2022 Ford Transit Connect Passenger Wagon Review
Pros
- Compact size but still plenty practical
- Comprehensive suite of optional driver assist technology
- Available in a variety of configurations
Cons
- Engines don't have an overabundance of power
- Van life isn't for everyone
What's new
- The Transit Connect has no significant changes for 2022
- Part of the second Transit Connect generation introduced for 2014
Overview

The 2022 Transit Connect Passenger Wagon's main purpose is, you guessed it, to carry passengers. It's available with either six or seven seats and is more oriented to utility than a typical minivan such as the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna. It looks the part, too, with its boxy and upright profile. Compared to Ford's full-size Transit van, the Transit Connect is less expensive, easier to park and more fuel-efficient.

In our testing, we've found the Transit Connect lacks power, and it's not especially comfortable. So it's not a real alternative to regular family minivans, even if its lower price is tempting. But it drives surprisingly well, with tight handling and a small footprint that make it ideal in cities. If you are looking for a business-oriented small passenger shuttle, getting a Transit Connect makes sense, though we recommend also checking out the Mercedes-Benz Metris.
2022 Ford Transit Connect Passenger Wagon trim level differences
The 2022 Ford Transit Passenger Wagon is available in three trims: XL, XLT and Titanium. Base XL models come as standard with a 2.0-liter engine (162 horsepower, 144 lb-ft) or an optional 2.5-liter (169 hp, 171 lb-ft). The larger engine is standard on both the XLT and Titanium models.
Which Transit Connect Passenger Wagon trim does Edmunds recommend?
We recommend spending a little extra for the top-spec Titanium model. It comes with leather seats, alloy wheels, a premium sound system and other features that handily justify the price premium over the midgrade XLT model.
