SCHNOOKERED AGAIN!
This is my second Odessey. I bought a 2006 LX new. Within the first five years it ran great. Then my electric driver's side sliding door quit working properly and started sticking. It happened to be as a terrible thunderstorm began while we were in the Walmart parking lot. The sliding door wouldn't shut as the torrential downpour came. I had my six-year-old seated there while this tornadic dark-sky storm hit. I immediately got out and attemped to manually close it as the entire door derailed and completely fell off in my arms. I attempted to put it back on somehow while getting drenched from head to toe and fearing that a tornado was soon to hit. I managed to hook the door back on enough to block the rain but it was quite inadequate to safely drive it home with my children and wife in the car. I took it to a local repair shop and he was able to remount the door and had to remove the power cable completely making the door only able to operate manually which was very difficult. Several months later we had the same issue with the other door. We toughed it out for several years and decided to trade it in for a 2016 Odessey. It's been running wonderfully until now. Here we are, 2021, and experiencing the same issue with the driver-side sliding door. The dealer wants $1400 to repair it and it's out of warranty. SCHNOOKERED AGAIN!

I love my mom mobile
My van has over 100,000 on it and we have had very few problems. We have changed the battery, tires, and spark plugs. We do give it regular service. I am not concerned to drive it anywhere. It's great in the rain because the hatch works like an umbrella. Two sliding doors made it great to hall the grandkids. We carry everything in this van such as large chairs, tables, wheelchairs, large food orders, the soccer team, and several large pieces of luggage. My only reason to sell this van would be to get a new Odyssey It's great for long trips because there is always room to bring home new treasures. I love my Odyssey This is my third one. Before this I drove a Dodge Caravan it was always in the garage and breaking down on the road.

I really like our LX! However .....
I would've liked an EX with power sliding doors, but I've spoken to enough owners who have had problems with the power mechanism. I didn't like the idea of spending $5000+ extra for the EX, then spending $2500-$3000 to have the doors repaired. That said, we occasionally have issues with the manual sliding door stays NOT staying - i.e., the doors won't stay latched open. Need to speak with our dealer service advisor.

Still happy in 2022 with our 2016
Van has been a great car. Versatile, comfortable, reliable. Just what you ask. No major problems. Had oil sensor bad but low cost fix just this year. Would like stronger brakes but certainly get the job done.

Engine died at 112k miles
Had to replace the engine at 112k miles (Leaky cylinder/low compression). Cost for used engine was $8k. The car was well-maintained. So much for Honda longevity.

Attainable Van-Go!
The 2016 Honda Odyssey is the utilitarian companion, dependable and practical, getting you where you need to go efficiently. A Van Gogh painting, on the other hand, is a celebration of human creativity and emotional depth, existing solely to move the spirit. One is grounded in reality, the other in transcendence.

38,000 mile review....it's ok
So our experience is a little different. We bought a new EX-L with Navigation in 2016 and drove it for a good part of 2016 until August of 2017 where we went overseas with the Military (had approximately 30,000 miles).....so sat with my parents for 2 years until we started driving again. I have to say a lot has changed obviously in the last 2 years since we last drove it. Many different updates to the 2016 so won't go into that. I would say the overall driving experience of the Honda is "ok"....nothing spectacular like driving our new 2020 Toyota Hybrid Highlander. That is a very nice ride but the Honda drives smooth for the most part on long trips. My wife loves the sliding doors for ease of in and out for the kids and of course the seating and storage is great. My concern is the gas consumption, especially since we live in California. Even though gas is currently cheap due to COVID-19 etc...it's a volatile market and will likely see gas prices soar again. You would think Honda or Toyota would at least have a Hybrid by now or in the making (maybe it's happening but haven't heard). Even better would be a plug in electric Hybrid or all electric minivan! Now I would be interested!! Getting a minivan with improved efficiency would be great as my wife with transporting the kids around town gets probably 18-20 mpg. It is expensive filling up every other week at about $70 (again California)...... As mentioned above, the space and cabin rides well. I do have concerns with the speed etc. When I step on the gas it seems to lag or take a few seconds to respond. I had a major tune up and is still not performing to what I would expect the engine/V-6 so sluggish. As others have mentioned, AWD option should be a must and surprised now in 2020 it is still not available. I would probably look at the Toyota Sienna. So to summarize, its an ok vehicle and gets the job done for us but I would definitely like to trade in and look for another fuel efficient vehicle.
