the few times it has been on expressway, I've only gone 10-15 miles, so no idea what to expect on a long distance trip . The vehicle I had before the Veloster, was a '91 Honda CRX Si, 24 years of ownership, I would say it's pretty comparable to the Veloster . This is a great car for general use, if you have children, or need to carry adults in the rear seat, not the vehicle for you . I'm single and this car provides basic dependable transportation at a low cost, which is what I was looking for . If you are buying this car to make a sports car out of it, buy the turbo instead, it will cost less in the long run . I got 3 free oil changes with the purchase of the vehicle, every time I had the car in for service, they made major errors, letting air out of the tires, it was 117 F and the road temps were 175 F, when I checked the tire pressures the next week they were 9 psi below where I keep them . On rotating the tires, when I checked the torque of the lug nuts, one wheel had the nuts so tight, I needed a long pipe on the breaker bar to break it loose, one wheel was torqued correctly, 2 wheels were about one fourth the torque they should have been . One oil change, the oil level was too high, 2 quarts overfilled . The next oil change, the oil drain plug was left loose and I came close to losing all the oil in the engine . This dealer will never touch this car ever again . Asked to update my review, I've had the vehicle just short of 7 years, 18,000 miles, no issues with it, put fuel in it, check tire pressures, oil level, coolant level every two weeks, that's all the care it needs for now . I'm sure tires will require replacement in the next 2 years or so, this incessant desert heat is going to ruin them long before I wear them out . August, 2022, windshield washer fluid reservoir developed a leak, empty now, it's 109 F now, so I'll defer this until the weather is cooler .Looks like the right front inner fender well and tire need to be removed to access this .

Diamond in the world
Brought this jewel home with 6 miles on the odometer! And can tell you its a true elite white diamond turbo so far!! Have almost 3500 miles on it already in 3 months already 2 road trips ! I to Sedona Arizona and its fast, quick, sporty enough handling, comfortable and does get a few looks!! Yes some nits are the transmission seems slow to respond probably my biggest gripe but its good on gas.the interior plastics on doors scratch easily. And visibility can be a hidden problem!! But hay for the money 24000 with rebates and fully loaded with the panoramic moonroof!!! I can hang with this diamond!!! Till next review enjoy!!! Im sold so far on the veloster turbo!!!

my kind of car
This car is a drivers car. It has a good weight to horse power ratio. It handles superbly. It is not over powered and it gets decent gas mileage. It is 4 passenger vehicle when needed. More suited for 2 passengers with plenty of cargo space for 2. I have taken one of these on a 400 + mile trip. It is very comfortable and road worthy on all highway conditions, the wind does not blow it around like other small cars I have driven. The Huyndai is noted for its reliability and I am planning on having this auto for many years. I still am enjoying my 2016 Turbo Veloster. I have been driving it this year in the winter snow and ice . It does a pretty good job as long as the snow is not to deep. I took a 1000 mile trip this fall it was comfortable and I averaged a little over 31 MPH. I have had no problems at all with this car. I am still enjoying my 2016 Turbo Veloster. I have taken a couple 800 plus mile trips. It is a great road trip car, Best with 2 on trips. Have taken 2 passengers before it was good. I take to its scheduled maintenance. It has no problems. The tires only lasted about 28000 miles. I had a 2012 Veloster and its original tires lasted about the same.

I looking for another one
The car is one of the safest cars in it's class. I got a great price from Bowie Hyundai. Unfortunately about a 1 1/2 months after I purchased the loaded Turbo model I was broad sided on the driver side. and I was knocked over the curve. All of the airbags were activated at just the right amount of pressure as to protect but not injure me with the force. The car was totaled. Both rear wheels were knocked off and the driver side door was caved in. However, I did not get a scratch on me. I was just shaken up some. The claim adjuster gave me a few dollars more than the out the door price that i paid. The car did its job. As soon as The crash occurred I was contacted via the Hyundai system telling me that I had been in a crash and that they were sending assistance. What a great experience under such a horrible circumstance. I am in the market for another one exactly as the one that was totaled

Great, fun car, for a low price
One of the more fun vehicles that I have driven, but not the best. However, you do get the bang for your buck! The options you get for $20K are phenomenal and you will not find that with any other vehicle in this class. The best part about this car? Modifications, this car adjusts to mods very well; I have about $2K in aftermarket parts on this car and have had ZERO issues. The one complaint I would have regarding performance is the DCT transmission, it is not the best but, I have heard that it is an issue with other Hyundai models. The interior and exterior are very nice, minus the cheap plastic that Hyundai is known for, I have yet to have any issues after 6 months of owning the vehicle. I get a lot of compliments on both the exterior and interior. The basic tech package is really good too, it's something that you would have to pay extra when purchasing other vehicles. I did forget one thing, the tires that come on this vehicle from the dealer SUCK! I am not a fan of the Kuhmo tires at all, they are absolutely terrible in rain and other road conditions. If you have the extra money, buy new tires before you hydroplane.

Absolute blast to drive.
For the driving enthusiast looking for great feedback from the road. Agile on the twisty roads, and acceleration that is fun, right up to the edge of intimidating. Fuel mileage was a surprise at 25 to 30mpg when pushing it, and 30 to 35mpg when taking it easy. Surprisingly good amount of usable storage space, and with the third door; easily accessible. Great audio system with integrated electronics plenty of connectivity options and remote access features similar to OnStar. I have thoroughly enjoyed owning and driving this car and will consider a similar model for my next purchase as well!

The car is fun
The turbo Veloster is my main car now, but I also have a 2016 Camaro 2.0T that I used to drive, that now my other half drives since their car was totaled. I gave option to get another or take the Camaro and I would get another care. Well I got another car. I wanted something with fairly low payment since we would have two cars with payment again. The best deal out there was the Veloster Turbo, the only other car for the price I would have considered if it had been out at the time would have been the Elantra Sport. Anyway, the Veloster is much much easier to drive everyday than the Camaro is. Dont get me wrong, the Camaro will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, but the Veloster has more usable fun. I tell you that I have had a 2013 Civic SI and a 2013 Infiiniti G37 coupe only to say that they also were not as much fun to drive as the Veloster turbo. I also love having the utility of the hatchback. It handles great, accelerates nicely, has great utility and the engine sounds very sporty. Changes I would make-Well I would like it to be a 5 dr HB instead of a 4 door HB with the one door on the drivers side. I would like it to have two doors on both sides. Also it could use better tires. For the price (I paid $20k) Im ashamed to even say those complaints.

My First Turbo.....and Moved on...
I drove Mustang EcoBoost, Camaro V6, Honda Accord Coupe with CVT Paddle shifting what a joke.... and some other cars, I was looking for some Fun, Excitement, Fast, Quick, has tons of Mods available. Then I drove Veloster Turbo 2014, last customer Modified it with BOV & Intake and what a sound and quickness that had. Made me think about it. Then I did the research to see what is good for me and best bang for the buck, And Veloster had everything what i want it and more... What I paid for 2016 Veloster Ultra Black with 7k on it None of the above car come close, and none had the features what Veloster has. Its fast I mean it fast I made my friends scream, Its small and fun to Drive. So far I'm Loving it. Best of all love one part as long you don't mess around with Engine or Transmission Hyundai will cover it for 10 years... 100k... Seriously. Neat little car I love driving it and Gas mileage is good too, I was spending over 40 a week and now under 20 a week, It use to took me 30 to 40min to work, now it take me 15 to 20min to work with Fun.......I love it... I'll keep it... I'll drive it...I'll enjoy it.... Well its been over a year ago I Trade it with Lexus ES350 F Sport. Why because I grownup, it was becoming slow car need it faster more power then just Turbo. and Lexus gave me that. However its been a year I have Lexus and I want V8 or v6 with Turbo. It was a good car However bought it I am sure will be happy with it.

Not a 19'
There is a newly revised 2019 model out now,but after viewing the base,Premium,Turbo, and R Spec interiors I was extremely disappointed. The quality of materials on the doors and the odd new center console sides are cheap plastics. The seats seem to be lifted from the Kia Soul, which most stand up comedians call DAD SEATS,or Lazyboy's...due to being wide. The ALL LEATHER my 2016 has with forming side bolsters are gone, and I HAVE NO IDEA WHY.The dash has a STANDUP radio that stays upright, which is very annoying and distracting.*The most distracting thing is the two OPPOSING body lines, the front arching and coming back CRAZY IVAN style. The rear dips down suddenly like an approaching overpass is too low.**Altogether the new 2019 doesn't even come close to my 2016 turbo with a fun six speed manual and quick thrust.I did not drive the 19',but the cheap interior and goofy sight lines ruin this car. My Veloster is unique looking, has a great interior, and is pretty quick for the price,If you buy a leftover 2017 with an auto and paddle shifters, they are almost gone but only $20k.

Fun to drive but not very practical
I am the first owner of a 2016 Hyundai Veloster, purchased in October 2016. I loved it at first and thought I’d keep it even after I got another car down the road, because of its sporty drive and fuel economy. Within the first year, I had popped 2 tires (on regular drive, nothing particularly rough or pothole filled). By now (3yrs 3mos of owning) i have replaced SIX tires due to POPPING them (not low tread or any other usual reason), because the “stylish low profile tires” have no tire and too much rim. The tires cost at the very least $100 for the 225/40R18, and are too rare to be found used at local salvage shops. I’ve been told I need new shocks and struts, which I shouldn’t need for another 2 years in an average car. My drivers side headlight went out about 3 years in, and not due to a burned out bulb. I’ve been told an average of $100 just to diagnose the issue causing the headlight to not work. About a month after, my passenger headlight lightbulb went out and needed replacing. It still drives comfortably, despite having decently high mileage for its age (~60,000miles), and if the repairs it needed weren’t so expensive, I might recommend the car to others. Maybe i still would to those who don’t drive very much. It’s fun to drive and comfortable on long journeys for those who don’t need the backseat for passengers (I take it on a 12 hour drive home once a year). It stores a surprising amount in the hatchback when the back seats are laid down. I’m trading it in after only 3 years because of its expensive-to-fix mechanical issues. I wish the tires and suspension were made more reliably so I didn’t have to switch cars. In general it honestly just feels like it must’ve been made cheaply on Hyundai’s part.
The Hyundai to avoid if you want a car
The engine has a problem with surging and hesitation. When you need to accelerate or merge on to the freeway, the Veloster will take off about one-third of the time. The rest of the time you press the accelerator, the Veloster will slowly speed up at best. Hyundai tells me the hesitation and surging are normal, and cannot fix the issue. The interior started to have problems after 2 months of ownership. Carpet coming up, floor mats falling apart, leather peeling off steering wheel and shifter, and a few loose plastic roof parts. After 3 weeks I had so many problems with the car I asked if I could return it. The Veloster and Hyundai have been horrible from the day I purchased it.

Life is in the details
First of all, I drive a 2016 Veloster turbo 6 speed manual. It is an absolute blast to push a little harder than it should be. If you trimmed some more of the weight, you might get another second out of it, but it's still a quick, inexpensive, fun little car. What really sells the Veloster turbo aside from the obvious 200 horsepower, is the fact that the interior is so much better then most of its rivals. The dashboard, doors, and the forward console are all designed with attention to detail and perfectly blended materials. Not only are the seats recaro inspired, fit extremely well with side bolstering, but are also leather. All of these elements are removed from the new Veloster, and definitely pale in comparison. It's hilarious how many articles I read before the new Veloster came out, bestowing enormous praise upon the interior, which I now realize came from people who had never set foot in a Veloster before. The new model is absolutely horrible with cheap plastic everywhere and crappy cloth seats that are too wide, and within the first couple thousand miles, show huge raised wrinkles on the sides from entry and exit. What's even more hilarious to me, is once I actually went to go look at the Veloster N, which you would think was the second coming of Jesus from every article published pre-release,it was an enormous disappointment in the interior. You can't even get leather, and you would think it would have dawned on someone in the design studio, to put soft touch materials in a car they're trying to get $30,000 for. The truth is, with only 250 horsepower, you can buy a 4 cylinder turbo Camaro with 275 horsepower, an automatic with paddle shifters, and remote start for cold weather... For $20,000 with rebates right now.As a matter of fact,a 335 hp V6 is less money with rebates at about $22k. I'm a huge proponent of the Hyundai product, especially considering the warranty they share with Kia at second-best in the entire Auto industry, only behind the 72 thousand mile warranty Volkswagen provides. But when Hyundai decides to pull its collective head out of its ass,and redesign the Veloster turbo and the Veloster N as they should... It had better be with a much, much, much, nicer interior with better seats, and quality materials and craftsmanship. Just in case you didn't know this, you can go online on autotrader.com and buy a Veloster N for 22 or 23 thousand dollars when 6 months ago they were 28 29 and 30 thousand dollars. Which if you're smart, is a perfect illustration that they aren't selling anywhere near as well as they thought they were going to.

2016 Veloster R Spec 10 month review
The car was initially delivered with a battery with a dead cell. After 2 jump starts, covered by warranty, the battery was replaced by the dealer at no charge- pardon the pun. Since then the car has been totally reliable. The ride is a little harsh, but definitely livable. Whether it's due strictly to the suspension or the low profile tires, I'm not sure. The weighting of the steering is heavier than most cars and feels just right. By far and away the best feature of the car is the 6 speed manual transmission featuring the B&M sport shifter. Throws are short crisp positive and an absolute joy to use. The turbo roll on power is very satisfying. So far, my singular complaint is the lack of a spare tire--the car only comes with a flat fixing kit. As such, I'm looking at purchasing either self sealing or run flat tires. Fuel economy has been disappointing, averaging 25 mpg with non aggressive driving. Last October 2016, when I purchased mine, and for about four months following, Hyundai was offering a $4,000 discount on Velosters. In addition, I found a dealer offering an additional $2,550 discount, bringing the total discount to $6,550 on a car with a $22,540 MSRP. If you can equal this, you'll have an absolutely incredible bargain for a 201 horsepower turbo powered sporty car which, while not perfect, still a lot of fun. Update on 8/31/19 w/ 12,500 miles on the odometer: car is still totally reliable and fun to drive. Surprising that mpg is inching up, albeit very incrementally (26.5 mpg). Still looking for self sealing tires as run flats will make the ride even harsher. Seems no one makes them in a size that fits the turbo Veloster. Rodents chewed a hole in the windshield wiper supply line hose. The repair, not actual replacement of the hose, cost $140 at the dealer, which seems excessive. Been servicing the car every 6 months to maintain the warranty. That's about every 2,500 miles at the rate I drive the car. Servicing consists of an oil change. Nowadays that frequency seems ridiculous with the advancements in todays motor oil formulations. The service department recently said sustaining the warranty requires servicing every 4 months. I don't know what the story is on sustaining the warranty. I believe the dealer is screwing its customers, or at least trying to do so. The 2019 redesign, although more attractive visually, lacks the large rear roof window of my 2016, which I believe unnecessarily darkens the interior of the car. The big plus with the redesign is a totally independent rear suspension vs the torsion bar axle in my 2016. Not sure how much this impedes cargo capacity. Still happy with the car and not motivated enough to trade it for the new redesigned version.

Beautiful car, but beware engine failure!
When I bought this car I imagined if I ever had any major issues with it, it would be with the DCT. Boy was I wrong! Its a wonderful car! Every inch of the interior was thoroughly planned and well thought out. It comfortably sits 4 adults (as long as the 2 in the back are below 6' tall) the seats are comfortable, the 3rd door makes backseat access a breeze and surprisingly kids/car seats fit comfortably in the back. The rear trunk space is roomy and ive used my little engine that could to transport mid sized equipment for my job with no issues! From the interior options to the comfort to the responsive sporty drive this car was a dream! Until the engine failed. I luckily caught it before the warranty ran out, but not everyone ive talked to has been so lucky. These engines rarely get to 120k miles before needing total replacement, though I do have to give hyundai credit, some cases ive seen the cars seem to just keep going no matter how bad the damage is. Ive seen velosters driving hundreds of miles on broken rods and other major issues. It took hyundai almost 2 months to approve and replace the engine in mine. The transmission has never given me a single issue through all this! I loved my veloster, bought it almost brand new! If I had known this is an issue id be fighting with for the life of the car, I dont think I would have bought it. Its a darn shame really, it would be an amazing car if it was reliable in any way whatsoever, which its not.

Do your research before buying any Veloster
There are still significant issues with the (to be fair most regardless of manufacturer) GDI engine. Jerky acceleration appears somewhat randomly, and city driving in this car is a burden. Handling is not very good. The entertainment system interface in the car is not very well thought out and the display screen is overly bright at night, creating a distraction. After a full month and 1700 miles, I am realizing how cheaply this car is made. After owning Hondas (92 civic, 83 accord--over 200k miles) and an 04 Toyota Celica (190k miles) I can say that Hyundai, at least with the Veloster, is not in the same league yet. UPDATE: Now at 17000 miles, my opinion of the Veloster and of Hyundai has not changed. Worst service department blunder so far: A mouse caused some damage to the windshield washer fluid line and sparkplug wires. After almost a week of having it (waiting on a part for the washer line), the car was returned with a report that all work had been completed and things like "Extra wire protection" had been added. The report said "The entire vehicle is operating as intended". Cost: $918 The truth was they did not repair the line, the part arrived (I was notified by the service department's auto-notify) the next day after getting my vehicle. I notified the service manager who asked if they could have my car for another day to see what the issue was. I declined and said it could wait until my next oil change. Inspecting the wire repair I found they had merely twisted the wires back together and taped them up with a lot of electrical tape. I guess that was the extra protection. The entire repair job was no where near worth the money I paid and the time I waited. There is no way I would recommend this vehicle or any that Hyundai manufactures. UPDATE: Now at 25000 miles, and I've been told my required maintenance includes a valve cleaning. The satisfaction of ownership continues to decline. The rear hatch button is broken. One of the rear wheels is beginning to make a roaring noise that is increasing in volume (not the tire as it remains in the back regardless of tire rotation. The radio has reset itself twice (date to the default) and has refused to turn on a couple of times. At this point I am just trying to keep the mileage low as possible so I can trade it in as soon as it is paid off. Worse car I have ever owned and it is still fairly new.

Fun, zippy, reliable ( ! ) crazed puppy of a car!
The good: •Gas mileage. I average about 30mpg with a heavy foot. •The roominess is surprising Four real adults fit fine, headroom in the back isn’t great for anyone over about 5’-9” but for short trips it’s fine. Cargo room is very good for its class of car. •Performance and handling are above average for the class. It’s a very taut, responsive car and reminds me of a crazy puppy dog. It outhandled the 2017 Mini Cooper S and 2017 Honda Civic Si that I cross shopped with. It’s not a FAST car, but it IS a quick point and squirt kinda car. It’s addictive between 3000-6000 RPM. The not so good: •The ride is harsher than I think it needs to be. The low-profile 40 series tires are a big contributor of this, maybe a change to a little taller sidewall would help the ride quality but I'd lose a little in the handling department. It's all a tradeoff. •The DCT transmission I have is definitely NOT a sporty transmission. I wish they would’ve offered a better sport mode with crisper up/down shifts, rev matching, etc. It’s not a bad transmission, but it could be much better. • I wish it had LED lights all around. The DRL’s are LED but all other bulbs are old fashioned halogen yellow ones. A lighting upgrade is desperately needed. •The toys on mine are not as nice as the '17 Elantra I'm replacing. My Veloster does not have Car Play or some of the little info screens that my Elantra did. It's tough going to a car with less tech than the one you're replacing, but I'll get over it. Overall, I really do love this car a lot. It’s only second to my ‘97 NA Miata (rip) in fun factor, and beats the 2017 Elantra that it’s replacing with ease in almost every category but toys & comfort. The car is, now, stock. I plan to install an oil catch can very soon however, as gasoline direct injection engines benefit greatly with them installed. Anyone who is looking for a fun, efficient and reliable little car can’t go wrong with a Veloster. Just don’t get the normally aspirated version, only get a turbo or you’ll be really sorry!

Blah, Sluggish, Jerky
You have to floor the pedal just to move forward. My knee hurts just after 12-minute drive from the heavy pushing I have to do with my foot. Clumsy car. Very poor visibility to back sides or back, narrow windows. I end up looking out half through the sloping skylight. Primitive door-locking system. Only good thing I can say is it brakes very well. I would never buy such a car and can't wait to drop this car off at the rental agency. The car looks cool, but if you have driven anything decent in the past, you will find this car unacceptable. If you are young and have no experience with a smoother, better car, then you might not know the difference. I am shocked that a car this disappointing is even on the market.

Diamond in the world part2
Already close to 11000 on odometer in this white jewel! Yes i complained on transmission last time 7 speed DCT and they had recall on it ! And went in shop 2 hrs later updates on trans and wow!!! Its awesome!! Shifts are quick and non hesitant! ! Car is great folks roomy enough! Still great handling! Need better steering feel but not a deal breaker! Snow in utah was bad this year and it handled it just fine! Fuel economy is better than n average! With my lead foot! But still interior bits alil cheap to scratch easily😞 but overall a great buy and choice so far!!

Love my car-hate transmission & Hyundai "service"
I have a 2016 Veloster Turbo with the 7 speed DCT transmission. I absolutely love my car and when the transmission isn't acting up she is so much fun to drive. However, daily my car will not go.... no really it wont go. The RPMs will go up but the car does not accelerate. I have contacted Hyundai about this numerous times and I am currently waiting to hear back from them now. In gears 1-3 the car jumps and acts as if I am driving a manual in the wrong gear. The car has stalled out on me and I have come close to a few accidents due to the transmission issues. My fiance also has a VT but a different year and loves everything about his but he has a 6 speed DCT

Better than 2019
Points to consider above all else.Only get the turbo for power and resale value. The 6 speed manual is quicker and more fun.Do not get the sunroof as it makes it a high theft target.Leather seats are amazingly well fitted and interior is better quality by far, than the 2019.The radio is not an obtrusive STAND UP like the 2019.And lastly...from a design viewpoint. The 2019 has two opposing curving body lines front and rear, which detract from the side view and serve no purpose. The more sinuous, cleaner and fluid lines of the 2016 are a better design. The only negative sheetmetal on the 2016 is the odd indentation downward from the headlight. The 2019 has too many odd shapes and unnecessary lines.

I love this car!!
While I only had the 4 cylinder base model, this car was an absolute blast to drive. U had a manual and this car hugged a car, hung low to the ground... and turned heads. A tree fell on her and crushed the sunroof and top, and part of the passenger side door. Our insurance totaled her out. She will definitely be missed.
It's as fast as I need.
I love this car. It has a peppy turbo that sucks you into the back of your seat. I love the heated leather seat. It's helpful in a snowy climate. It's a fun, and it's fast as I need.
