My recent purchase of a 2014 Honda Accord EXL-V6 was my first for this make and probably my last. The car has the most value per dollar of any others we looked at including Avalon, Lexus 350kRX, Altima, Chevy Impala, Ford models, Infiniti G-37 and Q50. Interior and exterior design is first class, controls are easy to use, very roomy interior and comfortable seating, large trunk space, etc. And the ride is like a dream...a very, very, bad dream. Whoever decided that family sedans should have a sport or firm suspension system need to have his head examined. Unless the streets and highways are new and exceptionally smooth, the ride almost shakes the fillings out of my teeth. Vehicle was traded for a 2015 Lexus RX.

Second 2014 Honda Accord

2014 Honda Accord EX 2dr Coupe (2.4L 4cyl CVT)
3 of 7 people found this review helpful

Last September I purchased a 2014 Honda Accord Sedan and last week I traded it in for a 2014 Honda Accord Coupe EX in Still Midnight Pearl. I loved the sedan but I wanted something a little sportier. The coupe does handle better than the sedan and there are a few features that I really like. The color of the car is magnificent in Midnight Still Pearl. Yes, I lost some money during my trade in, but it was well worth it to get the coupe. Obviously, I think very highly of the Accord to get another one. This coupe is my 5th Honda. I have owned a 1990 Civic, a 1997 Civic, a 2002 Accord, a 2014 Accord Sedan, and now a 2014 Accord Coupe.

Check Engine Light on every 750miles.

First I should say my wife and I are pretty happy with the car. The fuel economy, standard features, overall performance are great for the price range. However the check engine light comes on about every 750 miles for a "evap canister" that is plugged. The dealership always says it is because I drive gravel roads. Well my house is 1.25 miles off of pavement. So I drive 2.5 miles of gravel each day. That in my opinion is a design flaw. So if you lived more rural than me...become friends with your honda service manager.

The "Eco Mode" can save gas, particularly on the open road. Don't use it in town. It strangles acceleration too much. If you mash the gas pedal it will abruptly disengage and startle you with the abrupt acceleration. I've had it 2 years and the ride is very nice. The V6 gets 25 in town and 28-29 on the highway. This is my third Honda.

My Last Car Was A BMW

2014 Honda Accord EX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 6M)

Had the BMW for 13 years and loved the car, but the maintenance became an issue. Bought the 2014 Accord EX with 15,000 miles on it and have had it for 2 years now. Three road trips and daily use. Mileage on the road trips averaged 36...around town it's less as one would expect. The car is more of an appliance than something which elicits emotions one way or the other. That said, the longer I have this car the more I like it. The car has some pleasant surprises which were unexpected. Back up and the right turn cameras are very helpful. We hadn't experienced bluetooth before and like it a lot. Otherwise no real surprises. Things we like: Fit and finish is excellent. It's a bit spartan but everything is where it should be. Well designed and engineered in this respect. Good storage in the trunk and elsewhere. Carries two golf bags sideways which was a criterion. Large information screen for on-board functions. Love the two cameras. As a result, there are no blind spots. CVT transmission is great. I like the 'S' drive function to help brake going down some of the hills and mountains nearby. Bluetooth is a good thing...plays music from my phone, telephone is hands free, and the navigation system on my phone talks to us through the radio. The sound system is excellent...as good or better than the Bose in my daughter's car. Keyless entry and starting function is great. I've left my keys in the car while trying to lock it on several occasions, and it won't let me do so...which I appreciate. Hill stopper works great on the aforementioned hills and mountains. Like the indicator blinkers on the side mirrors Minor Minuses: Seats are a bit uncomfortable on long trips. Road noise. Acceleration is modest at best...but, at the end of the day, it does get up to speed without much fuss. The fold down rear seats don't fully recline. The trunk cavity into the passenger cabin is quite small. Would have preferred a darker seat color or, better, leather. Shows dirt and stains easily.

Accord Sport Tire noise

Mileage 0-10K Rotated tires. Started to hear rear tire noise. “Whop- Whop -Whop” 18K Contacted Honda. Refereed me to Firestone with consumer #. They gave me 2 new prorated tires 25 K Rotate and Balance 35 K Had bad flat on rear. Not fixable so buy 2 yokohamas from Discount tire 50K Rotate and balance. Noise from rear gets better when I rotate. But never goes away. 55K Take to Dealer. C/o rear tire noise. 4-way alignment done and rotation. Its barely out of alignment. Noise better? No? 59.8K 1/22/19 Buy 2 new Yokohama tires . Place on rear. Noise 80 % better. I think the other 20 % of noise is older tires now on front 59.8K 1/22/19 Get alignment. Completely in Alignment. Wheel Bearings checked and Normal. Stilled bummed I have a tire noise 60K Rear noise getting worse again. Best heard at 30-40 MPH. Not worse in turn. Louder w rear seat passengers 61K Tires rebalanced and Rotated rear tires to front(crossed). Result- noise moved to front 61.0K 2/11/19 Discount Tire replaced front Tires. Same type Yokohama 61.2K Front tire noise still present with brand new tires and I think is worse. 61.5 Take to dealer for opinion. Noisy tires are on front. They tell me my CVT is going out. I disagree and ask them to rotate tires. They disagree that the noise moves to rear. Will get 2nd opinion.

Good mileage in town or on highway. Great handling and responsive for 4 cyl. Road noise very pronounced at higher speeds on interstates especially on concrete pavement. It would be a No. 1 car if Honda could quiet it down. In fact the whole honda line including Acura have the same noise issues. Lucky for me one day before the warrantee expired my transmission seal started to leak. It was fixed free of charge. Had it occurred at a later time it would have cost me $1000-1500.

I picked up my Blue (I forget the original name for the color) Honda Accord Sport 3 days ago. I was coming from a 2006 Toyota Camry SE and wasn't looking to trade it in, but the dealer gave me a good sizeable amt on it. After getting in and driving it, its like a dream. The Bluetooth, The Ride, The Seats, The 18in Rims.....the whole Sport Package. And thanks to Big Star Honda in Houston for making the process so much earlier than I thought. I was more inclined to the Mazda 6 (I owned a 2004 Mazda 3, but ran into alot of issues) before considering the Honda, but with everyone in your family with a Honda with a proven record, it was a question of don't take a chance....just go for it.

This has been the best Honda I have owned, and I have had several since buying my first in 1987. I get the urge to get a new Honda, but hesitate to sell or trade this car because it is so good. We have other cars, so I drive this car weekly for trips under 50 miles. I will put it on the market soon, the next owner will get a used Honda but it will be the kind of used car anyone would search for. 2014 with 10,000 miles, garage kept, serviced regularly, just an excellent car. Call me.

6 Years In: So Far So Good! (Still true, but...)

Considered a VW Golf (2014) after doing a test drive since I found a dealership that sold both Hondas and VWs...very rare. The Golf was fast and really fun to drive, won't lie about that...but I'm a former VW owner (prior to 1998) and they are not without their issues. The salesman I spoke to on the lot worked the Honda side rather than VW, and he said the overall fit and finish of Honda vs. VW can't compare. With VW being German-made, any needed repairs are going to cost you twice as much as they otherwise would with a Honda. I'm no stranger to VW's and their quirks, usually which involved leaving me stranded at the most inconvenient of times, and I was over it. Since parting ways with my last VW, I've purchased (all new) a 1998 Honda Civic CX hatchback, a 2002 Honda Civic LX, a 2008 Honda Element LX (had major brake issues with this vehicle and sold it) and now own a 2014 Honda Accord LX. All previous vehicles have had manual transmissions...a preference developed after having an auto-trans Mazda 323, which forever turned me anti-Mazda...nothing but problems with that car, worse than anything one could conjure up when complaining about VWs. I've been VERY happy with my 2014 Accord LX. Gas mileage has been on the low end 28mpg with city driving, to as much as a whopping 43mpg when holding steady at 55mph, highways and driving conditions permitting. Much like many others have mentioned, the seating fabric/door fabric could be improved because it leaves a whitish sheen from leaning on it and/or stains easily on seats. The electronic adjustments could be more user friendly. I'm not an electronics person and don't care otherwise, but the system can be quirky. Mechanically, no complaints. Haven't been in for anything more than routine maintenance and a recall regarding the battery sensor. I'd advise changing out the factory tires as soon as you can, because you'll be replacing them by 20K miles anyway. Car is perfectly roomy for 5 adults...plenty of leg room in the rear seating. Trunk is roomy, but entry could be wider. I'm a massage therapist with a full-sized table that barely fits because the rear wheel wells cause space issues. A minor complaint, all things considered. I always buy LX Honda models because I don't care about all the extra frills on a car. The Accord is probably more car than I need, and with the body style changes in the latest Civics, when it comes time to purchase another car I'm considering a Civic. LISTEN UP, HONDA: KEEP A 4-DOOR HATCHBACK AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES, AS WELL AS OFFERING MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. The major change Honda needs to make is more lumbar support in ALL MODELS, from the Fit on up. Seems to be an issue across the board from consumers. Honda also needs to replace all halogen headlights with LEDs. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this vehicle to friends and family, and Hondas in general. Can't go wrong! Time to Update in 2020-- Everything I mentioned above, particularly the annoying fabric issue. Still a pleasure to drive/own this car, but I've found that I'm starting to get bored with Hondas in general. Much as I love my Accord, I'm afraid to even consider a CVT transmission, not only in Hondas but in multiple car brands. I'm a long way off from buying my next car since my Accord LX only has 62K miles, so we'll be together for another six years, minimum. My only MAJOR complaint in six years of ownership is the AC. Took a road trip during the summer of 2018, and sweated like a Tijuana whore the entire trip back to Florida. Thank god all it took to fix this was a can of recharge air, but that was annoying enough. I've owned four Hondas, and NOT ONE OF THEM ever had AC issues. When it comes down to buying again, much of what will factor my decision is a dealership's willingness to negotiate and give me the best price, in addition to doing my damnedest to try and find a vehicle that doesn't possess a CVT transmission. And for the love of God, Honda...get rid of the HRV and bring back the Element in the low $20K price range. You've overpriced your SUVs. The consumers deserve better.

Terrible Audio

This Honda Accord has a terrible audio system. It is junk. I did not realize how bad it was or else I would not have purchased the vehicle. I commute 90 minutes each day and the audio is important. The radio had excess static . There is no subwoofer. The speakers are tinny, muffled. When the sunroof is open and driving on the highway, I can't hear the sound! I don't understand why Honda would not offer a better system in such an expensive car without having to buy leather options. I would like Honda to offer a remedy to this problem in my current vehicle. If not, I will not buy another Honda again. (I had been a Toyota owner for 20 YEARS! Unfortunately, it may be my last.

DON'T BUY THIS CAR

This car rides like an old army jeep. If you are in the passenger seat, you will lose your false teeth if you hit a small bump. It seems they took a standard Accord and just cranked down the suspension as far as it would go thinking they would somehow make it perform like a BMW. Next, these crack engineers decided that anyone who purchased this car would not have the intelligence to make their own decisions, so they decide for you when they want to AUTOMATICALLY LOCK YOU OUT OF THE CAR. For example, if you come home from Costco with your car fully loaded and want to unload the trunk first, don't leave your keys in the car on the seat, because with the trunk open and while you are humping your groceries into the house, the car will decide to lock you out after 30 seconds. And, yes, I have contacted the dealer and read their 385 page manual written in 47 languages and there is no solution to this problem. And, let's say you are driving with your lights on during the day for extra protection against other drivers, who are sharing their attention with their smart phones, and you stop to let a passenger do some shopping while you wait for them with the engine off. You can do that, but keep a tow truck number close at hand, because the lights will not turn off and, of course, there is no warning since you did not open your door. This is a slam-bang, cheap imitation wannabe of a quality performance car, that will, unfortunately, last as long as any Honda and still hold its value. A nightmarish thought for sure.

2014 Honda Accord Sport Issues

I have had my 2014 Honda Accord Sport for 3 years now. The rear tires (Bridgestone Potenza RE97AS) starting cupping/wearing out unevenly at 30,000. Honda wouldn't cover under Warranty. Bought all new tires, same brand and type. Made sure to get an alignment done and rotate them with every oil change and/or every 4,000 miles. One year later with only 23,000 miles the tires are cupping again. I have heard multiple people complain about the rear tires prematurely wearing out. Had to buy all new tires again. This time I did not buy the Bridgestone Potenza tires. I went with a more family tire with more thickness and not the sporty look tires. They are called Bridgestone DriveGuard tires. Waiting on the Service Manager at Honda to call me back because I think it has something to do with either the shocks, suspension, shruts and or the wheel bearings. I have noticed that my car doesn't take bumps on the road well, even the slightest bumps. That's why I think its the car and not exactly the tires.

Was very reluctant to purchase another Honda Accord after having engine oil consumption issues with '09 EXL v6. Test drove 2013 Toyota Avalon and was not impressed. Wife loved the ride of the '14 Accord EXL-V6 so we decided to give Honda a second chance. So far, 10K miles, we love the ride and get average 32-34 mpg at 70-75 mph hwy. Just got 38 mpg in 200 mile stretch of North Carolina. Typically get 27-29 mpg combined. Ride is smooth and comfortable. Now the negative. At 7K miles, 1 qt oil low so I added 1 qt 0W20 synthetic. At 9K miles added another 1/2 qt. Maybe this will never pose a serious problem, but I am extremely irritated that we have to keep checking oil periodically!

My 4th Accord LX ('89, '96,'01; my fiancée had the 11 EX-L; my mom had a CR-V and now owns the '13 Odyssey)! Without trying to sound too unforgiving, Honda has finally lost my complete attention. This harsh review stems from two issues. Interiors cheaply built in general, need far better craftsmanship, durability & quality. Competitors, like VW offer way better feel, textures, and look (my 135 lb fiancee's '11 leather armrest & seat wore out torn by 40k; my '14 has a hole in driver floor mat from only 2500 miles, now big enough to fit an apple to a hole in the interior floor carpeting. Thankful, owning more than 30+ cars on none had this ever happened. Highly regret not getting a Passat :(

The road noise is so great in my $32,000 Honda Accord that my husband will not travel with me. I went to Winter Haven FL Honda dealer about the road noise when traveling above 60mph. In short.. They said I had to live with it because it was the nature of the car. My 2006 Honda Accord did not have this type of road noise. This review was written in 2013 ..... Now 2017... still living with road noise.

Ticking noise is driving me crazy!...still!

Have taken the car in at least 9 times (I stopped counting) for interior noises...in the dashboard, in the doors, in the glovebox. I now have to ride around with the glovebox open...that the only way to stop the ticking sound. Service dept can never replicate the noise so I'm stuck. Glovebox door closed - ticking sound; glovebox door open - ticking sound. You would think they could figure it out, but they can't. I plan to have them remove glovebox door and I'll try to fix on my own. Very nice car otherwise...but that's what I get for switching from Toyota. You spend $25000 on a car and have to drive around with glovebox open... Only 11000 miles at 14 months...because I hate to drive it. Feb 2016 update: the glovebox ticking noise is getting worse. Since the Honda dealership technicians (and service mgr.) claim they cannot hear the noise, there's no way they can fix it. They're very nice about it though. I've actually told them to remove the glove box door, but that seems to open up another can of worms. I think I'll end up going to an independent repair shop and have them remove the door...it's either that or I'll just have to drive around with an open glove box for the next three years. This is depressing... February 2017 update: Car is fine....EXCEPT for the glove box noise. Only maintenance to date has been four oil changes with tire rotations. Air (engine and cabin) filters changed once. I would really be pleased if I could resolve the rattling noise issue. Guess I should have expected this level of quality in a $25,000 vehicle. February 2018 update: Beginning to appreciate this vehicle on road trips. Two trips from Houston to Colorado...comfortable ride, road noise ain't too bad, excellent gas mileage, adequate power. And still totally adequate as a daily driver around town. Will get fluids changed (oil, brake, transmission, coolant) soon. Touch open button for trunk doesn't work...but other than that the vehicle is in excellent condition. Tires approaching 60,000 miles and still have decent treads. Still love the blindspot camera. Still believe this is an exceptional value for $24,000. Excellent basic, all-purpose vehicle.

I traded an Acura TL for this car and haven't looked back. The engine is wonderful (V-6) and very powerful. Not crazy about variable speed transmission. What really stands out, though, is the NAVI. It couldn't find the way with two hands and a flashlight. I've had 3 Acuras with NAVI and this 2014 Honda version is by far the worst. Hopefully the 2018 and the version by Garmin will be a lot better. I've had no repairs.

Very nice layout cockpit is very logical and instrumentation easy to see and read. Bluetooth works well for hf driving also streams pandora via app and controls on wheel for ease of use. Paddle shifters in sport mode fun to drive. Suspension is very nice and tight making ride enjoyable. Very quick acceleration car is lighter. Rear seats are far enough back that comfort and legroom for rear passengers are a plus. I averaged 33 mi per gallon on freeway commuting to Redwood City daily. Easy on the pocketbook. Trunk is spacious and rear seat folds down for long items. Make sure you get all weather mats and it's easy to keep clean. Seats are comfortable and cloth option holds up so well. A joy to drive. Steering ultra responsive and ride height is perfect. Usb charging ports and cup holders well designed. This year is the best looking style of any they have made in my opinion. Classic lines.

Car looks great, like new. Well maintained, always garaged. Reliable with approximately 26,000 miles driven. Gas mileage 26 - 35 mpg. Additional work; key fob batteries, new battery, interior air filter. Regular routine maintenance performed at Honda dealership. Update on June 15, 2022 // mileage at 29,000; ongoing maintenance at the dealer; no unusual repairs since the problem with the starter motor. All is well!

This is my 3rd Accord, purchased new and driven very conservatively, by a low mileage driver. Hondas in general have a great reputation because they are well priced and very dependable. This generation was engineered for fuel economy as a major goal, so it was slightly downsized and lightened from the previous generation. These are the areas where they made changes for gas mileage, the tires are low rolling resistance type and give less traction in the wet, the interior is less comfortable as they removed padding, and the change to 0w 20 weight oil means the car now consumes about 1/2 quart in 3,000 miles. (which is the new normal as far as I can see.) The one other annoyance is the rear brakes, that make a clicking noise upon initial use. This is also normal. With the popularity of SUV's overtaking regular cars, resale won't be as strong as they have been historically but if your buy and hold it for 7 years or more it is a non factor

This is my second Accord. I had a 99 EX sedan before this one - this one is a 2014 Sport Model. I bought it certified used from Penske Honda in Indianapolis with 35,000 miles on it. I just passed 70k recently. I haven't had any mechanical or reliability issues with it at all, which is what I expected. The only complains I have are pretty minor and are as follows. The ride quality is a bit stiff - the roads around here aren't great, and I feel every bit of that in this car. Second, the material they used for the seats shows every little bit of dirt, dust, and grime on them and they are very hard to clean. My fiancee also doesn't think the seats are very comfortable, but I'm OK with them. All in all, great car. I'm amazed at some of the stupid stuff people gripe about on here. Anyway, happy motoring!

I'd had no mechanical issues in the five years since I bought the car from Curry Honda in Atlanta other than a minor recall, and when I brought it in to the dealership for that, they found a bad bearing and replaced it under warranty. They also said I needed an alignment, and although I was dubious, I had them do it. Lo and behold, the car drove so much better after the alignment (the tire wear also bore out the need for the alignment). I was impressed. However, if I had it to decide again on the model, I'd go for the V6 rather than the CVT.

I have had my new Accord EX-L 4cyl for two weeks now and have been very happy with it. The car is roomy, well appointed and the fit and finish is excellent. The CVT that mimics a regular shifting transmission is excellent and the 4cyl has plenty of performance. On my first road trip, I averaged 41.7mpg going and 39.8mpg returning. Admittedly, that was driving @60mph, which for me is fast enough. At 70 years of age, I'm in no hurry to get somewhere...just getting there is enough. My only negative is the ride. UPDATE.....It's almost 4 years since my review on the Accord EX-L. Overall, I've found it to be an excellent vehicle and have never had any issues that required a visit to the dealer, other than regular oil changes. Now, the Accord lease has ended and was turned in. Someone got an excellent vehicle. While not bad, it is definitely on the sporty side. The amazing thing is that my insurance only went up .40 cents over my older car with the exact same coverage. Very happy here. Update: In my 2014 Honda Accord EX-L, I never had any service or mechanical issues. Put gas in it, change the oil and drive it. Love the CVT transmission and the way it mimics a 6 speed auto. The 4cyl engine is more than adequate as it provides great acceleration and passing abilities. IMO, the 6cyl, while being a wonderful engine, is overkill for the vast majority of people. Great car.

Everything I wanted - a coupe that rides like a sedan, trunk big enough for 3 golf bags, rear seat folds down to transport longer items, sun roof, seat warmers - love most everything except the paint is BAD - flakes off and chips easily, even in weird places (like around the rear window, inside the jams, etc.) If it weren't for the paint just breaking my heart every time I look at it, I would love this car. The factory rep from Honda was super nasty to me, and didn't even consider my claim. Not a good experience for my first brand-new car. I won't do it again. After 18 months, I traded this car in for a 2013 Accord Coupe. Same bells and whistles, better paint job, better payment.

This is the 4th new accord I have purchased. My first one faithfully served for 18 years and I am finishing my 7th year with my third. #2 got totaled at 12 years of age. The improvements in noise and fuel economy compared to the 8th generation is nothing short of astounding. Computer regularly shows 36 on the highway and averages overall about 29. The CVT with paddle shifters is really smooth in operation always having the correct ratio. I love clicking the negative paddle to increase the engine braking when going down hills and off ramps. Sport mode brings the engine to life for twisties. A manual will always be more fun but living in PDX metro area traffic is too frequent for it.

V6 Fun! Ok Mileage, Crappy Bluetooth Support

2014 Honda Accord EX-L V-6 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
0 of 0 people found this review helpful

Bought a pre-owned 2014 Honda Accord V6 EX-L last week. The good part: The car looks very stylish with LED elements, and the exterior design is timeless and future proof. The V6 acceleration is a lot of fun in a family sedan. Hwy MPG is quite impressive for a v6 at above 30mpg. The perforated leather seats are comfortable and the passenger space is very roomy. There is a lot of soft touch materials used at the right place. The active noise canceling works well for when engine speed is between 1000-3000rpm. | Now onto the quirks: Compared to 8th Gen honda accord which I owned, the storage area on the center console (below AC control), as well as under the arm rest has reduced significantly. The bluetooth works half the time, and when it stops working, you have to turn the car off to restore the BT functionality (it would not take calls or play music after it freezes). Gas mileage in city is always less than 20mpg. The automatic transmission also feels kinda jerky when accelerator is fully pressed. The power doesn't fully kick-in till 2-3 seconds later (after a couple jerks from down-shifting). Overall, I think it's a very fun family sedan to drive around with, but I just wish it can be refined better and iron out those software quirks.
