2018 Hyundai Elantra GT 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6A)
Ok, so I needed a new car as my long term Volvo V70 wagon was approaching 300,000 miles. I considered several new cars and after driving several competitors, I decided on the Hyundai Elantra GT Base Automatic and boy am I happy I did!! First, the quality of materials and workmanship is a class above this price point. The doors close with a "thunk" and I've had zero squeaks and rattles. … Secondly, the style of the exterior and interior is very attractive. Has a very upright, Germanic, business attitude about it and it holds a TON of stuff! You could sleep in back with the seats folded. Third, the car drives fantastic! Handles great and the sport mode really changes the attitude and performance of the car, turning it into a GTi light. Fourth, the fuel economy is excellent. I have about 3,500 miles and have averaged 28 MPG, driving very briskly. Fifth, comfort and infotainment are first class at this price. The seats are terrific! They hold you tight, yet are very comfortable. The infotainment has a fantastic 8" touchscreen that turns google maps into an 8' high def NAV, nice. Also has HD radio, bluetooth, and Android Auto/Apple Carplay. The base sound system is really good. Overall this car is a great deal and I love to drive it. I highly recommend.
Feels more expensive than it was

2018 Hyundai Elantra GT 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6A)
My wife wanted to replace her Kia Soul with something sportier but still practical. We considered the Civic Hatchback and Mazda 3, but we found a 2018 Elantra GT base (2.0 w/ 6A) with the heated seats/tech package for the end-of-year bargain price of $17.5k after rebates. This was $5-6k less than any similarly equipped Civic or Mazda 3. I also drove an Elantra GT Sport (1.6T w/ 7DCT); it … was quicker, but not remarkably so. Shortly after purchasing we road tripped from Oregon to Nevada for Thanksgiving, with many twisty mountain backroads through the Cascades and Sierras. Handling was excellent, and power was just fine for mountain driving and passing. Most professional reviewers prefer the 1.6T in the N-line, but the 2.0L's 160HP is satisfying for an economy car. The cabin feels expensive, and the heated seats+dual zone climate control are well worth the extra cost on a snowy winter day. Ergos are outstanding for taller drivers (I'm 6'3"), although back seat space is cramped. We're seeing highway fuel economy a little above EPA ratings: 34-36mpg. Styling inside and out is handsome. I can't believe we got such a nice car for this price.
Maintenance: I still do my own. Maintenance access is pretty good like on most modern Hyundais and Kias, and the first two oil changes were easy. The under-engine cover has a nice cutout for oil filter access. We've had zero reliability issues, a year and four months later the car still looks and runs like new.

2018 Hyundai Elantra GT 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6A)
I know everyone says the 1.6 t is the one to have and yes i agree but i got my on a budget .The 2.0 base is more than adequate and quite zippie than you would expect, the secret run it on premium fuel the response is much better than you would think
Edmunds Summary Review of the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT Base Hatchback
Pros & Cons
- Pro:Cabin is stylish and comes packed with features
- Pro:Sport model is enjoyable to drive
- Pro:Offers plenty of cargo space
- Con:Base model's lackluster fuel economy
Which Elantra GT does Edmunds recommend?
Though it costs considerably more than the base trim level, the Sport is the one to get. Its sharper and more composed handling (courtesy of a more sophisticated rear suspension design) and stronger engine make it more fun to drive. It also comes standard with features that you'll probably want but are optional on the base version. Still not sold? With the automatic transmission, the Sport gets better fuel economy than the base GT.

Driving
7.5Its steering, brakes and suspension make it easy and fun to drive. The base 2.0-liter engine's power is livable, and the transmission does nothing offensive, but we would undoubtedly prefer the turbo 1.6-liter in the GT Sport.
Comfort
8.0A quiet cabin and great temperature regulation are the highlights of this car's general comfort. The ride is agreeable considering how well this car handles, too. More than one driver, however, found the seat cushions too stiff for comfort despite the good range of adjustability.
Interior
7.5Hyundai does a great job in making its cabin controls easy to learn and operate. They may not be fancy, but they are highly functional. The GT is a little short on rear passenger space, but on the whole, the cabin is well-executed.
Utility
7.5Hatchbacks are well-suited for cargo, and the Elantra GT is a model example of this. Cargo space is generous and in-cabin storage is well-thought-out with good options for all your personal effects. If you're looking to fit a car seat, there are some suboptimal aspects to be aware of.
Technology
7.5Hyundai was one of the first to offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and it continues to offer smart, well-integrated solutions to connect and use your smartphone. Its driver aids tend not to be as user-friendly, and our Elantra GT test car was lacking a few that are typically included.
