On our second weekend of ownership, we took the teenage grandsons to Cownans Gap SP in south central Pennsylvania. Doesn't matter if it's overnight or a week, when camping you have to "load up"; and we did including 4 bikes. The trunk was great, placed backpacks with clothes and bike gear in the water tight cargo space. Carried 1 bike in the bed and 3 on the hitch mounted rack. Round Trip 323 miles of mountains, turnpike and secondary roads... 24.0 mpg ! Everyone was comfortable in the cabin; A/C in the front set at 73; rear 68. Storage under the rear seat was invaluable; no hump, all usable space. Downsized from a 2013 Silverado, didn't need the big truck any longer. The trip proved it. Great Ride, Great Weekend. 2-18-17 Follow Up: Truck has been tremendous, does everything required. Everyone comments on how much room there is in the back seat. I have a short 12 mile commute to work, hilly back roads mostly; getting 18 to 21 mpg. Downsized from a full size pick up. Handles great. No problems in the parking garage. Really satisfied with purchase; no buyers remorse. August 2017: First Year... A Great Year. on vacation, towing enclosed trailer... no problems. Couple next to us Honda and Harley owners, just like us ( who would ever thought... ). August 2018 - 2 years of ownership... People ask me - at the gas station, at a red light - and I gladly tell them about my Ridgeline. Did I tell you that the ladies group "Reserve" the Ridgeline to take on their conference weekends ?? I have no say in the matter. They go, they take the Ridgeline. 8/23/2020 55k miles commuting in and out of the city to work, weekend yard and house maintenance, vacations, weekend get-a-ways... oh and the relatives who ask to borrow the truck -- in a phrase "It's Great". Definitely take a look, take a drive and seriously consider th Ridgeline.

Improvements to previous generation are spot on

I previously owned the 2007 version of this truck. When I purchased that truck in 2012 I paid 19K and I sold it for 10K (4 years later) after putting 65K miles on it. That is an amazingly low annual cost. I had absolutely no issues with the previous version. *(Update: I have had zero maintenance issues so far. A few dealership trips to tighten a few fit and finish things, that's it) Needless to say, I put a lot of miles on my car and I wanted better gas mileage and something I knew would last me a long time so I looked at the new version. I also loved the versatility of the Ridgeline and the very good road manners. The improvements are perfect. I absolutely love the option to turn off a few cylinders and go into "eco" mode. I even got 30 MPG wile taking a road trip! My average over the first 2200 miles has been a very respectable 23 MPG. *(Update: now with 26500 miles I have averaged 21 MPG mostly city driving. I will still get 25+ on trips, but most of my miles are city) I love the technology and all the bells and whistles, which is why I opted for the Black Edition. So far, I have appreciated the lane departure and front collision warning, but I am still getting used to the beeping when I get close to things. *(Update: I keep all of these assistive technologies on all of the time. They are super helpful and have become a seamless part of my driving) My kids have loved the Apple Carplay and completely taken over the music which sounds incredible in this truck. They also love the truck-bed audio system and controlling it from their phone through Bluetooth. My biggest compliment to this new version is the ride comfort and quality. *(Update: This continues to be my biggest compliment. This is simply a very nice ride!) Clearly Honda made very significant improvements to the sound dampening because it is very quiet in the cabin even at freeway speeds. Everything feels quicker and more nimble. The engine has lots of power especially when eco mode is off. *(Update: I purchased a 3500lb popup camper and it tows beautifully. Lots of power and good control, I always felt secure) I did completely fill the bed and the interior and while the suspension felt a little softer, it was still very secure. The headlights are amazing, I can see things clearly at night. *(Update: Seriously, these headlights are amazing. I am consistently appreciative of how effective they are especially on dark, rainy nights.) I was also so amazed when the brights turned off automatically when I was driving on a country road at night and there was an oncoming car. Yes, the controls for the touchscreen take a little while to get used to, but I actually appreciated that some of the features and settings were limited to when I was not driving so as to not distract the driver. Now that I am used to them I appreciate them, but I do think a physical lever or button for sound would be nice beyond the steering wheel controls. I really like the red accents and lighting but in all honesty, I was disappointed that in this top of the line black edition the red lighting was only in the front seat-wells and door handles and there were none for the back seats. The interior has good quality and soft materials. I did notice that the access to the back seats through the doors is a little less on this new model. Not a big deal but getting bigger things into the back seat is a little more challenging. (Update: I have not been impeded at all by the access in the rear seats, and no one who has ever been a passenger back there has mentioned it.) I really like the new exterior styling, very sleek. While not an overly rugged looking truck, it appeals to me because it looks sophisticated and at home in the city which is where I do the majority of my driving. I do not consider myself an off-roader but I did take this new truck out on the beach and tested out the "sand mode" and it performed with flying colors. My previous version was simply stunning in the snow so I expect the same with this generation. *(Update: I've been through a few snowstorms here including an ice + 10 inch snow event and it performed perfectly even w/o chains) No deals to be had at the dealership, at least not yet while demand is high and inventory is low. Overall, I believe that Honda took the best parts of the Ridgeline (ride quality, performance, versatility, features) and improved each one significantly. They also fixed my biggest complaint with the previous version (16 mpg average in mixed driving). I also fit the demographic Honda was targeting very well: mostly city driver, rarely tows/hauls/offroads but wants the versatility only a truck can provide while also wanting the comfort of an SUV. Bingo! *(Update: my big takeaway after 26500 miles and 19 months: This is a solid, comfortable, versatile and quiet truck that makes me feel secure in all of the driving situations I have been in so far. It has been a pleasurable 26500 miles. I expect many more! Kudos, Honda)

"I love my City Boy Truck"

I bought my Ridgeline about 2 months ago when they first came out and I am In Love!!! This is my first truck and 2nd Honda (06 Honda Accord) and I have found the perfect truck for me. I live in the city and just need a truck on weekends and moving stuff once in a while. This is perfect, the Ridgeline is so quiet and drives like a SUV. I sometimes forget that I am driving a truck. Gas is not an issue, I have to fill it up once a week if that. the technology is great. Apple Carplay, Bluetooth, Navigation, rear view and side view cameras, its all there! the Inside is comfortable, quiet and has tons of storage space. When I am stopped at a stop light people stare, so being one of the first to drive around in one of these is pretty cool too. Highly recommend this truck for people like me that dont need a big Truck for their everyday lives but for the people that drive to the office back and forth Monday through Friday but need that extra truck space every once in a while.

Dumped a '16 Tacoma Ltd and Happy I did!

Last year, my wife and I decided to replace our FJ Cruiser with a truck, and bought a new '16 Tacoma Ltd 4x4. What a mistake that was. When speaking with Toyota Corporate or the Dealership about the issues we had (poor shifting, buzziness in steering wheel at speed, poor mileage, others too numerous to mention) all we got was : "Functions as designed." I was sick to my stomach about how much we were going to lose trading in; however, started looking elsewhere because I just couldn't drive the Tacoma, anymore. Drove the GM twins and was OK with them; however, we were worried about the dreaded Consumer Reports black dot on reliability. A friend suggested we look at the new Ridgeline (and I was pleased when I researched and saw that it didn't look like the previous gen, with that wing-back design) and our local dealer emailed and said they had 5 coming in on 6/22 and they'd be ready to see and drive on 6/23. We went by first thing on 6/23, test drove a Pearl White RTL-E with black interior, made the deal and bought it on the spot. Comfortable, smooth, quiet, much more rear seat room than the Tacoma; and, handled amazingly well. Everything you could or would want in a mid-size pickup, all with a number of unique features, like the in-bed trunk, fold up rear seats, unique dual release tailgate and a suite of safety features. After owning it now for 3 weeks, I can unequivocally say that dumping the Tacoma and buying the Ridgeline was one of the best decisions I've ever made, in spite of losing almost $5k in the transaction. I didn't know how stressful it was to own/drive the Tacoma, until we got rid of it and purchased the Ridgeline. Wife loves it, too, and she did not really like the Tacoma at all. What did the Tacoma do better? Well, it looked more 'macho-trucky' (subjective...The RL looks soft; however, it took no time to get used to it and it's amazing the compliments I get), the Tacoma tows more (if you really need to tow, a mid-size shouldn't be where it's at, though, and the RL's 5k rating is more than enough for what I occasionally tow, or buy a GM twin diesel), and it would do better off-road in extreme conditions, like rock crawling. Otherwise, there is absolutely, in my mind, nothing else that the Toyota comes close to doing that the RL doesn't do much better. Unless you are an extreme off-roader or are put off by the looks (or the fact that it's a Honda truck), why would anyone even consider buying any other mid-size truck? All this and Honda reliability, too, as it's not like a totally new design, the engine and trans come from the Pilot and they started with a Pilot 'frame' and beefed it up to handle truck duties, so it's been proven to work well and reliably. Check it out, I'm very glad I did and took the plunge.

The Truck you need, if not the one you want.

I liked the looks of the Tacoma and Colorado quite a bit more than the Ridgeline but after test driving all three, there was no doubt in my mind which one I would buy. If not the comfort, then the tech, if not the tech, then the active safety equipment. I absolutely love the fold up rear seats and the trunk bed, well worth the slightly higher bed height

Unique Truck With Lots To Like, But Not Perfect

UPDATED 3/20/17: Still like the vehicle, with a few disappointments. Acceleration is good when mashing the peddle, but low end responsiveness in day to day driving is weak. Transmission never seems to be in the gear I want making precise control of speed difficult. A manual mode or a performance mode to flip the computer to a more aggressive dynamic would alleviate, but alas the only option is a lone button to downshift to D4. Steering/handling remains a Honda strength and is exceptional, as the vehicle steers like a car. It also rides like a Honda, which is to say a bit on the stiff side, but tuning makes it handle great on uneven terrain and a worthwhile tradeoff. Storage is great, you really can fit a golf bag under the rear seat, and the rear trunk and bed are both wide and useful. I hate the touch screen interface, after 6 months I still get lost at times as it is not intuitive. The E trim also states "premium" sound, but the frequency dynamics leave something to be desired, as off the shelf components I installed on my old truck beats this new premium stereo (not by a lot, but by enough to note). MPG is underwhelming and exactly as stated on sticker, no more. Others have noted higher than advertised MPG (even up to 30), but that is a myth, as the average MPG calculator on this vehicle (as well as the 2016 Pilot's) overstate by ~2 MPG. I have to wonder if Honda did that on purpose? Suggestion, verify your MPG using a calculator at the gas pump, as the info center gets it wrong on this vehicle. Lighting: I keep getting flashed by opposing drivers with dim headlights on. Not sure if they are aimed to too high or what, but never had that problem on any other vehicle. Instrument cluster is average and has the stuff you'd expect on a modern vehicle. The real time MPG in info center is completely worthless though, not granular enough, and difficult to read. If anything should have been digital vs analog, it's that. Interior lights are weak and narrow (like a spotlight). Cannot see a large portion of the storage areas of the car at night. Chimes from the cluster are tinny. Power rear sliding window and sunroof work great. Mirror defroster works great (less than a minute). Front seat headrests are poorly positioned (they lean too far forward). I actually had to remove my drivers head rest and swap it with a rear head rest (those are not tilted). Felt like my head was tilted forward 24/7. HVAC is strong, heats and cools quickly, and controls are easy to use. Front ground clearance is more light SUV than "truck", however, the front air dam is a flexible rubber instead of hard plastic, meaning you can scrape the ground and it bends instead of breaks. I tested this out through a creek bed and scraped the air dam (not on purpose, haha) and it came out with some grass on it, but no damage. The USB ports only work with car in ACC or ON. Come on Honda, I can't leave my phone in the car to charge without turning on all accessories? The spare tire (while not "full size") is in the trunk and away from the elements. This may not seem like a big deal until years down the road and you have a flat. Trust me when I tell you not being able to remove the spare tire on your rusted out undercarriage of a truck will have you saying a few choice words, been there, done that. Nice design Honda! Rear camera works and has 3 top down viewing angles to choose from which makes hitching up a trailer very easy, however, the resolution on the camera is poor, and, if it's raining it gets wet and blurry. The vehicle tows Ok and pulls my 2500 lb boat easily. The driver assist technology is semi-useful, but a bit gimmicky at the same time. Lane keeper will drive the car for you on "level" pavement, even around moderate curves, however it doesn't work well on sloped pavement as it drifts all the way to the line before correcting. On level pavement, it's dead true. It also only stays on for 15 seconds before it makes you touch/grab the wheel for a second (then the 15 seconds restarts). Blind spot detection works but not very useful, however, the backup warning of side traffic works great and has great range. This helps when backing out of spots where it's hard to see, or if you're not paying attention. It actually helped me avoid a jogger wearing black at dusk when backing out of driveway one night! The single most useful feature is probably the adaptive cruise, which actually works, but I would like to see more configuration options on distance from preceding vehicle. Road departure not very helpful, comes on after you're already heading into the ditch (i.e. too late). Overall, after 6 months, I've lowered my opinion of the vehicle slightly due it being advertised as a "truck", but missing key "truck" like features like enough ground clearance to hit a curb without damage, not enough low end torque, no "always on" power port, poor interior lighting, and no positive surprises in regards to MPG.

Mid-Sized Have It All Truck

Allan, 09/04/2016

Traded in my 2016 Tacoma TRD-Offroad, Double-Cab, Long-Bed truck to get the new Ridgeline. I was forced to down-size after moving across the country to a house with a crowded garage. My F150 just barely fit in our garage and leaving it outside isn't an option due to the brutal sun and hail storms of Colorado. I had to choose between the Tacoma and the Colorado truck when I down-sized at the time. Definitely wasn't thrilled with either option, but the Tacoma edged-out the Colorado. My Tacoma (and the Colorado) have lack-luster acceleration. Driving the Tacoma to work and back on not-so-wonderful roads was punishing at times. Sure the Tacoma is a great off-road vehicle, but it needs much better manners to be a daily driver. I could go on about the Tacoma, but I'll stop here. The 2017 Ridgeline I was a little skeptical about, but I was really wanting to find a better mid-sized truck option. When the Ridgeline was available in my area for a test drive I had to try it out. My wife had a 2013 Honda Pilot that we really liked and I knew this new truck had the latest version of the engine from the Pilot. Wow! What a difference! Smooth, quiet, powerful, and much roomier inside the cabin. My son couldn't sit in the back of my Tacoma as his head would be touching the roof of the cab. The Ridgeline has plenty of head room for my son and in spite of the really cool stadium rear seating in the Ridgeline, he still has inches of head room to spare. The Ridgeline has already delivered as high as 30MPG for me on the highway and I can average 25-26MPG in mixed driving (I do use the ECON mode about half the time). The lowest I've seen it get while driving in the mountains was a tad over 22MPG. This is using the lower octane gas (85). The ride is smooth, just a little stiffer than our Pilot due to have a suspension more suitable for a truck. The handling is awesome. The AWD and suspension made it a fun vehicle to drive on the twisty mountain roads. In fact, the AWD is full-time torque-vectoring, very much like what you would get in a Subaru. Before looking into the Ridgeline, I assumed it would be FWD by default and then the rear wheels kick-in when needed, but not so... We will be pulling a camping trailer later with the Ridgeline (probably one that weighs around 3200lbs as the max towing capacity is 5000lbs, also a trailer brake controller will be installed on the Ridgeline) and I will report on how that goes. The only thing about the Ridgeline that I find a little annoying is that the brake peddle is a little mushier than what I'm used to. BTW...this truck is fast and highly responsive!

Had this truck for three weeks and already taken it on a long haul trip. 26mpg was surprisingly good. We love the vehicle and at the moment I can't come up with a criticism. Our first truck and first Honda! Jan 2017 Update: As a suburban DIY and weekend warrior, I am still loving this truck. Cons I've found are: 1. No power retractable mirrors. It would be easier to pull into the garage with this simple feature available on the Pilot. 2. The fog lights are not LED (not optional), and don't look very impressive when paired with the awesome LED headlights.

The truck has great visibility, features, handling, and comfort. It combines the feel of driving an SUV or crossover, with a bed. If I wanted a semi, I'd buy one. So, the people that feel that it's 'not a real truck' - whatever, enjoy your 3 mpg and stepladder mounted to the side. You haul the same amount as I do in all likelihood... but yes, I might want something larger if I was towing a yacht or megacamper, or concrete, or something. Then, consider a megatruck.

This truck is not what Americans want to buy, and I'm going to explain to you why. 1) Styling - This truck is styled to look sleek and urban... when Americans buy trucks, they want something that looks mean, aggressive, and tough, never-mind 99% of usage is commuting to work. 2) Tow Rating - American's want trucks that can tow over 10,000 lbs, never-mind 95% will never tow anything and 99% will not exceed the 5000 lbs this truck is capable of. 3) Cargo Capacity - American's want a truck that can hold at least 1,500 lbs in the bed... wait, this truck can do that too. 4) Handling & Ride Comfort - Americans want a truck that sways to the side when turning and rides rough, this truck will never do. 5) Wide Bed - Americans don't want to be able to fit a piece of 4x8 plywood flat in the bed, they want it to have to be angled-in... it just makes sense. 6) Drives like a Car - This truck handles like a mid-sized SUV and corners like a champ thanks to torque vectoring. Trucks are supposed to be difficult to drive, to ensure you take corners slow. 7) AWD - Real trucks have 4x4, that way the power is never there when you need it in real-world conditions like rain covered roads or spotty ice/snow. 8) In-Bed Storage - Americans know all they want to haul in their truck is landscaping bricks and hay bails, what would they ever use the lockable under-bed storage for? 9) Compact Spare - Americans need a full size spare, for the once-every-five-years they get a flat with a loaded trailer or in off-road conditions. 10) Swing-open tailgate - Tailgates are only supposed to open one way, we want to crawl in the bed to get to items in the front. 11) V6 - It doesn't matter this truck can tow 5000 lbs and carry 1500 lbs, Americans need to support the oil and gas industry - we need V8 power! 12) In-bed-Inverter - Americans don't want 110 volts in the bed, keep it in the cab, and we'll run extension cords for our tailgating activities. 13) Missing Go-pro mount - How do you expect us to capture our drive to work without a go-pro mount in the windshield? Everybody on YouTube wants to see my drive to work! As you can see, this truck clearly isn't built for Americans... but if you're aren't American, or if you want to buy a truck for the specs/features you'll use instead of the specs/features that look good on paper, then you might just enjoy this truck as much as I do. I've now owned this truck for a little over a year and about 14,000 miles. I still stand by everything I wrote above... and in that year I even moved from my Suburban home to a small farm outside of town - still nothing beats the Ridgeline if it has the features and specifications you need. As an update just over two years into this truck. My Android Auto consistently doesn't work. I'm not sure if it is a phone issue, a head unit issue, or a cable issue. Also, occasionally the Bluetooth will freeze up, not allowing me to answer calls and just continuously ringing. I find both of these issues very frustrating. I'm not right at about 50,000 miles on this truck.

New Reigning Champion

I traded an 09 Nissan Frontier 4x4 for my new Honda Ridgeline Black Edition. I couldn't be happier with the upgrade. Some question the Honda's "truckiness", but those criticisms are strangely self serving in some weird way. Those who are compelled to point out that the Tacoma, Canyons or Frontier in their most able iterations can out-haul or traverse a more dire off road terrain than the Ridgeline appear to believe that most people buy trucks for such purposes. Research has shown that 94% of truck buyers rarely undertake those endeavors. Just as we often see large 7 passenger SUVs occupied by the driver only. The truth is the Ridgeline rides, drives and handles better than the competition. It's better on fuel economy, has more technology and user friendly options than the competition. And, for doing the work that 95% of truck buyers do, it does it just as well as the others. New champ in town. Long live the Champ!

I am a 56 year old business man and for 25 years I have driven luxury sedans. But I have always wanted an AWD pickup truck. My new Ridgeline rides very much like a luxury sedan. Its quiet, handles well, is comfortable and roomy, and has all the convenience electronics I need. But its a truck! Best of both worlds. I love it.

Almost everything about the Ridgeline is great. The one issue I still have is with the Bluetooth and touchscreen, none of it is easy to use or intuitive. You have to touch the screen many times just to get to the area you want and the blue tooth seems to work about 40% of the time. The gas mileage promised by Honda is overstated, but I guess that is to be excepted these days. The truck is super comfortable and very roomy. I have been building a deck on my house and it is great for trips to the hardware store to pick up lumber or bags of concrete. Sure the bed is short, but you can lay the tail gate down and you do not look like a fool with lumber sticking out your car window. It is worth the money I paid for sure.

I'm 2 months into ownership and absolutely love the Ridgeline RTL-E. It's smooth, comfortable and elegant with the alloys, running boards, chrome and rear tri-fold cover. It's a head turner in pearl white. This is my first truck and it's everything I will ever need in utility. If you're looking to drive in comfort and have the ability to pick up stuff at Home Depot and could care less about hauling and off road this is more truck then you'll ever need. This truck is well mannered, car- like and composed and I love all of the tech features, lane departure, collision mitigation and the auto hi-beams. Audio has great sound, Navigation is great but the touch screen is quirky and takes some getting used to. I think they should change the touch screen going forward. They need to add cooled seats and outside mirror signals, as the RTL-E is the top of the line. Lastly the tailgate does not lock; bummer. Overall, great truck! I’m one year into ownership and the truck is running flawlessly. I’ve changed the oil a few times and rotated the tires, that’s all. This truck has exceeded my expectations and I stand by my original rating . No disappointments thus far. After nearly 4 years , the truck is still running flawlessly, just oil changes, and a set of new tires, I highly recommend. Will purchase another one in future.

The hwy mileage has been as high as 31 mpg. Mostly at 27 to 29 mpg hwy. Combined mileage 23 to 27. Way better than my 2006 and 2012 Ridgeline. I just wish all the RTL models had the sliding rear window. This model was a great value at $37000. March 2017. Update. Just took a 5600 mile road trip south and west to Arizona. Average mileage was 26 mpg. Many speed limits were 80 mph. Great truck. Mileage on vehicle now 14000.

Sports utility truck, not a work truck, ideal for many people. If you want to lift your truck and go off-road rock crawling, this truck is not for you. if you want a highly designed, engineered and comfortable truck to help you through your active mobile life, seriously consider the new G2 Ridgeline.

First off this truck is amazing. So much we almost got two but could not get two so we got a new fit. But this Vehicle is great. When driving you completely forget your in a "truck". I have a 99 ford f350 diesel and a 05 jeep wrangler. I have owned a Colorado and Ranger. Nothing compares I have never bought a new vehicle till i bought this brand new and well the fit to. the truck has lived up to everything so far. We have put about 2000 miles on it since thanksgiving. I live in upstate ny and where in snow season now. I did get stuck...but wait whats this snow mode button do and insistently i was unstuck amazing great system. It makes no funny noises that a vehicle shouldn't make. It easy to clean not to many hiding pockets to catch all the salt. This radio thing people are complaining about...well it took us about 1500 miles before we got the hang of it. Its much easier to use if you use the voice or steering wheel controls. Then you never need to touch anything. Plus its a computer you need to give things a chance to "think". Compared to the fit the controls are not very driver orientated but your passenger will do just fine. Were a drive in couple and the bed speakers will rock the heck out of the drive in this summer we cant wait. Are real average for gas so far is under 21 mpg. We do a ton of mix driving plus its winter now. The vehicle just makes you want to drive it which is what a vehicle of USE ABILITY should do for you. No complaint's now only time to wait for the type-r civic.......

I went through Tacoma, Canyon, Ridgeline and Colorado. Exactly in that order. Money wise Colorado is your best but it's also the worst in terms of design, handling and overall quality. Canyon is just little better but still far inferior to Tacoma. Both Colorado and Canyon are example how not to design interior of small tuck, imo it's just horrible. Tacoma low sitting position is beyond awkward and the best off road capability is not sell option for me in Florida where I live. I was surprise how good Ridgeline stands among others - roomy interior, very good quality fit and finish, SUV like ride and this bed trunk where I'm diving so very often for my tools. I have bed where I can lay flat 4x8 and dual action tailgate to dive into the trunk. For me bed trunk is huge advantage 'cos any tool box installed on bed render it somehow useless. Ridgeline is not perfect ( which truck is ? ) I found quite annoying that rear cab doors can't be fully open to 90 deg.

I had narrowed my purchase options down to 4 door 4 wd compact trucks; Tacoma, Colorado and Ridgeline. the first Ridgeline I was able to drive was the Black Edition. I was always leaning toward a Tacoma but I test drove the Tacoma, Colorado and Ridgeline back to back. Unfortunately the Tacoma engine- transmission gearing feels wrong, on the highway with the cruise control on the Tacoma had to downshift and was screaming to maintain 70 mph up a small hill. The Ridgeline in contrast feels smooth, refined, powerful, the engine is not screaming to maintain 70 mph up a small hill on the highway. The Colorado actually finished in second place in my new truck list, it feels smaller inside. I choose the Ridgeline; Honda reliability, gas mileage, handling & ride. I wasn't sure I was going to like the way it looked from the official photos but when I saw the BE I loved the modern new truck look. This Ridgeline combines the functionality of and takes the place of my Subaru Forester and my old 93 2wd Toyota truck. In my first 500 miles I turned the Econ mode on and got 27 mpg with the adaptive cruise control set at 70 mph. When I switched Econ off and drive normal combined city highway at speeds exceeding 75 mph I still got 24 mpg. I can live with that mpg. The interior feels large and refined, mine has lots of leather, and more technological bells and whistles than I need, Adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, push button start, Apple car-play, rear camera, blind spot warning, cross traffic monitor, lane departure warning-correction, emergency front collision avoidance braking, sunroof, power rear slider, power everything, 540 watt stereo, three zone climate control with rear vents, Led lights everyplace, multiple usb ports, and the best party trick is the truck bed audio system. The Ridgeline Black edition feels like; a luxury car, a sports car, a big suv, and a truck all rolled into one. I don't plan to go off roading I plan to take long trips, tailgate, fill the back seat with grandkids, and occasionally haul a full sheet of plywood or a load of mulch. It's early, but I love it! Update: I've put 12,000 plus miles on my Ridgeline in the first 6 months. From Colorado to Atlantic Beach where this truck really shines is on long cross country drives. Crossing the Kansas prairie with the adaptive cruise control set on 77 I averaged 27.8 MPG. The Lane Keeper Assist technology takes some getting "used to" the first time you feel the truck gently turning the steering wheel in your hands it is a bit unsettling. However this combination of semi autonomous features is most helpful on long interstate drives. It's comforting to know the truck will not run over that car slowing in front of you and it will help you stay in your lane. This week while getting some service work done I sat in a new sport edition Ridgeline just for comparison. It confirmed my decision to buy the top of the line Black Edition. One wierd service issue came up, for about the last 6 thousand miles I have been hearing a noise that seemed to be coming from the front suspension, the first dealer that performed an oil change could not find anything wrong. After listening to this rattle and getting increasingly annoyed I took it to a second dealer and asked to demonstrate the noise for the technician. He said immediately it sounds like someone left a tool in there. 2 hours later he produced a small penlight flashlight that was found in the radiator support bracket. Since I had never seen the flashlight before and the noise started before it's first service I'm not sure how it got in there. But the noise is gone. I love this truck. 28,000 miles dealer replaced one catalytic converter, under warranty and the heater on the passenger seat is not always heating on high. The dealer wants me to leave it for a few days so they can figure it out. But I still love the truck. The passenger side seat heater was fixed by the dealer unplugging it, testing it and reconnecting it. I’m assuming the connection was the issue. I have 3 years and 36,000 miles on my Ridgeline Black Edition it handles like a sports car, hauls like a pickup truck, comfort of a luxury car, averages above 22 mpg, get above 27 mpg with the adaptive cruise control set at 77.

Twice I have had an issue with the sensors giving every error. This is due to the sensor compartment getting wet. Dirt time driving in the rain. Second time after a car wash. I am told they will order parts and replace the unit. But since others are having the same issue. Honda needs to take another look at this area of the design. I paid cash for my vehicle, I love the truck. But will not put up with this issue.

I have to say, being in the car business and working for another brand that pick up isn't available, took me a long time to decide which one would be the best hands down mid size pick up truck out there, if you are in the market for a midsize pick up truck take 20 minutes of your time and go to the nearest Honda dealer and test drive the new 2017 Ridgeline and you will understand what I'm talking about, you basically getting a Acura Pick up truck, a step a head of Tacoma, Frontier, Colorado etc! You will not be disappointed!!! Good luck!

At 66 years old I was looking for some comfort, utility room, and some driving fun....got it with our "E". My wife and I live in Minnesota and took delivery in February after about 6 weeks of waiting. The heated seats and steering wheel are wonderful and very good control and feel in snow and ice. I have been pleasantly surprised now in the summer months when opening the sun roof and rear window at the nice ventilation and fresh air flow through the cabin. Recently did a 700 mile road trip much of which used the Ecco mode and averaged 28.5 MPG. The trips to the home and garden stores are much more pleasant now when hauling lumber and bags of mulch....hauling grandkids in back is much easier now as well. Much has been written about the information system...pro and con...I'm enjoying getting out the manual...going on line and educating myself on the system....I do enjoy the large screen and the in bed speakers are fun for an old 60s rocker. I suspect Honda will address some of the grumbles that have been mentioned in these posts...yes the rear doors could open wider and yes some knobs on the radio would be nice as well but this old guy and his bride of 37 years are very pleased with our "E" Update....August 2020.. Still in love with the Ridgeline..It is everything we need in a.truck. would defently look at the 3d generation when they come out.100% satisfied.

Have not driven the Ridgeline much since the last update. It has been a year since the last oil change and only about 3,200 miles. The vehicle continues to run well, though I am considering getting the VCM Muzzler to prevent cylinder deactivation which does put additional stress and wear on the transmission. Still averaging about 19.5mpg between city and highway driving, and can get up to 26mpg with all highway miles.

The new Ridgeline handles great and the ride is more car-like. The interior is spacious while the seats are comfortable and provide good support. The truck has a large trunk that can be locked. I purchased the RTL trim level because the radio has dials for volume and tuning.

In the summer of 2018 the truck started having warning lights coming on in the instrument cluster. At one time ALL the lights came on (red, blue, yellow etc). I took it to the dealer at least 3 times and Honda just would NOT step up to the plate and fix it. No one at the dealership was really concerned UNTIL I imploded in the middle of the sales room floor on one visit. Then they were ready to look into the problems with my truck. It was there for quite a while and the wiring problem required removing the bed from the truck and I believe replacing the wiring harness from the cab back. Comfort and ease of getting in and out of the truck is a great feature but reliability is more important. NO MORE HONDA'S FOR ME, we went back to Toyota.

It's What I Need and More

I traded a 2012 RTL that I liked a lot and the 2017 is a step up. Most of the negatives of the previous generation Ridgeline have been addressed, Here goes the pluses: 1)The MPG is great, first tank of HWY driving I averaged 27. 2)The quiet of the cab is impressive, better than most cars. 3)The seats are all day comfortable and 4)the ride is serene. 5)It goes straight down the road. 6)It is much quicker than my 2012, much. So, it is a home run, but a few things keep it from being a grand slam. Here goes my reasoning: 1)Why no Michelin tires? Firestone Destinations are just OK. 2)The armrests are small and cheap looking. For the price there should be a 3) electric rear window, 4) sunroof and 5) presets for two drivers. 6)Plus the dull black trim between the front and back windows beg for chrome trim to match the rest of the window trim. The styling is a "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder issue" so I'll not add my opinion, but the San Marino red color would make it pop. November 2018 Update: (I was blasted from behind while sitting at a stop light by a driver going 40 mph +/- who was "not" texting so this review is on a replacement Ridgeline) Last three tanks of gas yielded: 23.7, 22.5 and 23.1 mpg. This was a 60/40 HWY/City blend of driving. Negatives: Replaced vinyl at bottom of driver door as it was loose. Want San Marino red availability and the fold down driver and passenger armrests are still too flimsy. I have had no mechanical problems other than the Honda dealer changed oil which resulted in oil dripping on my garage floor. (Not the Ridgeline's fault but thought I'd share). Every time my I phone has an update (??) I have to re synch my phone to the Ridgeline. It ain't easy and involves receiving an email with a code. What a pain..... Moving on to positives: I am able to pull my boat weighing about 3000 lbs no problem. It is still really quiet with no rattles or noises. Carries 1000 lb loads of 12' deck boards perfectly by lowering tailgate and putting one strap over top of load. Tires show minimal wear so my previous Firestone tire complaint may be unwarranted. Other than that the truck seems to be as good as new. May 2020: Ridgeline continues on. Other than tire wear and routine oil changes I just drive it. Pluses I mentioned earlier continue but I am annoyed by the substandard infotainmment system that usually refuses to pair with my phone. It just wont......I have to start a call from my phone before the truck will pick recognize my phone. What a pain. Come on Honda it isn’t 2010 anymore! I am thinking of upgrading to an RTL-E but am waiting til Honda fixes this issue. MPG averages 23 fill to fill. And where is the San Marino red color option????? OK it is 11/28/20 and I have 36K on the Ridgeline, it has been near flawless other than the tech issues. I am thinking of a 21 but worry that that if I trade the 21 will have more issues than my 17. Anyway, I continue to average 23 mpg fill to fill, have 8/32nds left on the tires and that's about it. It is still quiet and free of rattles. Maybe trading isn't such a good idea. May 31, 2021. 41K miles, tires are still the originals but although they are not down to the wear bars they are loud with poor ride quality so they should be gone. RL is still great driving, mpg averages 23 with occasional hwy trips as high as 28. (downhill both ways). Infotainment system stinks as it is Oh So Slow and updating the Nav is such a pain I dont use it. (I use my cell phone instead). When will car manufacturers just use cell phone tech for nav and give up doing their own thing? Other than that it drives well. I am thinking of trading for a new RL but am not sure why. June 1, 2022: RL just keeps on ticking. No issues other than previous ones noted so I don't need a new one. Today, it has 48,024 miles with minimal issues. I put on Michelin LTX tires at 44,000. Not sure why I went to Michelin as I have to admit that although I was skeptical about the OE Firestone Destinations, they were just fine. My BAK tonneau cover has also aged well, actually it looks and works new. So I just do normal maintenance and drive. Dec '22 Update: Now have 52,000 miles on it. I have had no big mechanical breakdowns. My RL is still quiet, rattle free and I am feeling guilty as I have really had no maintenances done other than routine oil changes and new set of Michelin Defenders at 44K. I thought about having the tranny fluid changed but my brother talked me out of it - stating "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." It still has the original battery and spark plugs. I changed the engine and cabin air filters myself at a fraction of the dealer quoted price. Other than that I just drive it. I pull my 3500# boat with ease and still get about 23mpg fill to fill. Hwy mpg is more but cold weather mpg is less. Keep driving it is my thought for the future. June 1, 2023: 54,972 miles. Still running great but have noticed surging (?) when accelerating. Not sure what it is but I am starting my fix with 2 bottles of Techron fuel system cleaner. Maybe I am dreaming as I read of kinds of tranny issues and notice some unpublic Honda quiet warranty on fuel injector problems. I hesitate to take it to the dealer as I don't want them going on a fix fishing trip with my billfold. Other than that everything I previously wrote continues, MPG averaging around 23 for all driving, same battery (I know I should replace it with a new one but I am cheap), I replace air and cabin filters myself and that's about it. The BAK cover is great and still looks like new. The Michelin LTXs I put on at 44,000 are great and look like they will outlast me. I consider trading but then read all the internet chatter of new RL model troubles, so I don't want to get something that isn't as good as what I got. Dec 2, 2023: 59,000 miles. Since my last update I had the tranny fluid changed due to the juddering issue. Honda paid for it. TX Honda. It fixed that issue. Fixed it....no more problems. So, other than my previously stated slow/outdated infotainment comments that continue I am a happy owner. I still have the original battery - I know I should change it but it just keeps working perfectly so... Quiet, 23mpg average, comfortable have caused me NOT to trade for a new RL. I read about so many issues on new models that I have decided to drive my '17. If crap happens, it's gotta be cheaper to just fix it. Right? Dec 4, 2024 Update: RL now has 68,145 miles. I still have the original battery and spark plugs. I just rotate tires, change cabin and engine air filters and change the oil/filter. I have grown used to the slow infotainment system so I don't notice it much until I get the screen warning that the NAV system is outdated. Yes, it is but updating it is such a pain I use my phone if I suspect a problem. Otherwise I still get about 24 mpg summer and 21 winter in all driving fill to fill. It still is quiet but the Michelins now have 24k on them and they are getting a bit loud but that's not a RL problem. I had fluids changed so I think it is cheaper to keep driving this RL than to buy a new one. Maybe I will wait to trade until the new body style RL comes out. June 2025 Update: Nothing.....Crickets.....Same.... by that I mean I just keep driving it. The issues I noted earlier are still there, but it drives as new. Other than normal maintenance I kind of take it for granted.

Udpdate: It has been 24 months and it is still one of my favorite vehicles. Nothing but praise for this vehicle! Update: it has been appropriately 18 months and the Ridgeline is still one of my favorite vehicles that I have ever owned. I was not looking for a truck when I found the Ridgeline. I thought I would replace my Pilot with another SUV. My son had a Tacoma and complained about the rough truck ride so I did not think I would like a truck. I test drove the Ridgeline and found it drove as smoothly as an SUB. The rear seat was roomy and comfortable. I loved the trunk feature and the side opening tailgate. People I work with are impressed and are considering purchasing other Ridgelines. This was a great purchase and I would recommend a Ridgeline to a friend.

The redesigned 2017 Honda Ridgeline is a significant improvement over the previous design. I previously owned a 2006 and 2011 Ridgeline, but left Honda three years ago to another brand (GMC) due in large part to the prior outdated design, old technology (really, no USB port?), etc. The new Ridgeline has fixed the problems of the past with much improved technology, better sound system, modern design, quiet ride and comfortable handling. The safety features (RTL-E) are impressive, perhaps redundant (Lane Keeping Assist vs. Road Departure Mitigation systems). Very pleased with combined city/highway milage (23-24), the ability to put the engine in ECO setting to shut down 2 cylinders when cruising is useful on long trips. Some new things are gimmicky (A/C outlet for tailgating tv and bed sound system) but overall it has received many looks and compliments, decent towing and AWD for our rural location. Update Aug 2019 After 3 years of ownership, I turned 50,000 miles last week. The Ridgeline is still the best mid-size truck in the market. The ride is exceptional whether the bed is empty or hauling firewood in the back. No problem towing a 4100 lb trailer on vacation. It still looks great, and I regularly get compliments and questions from people when gassing up or stopping for lunch. The only mechanical issue I experienced was a persistent on-and -off "Emissions Control Problem" warning light at 38,000 miles. diagnosed as a problem with fuel injectors. When it didn't correct after adding a few Gumout injector cleaners when filling up, the dealer initially reset the computer emission parameters under the service bulletin and under warranty. But the problem reappeared 3-4 months later, and due to the location and need to replace all of the injectors, the dealer quoted a repair price of $1500. The Honda Zone Manager initially refused to extend the warranty as the warranty period had passed. But after appealing to Honda corporate with the help of my dealer, they approved replacement of the injectors under a warranty extension since it initially appeared under the warranty milage limit...and apparently this is becoming a more common problem. The service manager recommended using a top tier premium fuel at least once every 4-5 fill-ups, and the problem has not recurred in 5000 miles.

From '16 Tacoma to '17 Ridgeline

People ask me why I switched from the Tacoma to the Ridgeline. Well, the Ridgeline just does everything better except for hard core off-roading. The seats are more comfortable, it's quieter, handles better, fuel economy is better and is just easier to live with on a daily basis. Having driven 3 VW GTIs for the last 10 years, my bride and I decided we wanted to explore the good 'ol USA and, after MUCH research we bought a Lance 1475 TT ( 3600 lb GVW) . A GTI is not known for its towing abilities so a pick-up was up next. The Tacoma has a sterling reputation and the refreshed one was just out. Test drive revealed that, yes, it is a pick-up with the appropriate capabilities we needed. It was not particularly comfortable or quiet but it is a pick-up, after all. This past summer, after owning the Tacoma for 4 months I saw that the new Ridgeline was out and was curious about it. Did not really think it was a contender for what my usages are (75% commuting, 300 mi wk, 25% towing). The local dealer finally had one on the lot, so I stopped and took a look-see. Nice, but not the burly styled ride the Tacoma is. A little later another one showed up. I was still curious so I stopped in and took a test drive. Big, BIG mistake! If I had known that this pick-up was coming out at the same time I was looking at the Tacoma, it would not have even been considered. As far as towing goes, they both do a fine job but the Ridgeline is just better in-spite of the lower tow rating. One interesting thing to mention is the Tacoma had a payload rating of 956 lbs while the Ridgeline had a payload of 1397 lbs.

A Truthful Review from a Lemon Owner

facemike911, 04/02/2018
2017 Honda Ridgeline RTL 4dr Crew Cab SB (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
28 of 31 people found this review helpful

At 400 miles my 2018 RTL Ridgeline started making mechanical pop'ing noises when driving at low speeds in forward and reverse and turning the steering wheel. Now at 3,000 miles it still makes those pop'ing noises while just driving straight at low speeds. They are loud, and it sounds like gears or something pop'ing. The issue gets worse when the vehicle is warmed up. I have taking it into Honda MANY times, starting at when it had 400 miles on it - but sadly, Honda is unable to determine the source of the noise - thus they just tell me to keep driving it since it is under warranty for another 3 years, so if it breaks, it is covered. Not what you want to hear after spending $35,500k (out the door all fees included) price on this RTL. I tried working with Honda corporate and their mediation specialist to get them to swap it out with another one, or buy it back, without success. I contacted the Virginia US Attorney General for help, and they reported back that Honda, after the last 3 attempts, never responded. The AG said they can't make them respond, but offered advise that I take it to court. So if you buy this Honda, please note, if you end up with a lemon like I did, Honda won't do anything about it - unless you drop thousands on legal fees to get them to stand-up and do the ethical and right thing. Also, the gas cap is poorly designed (which you will find on other forums). When it rains the water gets into the gas nozzle, if the rain freezes, the nozzle will freeze solid, so when you go to fill up, it will snap off (like it did with me). ALso, water in your gas tank will cause serious issues, and go luck getting Honda to cover that, since they will just blame it on the gasoline you are putting in, not their poorly designed gas port. The Honda CRV's have a plastic cap on the gas-cap door that covers the gas port (genius!) however, the Ridgeline's Q&A is not great, and they don't do that. Honda makes great CRV vehicles, but as far as their pickup truck - thumbs down on the Q&A.. Plus, the mechanics told me it was new and they are not expierenced with it, which makes it hard for them to diagnose where the mechanical pop'ing noises are coming from.. Lesson learned on my part, - I will Stick with manufactures that DONT just build one truck, but many - since they will be more experienced in that type of vehicle. Also, the rear doors don't open up all the way, which makes it a HUGE pain getting things in and out, the tailgate doesn't lock, and the bluetooth doesn't work well (Have to disconnect and re-connect often to get a good connection using my Iphone 6s - my CRV had no issues with the same phone). I hope this information helps shed some truth to the Quality of the Ridgeline.

You have read it other reviews, but the full throttle power is pretty awesome. I have the front wheel drive model and have to back off of the pedal due to spinning the tires too much. The braking is very good. The ride is so much more quieter than the older model. The suspension handles potholes and big bumps without worry, as in the beginning I would wince and brace that I surely would have a jarring experience. The sound system is very good. I had not heard HD radio before and now I won't use XM radio. Old songs sound great again on HD radio. I do have some comments and complaints. The '-T' in RTL-T stands for technology and lots of computer processing. After starting engine, the navigation takes a while to boot up and I have learned not to touch it until I think it's available and then wait 5 more seconds before I use it. You can't jump in and start your truck, plug in an address in the navigation and take off. Also after starting, the steering wheel volume buttons don't react at all sometimes and your natural instinct will be to keep pushing the volume buttons. Eventually, the volume will react to all of the pushing on the volume buttons and will give an extremely loud or quiet volume. These are minor and you learn to adapt. My complaint is that my truck comes with receiver to tow trailers or boat, but is pre-wired for the trailer lights. When I asked for the wiring kit, it was $266 at thdealer. Really Honda? Update: I bought the trailer wiring kit for $200 and installed it. If you plan to install yourself, download the instructions to see if you want to take it on. It wasn't an easy task. You have to remove the rear seats, remove covers, and remove the trim by the side air bag to access the brake controls. A special rivet nut tool is needed to mount the 7 pin socket/harness.

I drive lots of highway miles and side roads this is my favorite vehicle that I have ever driven. It drives like an SUV but has the power and space of a truck. The tailgate and trunk is one of my favorite features. People complain about the radio but I like the radio have no complaints there. The only down side is the rear doors don't open as wide as you would like but that can be changed by switching out doors stops if you would like to.

We actually looked at and drove an RTL (very nice), but we decided that we wanted some of the features on the RTL-E (adaptive cruise control, lane assist, blind spot warning, collision braking). Apparently everyone else likes them too! Sales people have told me these are literally sold as soon as a VIN is assigned *before it is built*! Sales people kept trying to get me to buy the RTL (which they sometimes had available sporadically), but if I'm going to pay that much for a car I want it to be what I want, not what I might settle for. (Also, don't expect them to give any discount, even through Edmunds.)

The 2017 design is much improved over the earlier Ridgelines. So far, highway gas mileage is better than 30 mpg. However, city mileage is around 16.5 mpg. Overall the average mpg meets the sticker numbers. The big improvement is how quiet this truck is! I love it. The RTL-E is really loaded with goodies, with excellent safety improvements. Really glad I bought one. Not crazy about the turning radius - hard to pull in to a lot of parking spots without backing up to get centered. The original horn was so anemic so I got another one installed - a two-town real truck horn instead of a "meep, meep" kind of noise. I wish the back doors would open even 3" wider. I'm averaging 21.3 mpg overall, which is a big plus. I have gotten a number of compliments on the truck. I am really enjoying this truck.

If you go for the top edition which is the black edition, you will be happy at how it looks like a truck and acts like a truck be has a very suv feel to it. Its all wheel drive and at least 4 traction options. they there is the d4 option adds more capability to the truck. I also like the lighting, parking assist, blind spot asist, lane keeping assist, full voice control of audio and climate control and navigation and phone calls. I do not have to do anything. Hands free finally. I have had Jags, and tundra and jeep commander, bmw and I was shocked to get all this for less than a 3 series BMW. the truck bed is fully protected with a liner. You will never go back. To anything else.

P/U's have been redefined and the Ridgeline is no exception. Its not a work truck, but it is a great utility vehicle thats comfortable to drive 7 days a week, including long trips. It doesn't lack for power, quite inside and a good deal of overall storage Update: After owning it for 36K miles I am completely satisfied and would not deter others from owning it.

Dealer wrapped a tonneau cover into my purchase which would have been great if the tailgate locked. I carry items that do not fit into the trunk and must be locked. My salesman assured me the tailgate would lock. not so. We are working on a fix. Other than that I love this truck. I call it a cluck for chick truck or car truck. The mirrors do not retract by power. 2 complaints which honda could easily fix for probably not that much money and it would be perfect. I am coming from a bmw and this truck is much more clever and solid. It is an outstanding vehicle.

Know exactly what you want as far as infotainment options; as they are different on every level. I'm a Silverado old-school guy, so the RTL is perfect for me. However, some options that are desirable (i.e.) XM radio and/or CD player, you will be forced to go up 1 level just for that. Leather seats are much more comfortable than the cloth. Drive train and layout are the same on all. I was impressed enough to give up my newer Silverado for this more manageable and comfortable truck. Access to the bed on 3 sides is unmatched. I have driven a UPS truck for 23 yeas, so I know what a rough ride is. 5k towing is adequate for my Harley. If you desire a full size bed or want to pull a house off its foundation, This isn't your truck. The Ridgeline is a combo of luxury car with a bed that fits 4x8 plywood. Was never a big fan of the previous models. This one caught my eye. Fun to drive and no ladder needed to enter the cab or bed. 4 wheel independent suspension and the AWD system are very refined. Visibility is very good. The icing on the cake is being designed, manufactured, and built in Alabama. Gm trucks contain at least 40% parts made south of the border as stated on the door sticker. I am happier keeping those folks in Alabama working an earning a living.

This truck has great handling and ride. The interior ergonomics are great and the center console is huge. The cup holders are annoying since anything that doesn't fit perfectly rattles like hell. i love the in bed trunk. I have been averaging 19mpg with a mix of CA highways and city driving. Right from the start i had 2 annoying rattles coming from the dash area which originates from inside the dash where i cannot reach. The rattle comes and goes with the fluctuation of temperatures. After 1000 miles my truck has developed 2 loud pops or bangs from the front when i am in reverse with the wheel turned(parking in reverse). After around 3000 miles my transmission developed a faint '1-click' under light acceleration in 4th gear. At 5000 miles that faint click has become noticeably louder and now occurs in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear. Along with the clicking the truck has developed very aggressive engine braking while low speed coasting or decelerating to a stop. This is a new car owners nightmare. It seems this truck was assembled on a weekend. I have never had a vehicle with this many problems from the get go. I have done some research and it seems although Honda is recently getting a bad rap for its 9 speed transmission, it has consistently had issues with transmissions in general. Also its JD reliability has dropped out of top 10 when in the past it was always top 3 or so. Be careful future buyers.

2017 Ridgeline; vibration issues due to poor VCM

I have the RTL-T front wheel drive. It is a nice truck, but I started off out the dealership with vibration issues. We fixed several noise issues along the way to figuring out that the truck has an issue with a poor design in the valve control management system (I say this; Honda says it is a feature of the truck). It has been a year now (10k miles) and all I have is a case number with Honda. I also feel the vibration sometimes during normal driving at low speeds, but it really shows up in cruise control. If you test drive one, make sure you find a road with inclines and declines and engage the cruise control. Do this for many miles to make sure your model doesn't do this. I test drove an all wheel model for comparison and the issue was not there. All in all, I like my truck as long as I don't use cruise control; when I do use it, I regret buying it. 7/21/2020 Update: When I took my truck to the dealer for the 3rd year state inspection, I had a long talk with the service manager about the vibration issue while using cruise control (again) and he had it checked out. They concluded that something was wrong (3 years later) and Honda had a software patch for it. They installed the software patch and it took care of the issue (at least made it better) I am glad that it took care of the issue, but to wait 3 years to fix an obvious issue is not good customer service. The truck, now, is as expected when purchased in 2016 and it is good Honda quality. 7/2022 update: At around 75k miles, started getting a warning for an emissions issue. After several months of it coming up then resetting I took it to the dealership. Needed fuel injectors and cad converter. Extended warranty paid off. The repairs eliminated completely the previous vibration issues I had become used to and I even use cruse control all the time now. Seems like my original vibration issue was defective fuel injectors but I doubt Honda will ever connect the dots… Runs the best it ever had and I’m currently at 85k miles. After 5 years, I am finally completely satisfied with my truck; it’s great!

The 2017 Ridgeline has nice engineered features , but many aspects are very poor . Ride and handling , as well as performance for what it is are good . Materials are very cheap , poor quality on seats and interior trim . The plastics used in this vehicle are not durable and the finish deteriorates quickly . The exterior trim plastic as well is cheap and fragile ... Less than a year old it has faded and begun to get chalky . Wheel well plastic trim is loose which will top dirt and rot out the panels quickly . Service department explanation was thats the way it is ... hmmm ... working on your own vehicle is a pain , oil filter is in worst position possible , drop anything at the front of engine compartment , say goodbye unless you want to spend hours removing shielding ! Fairly nice concept from Honda but poorly executed and with very little support from the aftermarket . The first impression from many will be to the positive but if you look at the details , it's not a good value ...MHO

I researched and test drove the Tacoma, Frontier, and the Colorado. The Ridgeline was hands-down the best truck for me. I am a contractor & this is my daily driver. I carry tools in the trunk, and three or four men to job sites every morning. There's always something in the bed. Honda could take a cue from Chevy and put a step in the rear bumper, as the bed is high to make room for the deep trunk. The truck is quick, smooth driving, quiet and comfortable. Payload is more than adequate for a midsize truck, and it tows 5000 pounds with ease. The trimline packaging limits configuration. I would like to have had the suite of safety features without some of the frills that came with higher trim levels. The bed is too high & shallow & I prefer my 1st gen Ridgeline. Still, it’s better than the competition for my purposes ( now retired) I sold the truck after owning it for only 18 months because of the shallow bed & the bed height, I needed more bed volume. Still, I would buy another Ridgeline.

This is our 3rd one and it's by far the best , they truly got it right. We test drove the new Chevy and GMC as well as the Toyota , quite frankly there is no comparison in the ride , handling or quietness that this truck provides. It truly presents the perfect combination of the practicality of a truck with the driving comfort and ease of a luxury vehicle. The redesign hit the mark and we could not be more pleased with the truck.

I was looking for a truck that offered the level of comfort and luxury of an upscale car or SUV, and the Ridgeline is totally it! It was a bit on the pricey side (though I did add almost $4,000 in add-ons), but when considering what I got for the price, I can't really complain. I'm still in awe of how smooth and unbelievably quiet a ride it is, which I tell friends is comparable to the Cadillac Sedan de Ville I used to drive on occasion for work. I'm not a fan of the built-in nav system, but since it has Apple Car Play I just use Apple Maps, which is much better (though not as good as Waze, which I wish could be used with Car Play). I also can't get the system to recognize ANY voice commands, but then again I rarely try since I'm not a fan of vocal commands anyway. But features like the two-way tailgate and especially the trunk are WAY cool and never fail to impress friends and other truck owners. I was also VERY pleasantly surprised by the acceleration and pick-up it has. I've only had the truck a few weeks so I can't comment on maintenance or reliability, but so far I'd say that it's the best new vehicle purchase I've ever made!

Great Ride

The unibody construction makes the ride and handling very smooth for a pickup truck. Not sure why some reviews focus on the audio system not having a knob to adjust the volume; I use the audio controls on the steering wheel to do this. The two way tailgate makes loading and unloading much easier than a conventional drop down tailgate. The Honda Sensing package includes lane departure warning, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control and warning of approaching traffic when backing out.

The truck is great. Very happy with our purchase. We have own it for 6 months. We didn’t have any problems until we had a deep freeze. The temperature outside was 20 degree. We went to fill the truck up with gas. We open the gas door . We tried to put the gas nozzle thru the flap and the flap was frozen shut. We called the dealership. They told us to purchase Lock deicer. We were afraid to use it. We used a small screwdriver to break up the ice. We are hoping that this isn’t going to be a problem in the future. The dealership said they had many calls about the same problem. We also are worried that water might be getting in the tank then from the build up of ice.
