Used 2022 Honda Pilot Consumer Reviews
Terrible
We got our 2022 pilot touring dec 2021. I want to love it but it has caused us nothing but grief. Flickering navigation screen from day one. It appears like it’s shorting out. Very annoying and should not be happening in a brand new vehicle. Secondly in the cold of winter 3 times went into limp mode turning onto a main highway. Limp mode meaning it loses all power and engine light starts blinking. Very dangerous and I’m lucky I didn’t get rear ended. Spent a month back in service. Navigation system not fixed and who knows what it will do again next winter when it’s cold again. I don’t feel safe or trust this car in winter…which is half the year in alberta!

Powertrain warranty
Is the oil pressure switch covered under the powertrain warranty? 39K miles already had to pay for transmission fluid flush at 30K miles because it was kicking at low speed (not covered), now Emission System Problem, engine light on, dealer diagnosed a bad oil pressure switch but WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. UPDATE 08/25/2022 1 day after the dealer charged me to replace the oil pressure sensor, Emission System Problem showed up again, and now also Transmission System Problem is showing up, car started kicking up at 30MPH and panel flickering.

Mystery Problem = Safety Problem
We bought a 2022 Pilot Black Edition in July 2022. The ride, handling, and interior beats the Highlander and Explorer hands down. Then at Christmas . . . after stopping at a light on a highway, the vehicle struggled to accelerate past 25 mph and the steering wheel began violently shaking - with traffic pushing me from behind and honking at me. Check engine light was solid orange. Limped to the nearest gas station and shut it off for 10 minutes. Drove 20 miles home without incident. Honda dealer called it a "phantom misfire." Said they've had reports of 15 other V6 Hondas (including Passports and Odysseys) with the same problem. They said they found water in the intake manifold and think that may have caused it, but they are not sure. Less than 4 weeks later, it happened again at a busy intersection off an I-94 exit. Loss of power, violent shaking of the steering wheel at 20-25 mph. Brought it back to the dealer. They have no clue. The service manager thinks it may be related to cold weather. Other service tech said there was water in the intake manifold again. But they aren't sure. Mystery problem, with no known fix, and they are crossing their fingers for Honda Tech to figure out a fix. They nonchalantly tell us to keep driving it and simply pull over and stop/start whenever it happens on narrow hwys with traffic buzzing around us. Dealer offered to "help us" by buying it back for $20K less than what we paid for it 6 months ago. Hard pass. Does anyone else have this problem with Honda? I'm not finding much on Google re this issue, but if 15 other people reported the problem to my dealer, this has to be a relatively common problem with newer V6 Hondas. This was my 6th Honda in the past 30 years; I'll never buy one again.

Do not Trust Honda
TL;DR - Honda sold us a faulty (brand new) car. Within 2 months of purchase, the engine destroyed itself and the subsequent ‘repair’ work has caused new issues to arise. Honda is unreliable, unsafe, and unsupportive — they are blatantly disregarding our safety by refusing our request to replace the car. ___________________ On November 12, 2021 we purchased a brand new 2022 Honda Pilot at Hendrick Honda of Charlotte. Less than 2 months later, on December 30, 2021, the car dropped a valve 3 hours into a 7 hour road trip, destroying the engine, and stranding us in the dark and cold. We waited 7.5 hours only to hear that there was no timeframe for replacing the engine and weren’t able to pick up our car again for about 2 weeks. Honda, Hendrick Honda, and Roadside Assistance have not shown any care to rectify the situation. Honda’s mission states that they “are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality,” but they are not living up to this mission. This car has proven to be risky and faulty but Honda has refused to replace the car. My family and I are long-time, loyal Honda customers and expected better from Honda. We are disappointed, concerned, and ultimately regret our purchase and loyalty. We bought this car with the promise of reliability, safety, and quality but have received none of this. Honda should be accountable for replacing a faulty product. We call on them to prove that they really do care about their mission statement.

Technical issues
Had my car for 3 months, all lights on in dash, my trunk will not open. Got that fixed, technical issue. Now my blu-ray won't work. Have not brought it back yet. Having my trunk not opening was an inconvenience. Other then that it's great

Pilot software is a huge MISS
UPDATE- THREE YEARS Still hate the fact that the auto dimming headlights don't work below 45 MPH. Doubt I will buy my 8th pilot. This is my 7th Pilot and my last. I thought the auto dimming headlights would be a good feature, but I live in a small town where only one road has a speed limit greater than 40 MPH. Unfortunately the 2022 Pilot's auto dimming headlights DON'T WORK BELOW 45 MPH. What idiot thought that they wouldn't need them on dark back roads with 30mph speed limits. The adaptive cruise control is also horrible, it speeds up and then senses a car in front and slams you against the seatbelts as it slows down. The weird thing is that we also have a 2019 CRV and that software works great.

Not horrible, but expected better
I wanted the AWD Pilot, but settled for the FWD, Special Edition. I live in SC where the winter months aren't typically bad, but on occasion, they can be. This year is one of those. The 2022 Pilot has a snow mode, but no explanation as to what it does for the FWD models. I am severely disappointed in the performance of the Pilot in snow/slush/ice conditions. With and without snow mode engaged, I was not able to exit my neighborhood, with approximately 3" of snow. This was disappointing since RWD pickups were able to exit. Before anyone says I don't know how to drive in winter conditions, I am from the North and learned to drive in the snow. After I was able to get out a day later, the Pilot did not handle well on plowed/salted roads. I did not feel like I had the control that I'm accustomed to from other FWD vehicles. The paddle shifters are useless for controlling your speed on down slopes. If you gear down, when a certain speed is reached, it automatically upshifts. WHY? Other manufacturer's, with this function, allow it to stay in the low gear to help maintain control on downgrades. Another disappointment is how sensitive the sensors are for the forward collision system. If driving in the dark, the reflections of headlights off the road, from oncoming vehicles, will trigger the system, and the system is set at it's lowest sensitivity setting. The Pilot is comfortable and has a ton of cargo space, along with some nice options, but it's doubtful I will get another when my lease is up.

2022 Honda Pilot Black Edition - Ride in Style
Well it’s only been five days with the new car after trading in my 2017 Honda Pilot EXL. I’m appreciating (compared to my 2017 Pilot) the upgraded Honda sensing, improved graphic displays from backup camera, and gas saving features like auto stop. I’m slowly getting accustomed to new electronic gear shift (no more lever to move) as well as to all the LED lights the 2022 Pilot now have like headlights, turn signals, fog lights and so on. Family loves the spacious second row with all the cup holders, available usb outlets, window shade, panoramic moon roof and 110 volt outlet. I appreciate the car space obtained with third row folded down for my groceries and shopping cart.

New 2022 Honda Pilot Ex-L
We were looking to upgrade on our 2016 Honda CR-V SE. We wanted something with a little more cargo room, sunroof and leather and heated seats. I was always impressed with the smooth ride of the CRV and the Pilot provided the same experience. The Pilot also gave us the option of 3rd seating and close to double the cargo space.

2022 SE Wireless controller issues
Purchased my Pilot in October 2021and love it. However when it started getting cold out I noticed that my auto start wasn’t working nor was my ability to lock my doors with my key fob. Took it in to the dealership and they said that my wireless controller was dead and rye’s need to replace it. That was in January. Item is back ordered with “no eta”. I’m beyond frustrated and am considering trading it it. Sucks because it’s a sick ride.

Quality concerns...
We bought this vehicle back in early July. Picked this over a highlander due to the increase in space. That was the first thing I noticed before we purchased it. body panels were a little movable. My thought was ¨Eh, it must be a Japanese thing, our 2013 highlander did it too.¨ We were in the look of two cars and we are still looking for the other one. and while we were at the Toyota dealer the new highlanders did not have panels move like that. Honda must use a thin metal thought. but I was suspecting poorly made body panels. Anyways we purchased the car. It has power, probably too much power, and that's not really a complaint it has a great amount of power, good for towing and stuff. and with a 9-speed transmission, it gets good gas mileage. Here's where I started to suspect quality and cost-cutting. As I mentioned, some body panels like to move when pushed on. The next thing is that the SNOW button got stuck. it doesn't move and nothing sticky was spilled. its stuck on... also the other thing is that they used a cut-off relay for the ¨rear¨ window lock. But instead of locking just the kids... it locks the passenger window and the driver from rolling them down. some old technology that is really not used anymore because it is a direct relay cut-off. Another thing is the window motor. it seems weak. It acts like it is about a decade old. THE CAR IS NOT EVEN 4 MONTHS OLD!!!! Just a week ago we got a letter in the mail talking about a soft recall advisory for a blower motor going out. another quality concern on my part. And just a day ago the driver's seatbelt broke... THE SEATBELT!!! it's locked and won't come out. and now we have to drive all the way to the dealer 30 miles away and hope our warranty covers it as it only has 8000 miles on the odometer. I have a concern about the quality of this vehicle. I give it 3 stars for the ride quality and engine power. but in terms of reliability, it does not get a vote... Just get a Toyota... That 2013 highlander never had any problems at all, no check engine lights, no stuck buttons, and nothing reliably wrong with the vehicle. The only thing I can think is the questionable backseat comfort.

Happy driver
Comfortable and powerful V6 with lots of features and amenities, great for carrying people and stuff, Very happy with our Honda Pilot Touring 2022
My least reliable Honda.
I’ve had Hondas for years, mostly the Odyssey minivans. This is my first (and last) Pilot—and probably last Honda. Getting into the 3rd row is tough, and the ride back there requires a plastic bag in case you get sick—it is a rough ride. The car is also loud. The seals around the doors seem to be purely decorative as it sounds like the doors are either open or are about to while driving on the freeways. Maintenance is also a surprise, I’ve taken it it to 6 different dealers for oil changes and maintenance only to be charged for other services/fluid changes that are somehow required at a certain mileage point that I haven’t yet reached. Dealerships are also an issue when there is a problem. I had a mouse chew through some wires and Honda got to keep my car for 108 days. Before that, I had another issue where 3 different dealers gave me 3 different diagnoses, and none of them actually ended up being the problem (dealer 4 solved it). Lastly, the safety feature sensors are so sensitive that I actually feel less safe in the car.

Love it!
I drove a Honda CR-V for 8 years, but decided to get something bigger for traveling. Though I have only been driving it for a few days, I am not disappointed that I got it. It handles great, is quiet and very comfortable. There are many safety features on it that I had to learn to use, but because of that and the size I do feel safer. So far I have no complaints!

Unreliable faulty system
I purchased a 2022 Special Edition. The engine light came on at 7k miles. The service department noted a possible purge control valve but nothing was replaced. At my 15k mile service the tech found that the driveshaft needed to be replaced due to grease being everywhere. At a little over 18k the vehicle started glitching and would not crank. I immediately took it into Honda with video proof of how the system was flickering and not cranking. I was told that the tech could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and that my battery could have drained within 15 minutes of the car being in accessory mode. That was the most absurd thing to be told. Needless to say the car would crank fine for a few days then would glitch out again. Each time I recorded it. I took the car back to Honda. The vehicle glitched while in being checked into the service department. The representative witnessed it but the tech did not. They kept the car for a few days and called me to tell me that they couldn’t find anything wrong. Two days later the car shut off on me while I was on the road in a turn lane. I managed to get it to restart and drove it straight back to Honda. At this point the emissions system light was showing. This is a safety issue in my opinion with the car shutting off in the middle of the road. The transmission control module was replaced. I picked the car up on a Wednesday afternoon and took it back that Fri afternoon for the same reason. As of now, the dealership still has my vehicle. My car has less than 20k on it and they have had it for 10 days so far. I traded in a Toyota for this SUV because Honda had a reputation of being reliable, trustworthy, and maintaining their value. This has not been the case. This vehicle is not reliable and the value of it has decreased significantly.

I'm not sure if i like the lane assist, and they took away the camera when you turn the right blinker on. there is a blind spot alarm though.
Reliability, Comfort and Less Maintenance Cost SUV
First of all, be proud driving the Honda Pilot. It's heritage and reliability is way beyond Kia and Hyundai. Honda owns Acura, the top luxury segment of Honda. First thing I loved about the Honda Pilot is its quiet driving dynamics, I have the Special Edition AWD, and with its 9-speed transmission the shifting of gears is seamless not to mention the naturally aspirated V6 engine that produces 280HP. it can tow up to 5,000lbs. and is rated 5-stars by NHTSA for safety.I've had a Porsche Cayenne, Porsche Macan, a 2020 BMW X5, an Alfa Romeo Stelvio and a Maserati Levante but I sold them all out and bought this 2022 Honda Pilot. I not only saved money on my insurance, gas and maintenance cost but I resale value on the Honda Pilot is the leader in the market. No wonder even Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds have given it their top choice of 8.1 out of 10 on Consumer Report.

Drivers seat very uncomfortable
The drivers seat is so uncomfortable for me as I am 5’8”. My back is so sore since purchasing the Pilot. Almost unbearable. It feels awkward as it is and the handling is something to get use to. My Pilot is a special edition. The color is Sonic grey and the rims etc are blacked out. It looks nice it is just so uncomfortable. I had a Murano before the Pilot. I called the dealer, superior honda, at 200 miles and he will not be doing anything. I understand. I am so sad as it was my new car For the next several years. My plan was to buy a Toyota Highlander or another Murano and decided to go with Honda. So sad. I would drive anything over this.

Not good for families with babies or toddlers
If you put a car seat behind the driver seat you're always going to run into the issue of the seat moving back once you turn the car off. As it moves back it jams/presses against the babies car seat. Which can damage the leather on your car. Leaves a deep crease on the leather where it was pressing on tight against the car seat. If you position the seat more forward so that it does not touch the baby car seat. Then it will still switch positions automatically, sliding back into the car seat, once you turn the car off. Its suppose to make it more comfortable to get in and out of the car. But its a horrible feature for families with more than one car seat in the car. I have 2 car seats.

Great Vehicle
The Honda Pilot SE AWD is surprisingly economical on the highway, and drives extremely well. Edmunds was spot on when they stated that this model is the best value (or something to that extent); captains chairs and some of the other fancy bells and whistles are simply not worth the extra $ in my opinion. My only gripe is that it does not come with the front and back sensors, which is something I’ve grown accustomed to on my 2017 Accord; to some degree, the blind spot lights on the outside rear view mirrors make up for this.

Loving my new Honda Pilot Black Edition!
I absolutely love my new Honda Pilot Black Edition. I previously had a Honda Odyssey so I am familiar with Honda Vehicles. I absolutely love the Pilot. It is everything I want in a vehicle. It drives super smooth. It has plenty of seats for those trips with the kids. The body style is very stylish. I love the interior with the red accenting and red lighting. Very eye catching. Honda is my fav. Reliable and stylish. You can’t go wrong.

NO BLUETOOTH FOR APPLE CAR PLAY
Lower priced Hondas have a bluetooth connection for Apple Car Play. You can blue tooth the phone but not the car play features, you have to use a USA A to lighting connection. For a Pilot which the high end of the Honda Family, blue tooth car play should be included. I just rented a kia Sorrento (I like my Honda Pilot better and it annoyed me that it had bluetooth car play and my Honda does not.

Upgraded to a 2022 Touring
Upgraded to the 2022 Pilot Touring. Love the vehicle. It's much quieter than the 2016 Pilot we had. Plus it's loaded with all of the safety features our old Pilot didn't have. The second row captain seats give it a totally different look. If there is one thing I wish the car came with it would be wireless charging. Other than that I love this SUV.

What happened to Honda?
This is my second one and should have walked away. First one, body panels not aligned, welding slag on roof, fit and finish not what I remember of Honda. Second Honda has been in the shop 4 times with ck engine light. One time Dealer kept it for a month saying they're waiting on parts. Filed a case w/Honda....a joke. From my experience, NO More Honda!

Great, comfortable, affordable SUV
Decent gas/mileage, ok price $43,500 (through Costco car program), modern electronic bells & whistles, sun roof, big enough for 7 people (3 rows). Nice design. Quality (mechanical) might be barely below Toyota (98 vs 100) but design, comfort, electronic are above High Lander (100 vs. 95). To sum it up, great car!

Family car
I have only had my pilot for a week. However, my previous vehicle was a CRV. Obviously this is a larger vehicle, but with that I don’t feel like driving it was a huge change for me from my CRV. It has a very smooth ride. Even my kids said it feels more luxury and less like we are bouncing around in a sports utility vehicle. Yet it’s still sporty. Very responsive still so I don’t feel like I’m driving a behemoth down the road. My only gripe so far is the push button start. It seems to be particular about when it is pushed and when it will decide to start. What happens is it will tell me to push the break, which I am already doing. The break will feel like I’m pushing on a concrete footer but nothing happens. If I push really hard, almost lifting my myself off the seat then it will register that I’m pushing and then it will start. I called my dealer to report the issue and was told it’s a known issue, just push harder sometimes. Needless to say this seems odd. I never had this issue with my crv. I could jump in and push the button and be on my way. I have noticed it happens more on cold mornings and if I’m just jumping in to start my car. I’m going to do some more trial and error to see if there is any rhyme or reason to it.

The 2022 Honda Pilot is very similar to the 2016 that I had. A lot more safety features have been added, and the ability to adjust things to your liking rather than just a factory set. Love the vehicle.
