2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SE Ultimate 4dr SUV AWD (3.3L 6cyl 6A)
Just buying this vehicle, haven't actually had enough time and miles to know about things like reliability, maintenance, resale value, and performance. I have done extended research on all of it's competitors, and one thing I find among my most important attributes is it's ability to handle slick wet or icy slick roads, including how well it handles getting up and down inclines. Seems … the Subaru Forester beats everyone in this category. I am not satisfied with Subaru's track record on their head gasket issues though. although it seems it becomes an issue showing up as early as 80k miles but most commonly at 115k miles. Their fix seems to be adding their "stop leak to fix this issue". Since I plan on keeping this vehicle an extended period of time the Hyundai Santa Fe became my choice although Edmond's and Kelly BB rated others higher in their tests. They were comparing things that were not as important to me personally as the items that I was looking for in my new vehicle. I hope it lives up to my expectations since I've long been a Ford customer with a 15 year old F150 in excellent shape and 160k miles on it. I've owned many Fords, mostly trucks, and never been disappointed. Problem is they have gotten too proud of their vehicles and are pricing them out of the market for me. I also dealt with the same dealer for 30 years and when the owner retired another major dealership bought him out and all the people I've known for decades pretty much left. I had tires for life on my current truck and when the new owners took over they didn't want to honor the agreement any more. So, no loyalty to me.... i didn't feel any more loyalty to them. I went looking elsewhere for my new vehicle. I believe I will be pleased with the Santa Fe.

2018 Hyundai Santa Fe SE Ultimate 4dr SUV AWD (3.3L 6cyl 6A)
DO NOT BUY!!!! My 2018 Santa Fe 3.3L engine went out a 70k. Kept up with all scheduled maintenance. Currently waiting in line for engine replacement, was told 6 months because there are so many engine replacements in front of me. Paying half for rental. Do your research, go to Hyundai/Kia engine failure group in Facebook. Class action lawsuit in progress.

Which Santa Fe does Edmunds recommend?
With only three trim levels and one option, picking the right Santa Fe isn't too difficult. We think the sweet spot is the SE Ultimate, which comes with the comfort and safety features you'll want along with a larger entertainment and navigation system and a surround-sound audio system. Unfortunately, advanced safety features, such as forward collision mitigation, are only available in the optional Tech package. You'll have to pay more to get them.

Driving
Solid, predictable handling and precise steering make for a competent commuter. The suspension also delivers the comfortable ride quality you'd expect from a car-based crossover. The standard 3.3-liter V6 provides good acceleration without fuss.
Comfort
We like the front seats for their comfort and adjustability, and both front and second rows feel roomy. The third row is fine for kids, but don't expects adults to last long back there. The lack of intrusive wind and road noise adds to a relaxed driving demeanor.
Interior
The smart interior arrangement makes it easy to use. We like the simple physical controls and an attractive design. The reclining second-row seats also slide forward and back, giving them a fair amount of head- and legroom.
Utility
Stowing both rows of back seats reveals 80 cubic feet of cargo space, and there's 41 cubic feet with the second row upright. That's less than in some competitors, but still plenty of space. A hands-free liftgate is available.
Technology
Hyundai's infotainment system is easy to use and supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on all Santa Fes, so pairing and using your phone aren't a hassle. The available 360-degree camera system makes parking easy and safe.
