Ford Tough
I bought this 4 door 4.0L 4x4 with 105k miles 3 years ago. After 170k I have had to replace the O2 sensors, alternator, steering column wiring, AC/Heat controls, power window switch, transfer case motor. The automatic hubs went out around 150k. The truck has never held an alignment. I have pulled more than 5,000 lbs with it and have put it through three years of heavy off road and on road abuse. It has been more reliable than I could have ever hoped it would be, I just wish I would have sold it at 150k. The rear doors are great for throwing small things in the back but the rear seats are not suitable for anyone over 8 years old. I would definitely buy another.
99' XLT Ranger 4x4
Good and some bad. Got the 4.0 V6 in a manual. Good engine, make the most of it with manual, and pull 20 mpg on highway which is only 2 mpg less than my old 2wd 4 cyl. Going on 60K, good engine no probs with drivetrain. Lots of little things have been a pain. Park brake got stuck in middle of summer, had to have it towed. Door ajar light always on, Now ABS light on. Off road package outstand, limmited slip is much better off-road, rarely have to use 4wd. good in snow, put weight in back though.
my ford has never let me down
I take my truck 4 wheeling and have actually made it into rougher terrain than trucks with lift kits and bigger tires. It wheels awesome.I also pull a camping trailer with it into the mountains and I have to say that the only thing that I would change is next time I purchase one,I will get the 4.0 liter. My 3.0 liter is excellent for wheeling but it would be nice to have a little more power pulling my trailer up hills going down the highway.I still would give this truck a two thumbs up.
3rd Ranger in a row!
3rd Ranger in 15 years. This the newest a '99 XLT Extended Cab, SB. Bought used w/ 92K at a local truck dealer. I love this truck, but the 3.0 does lack power and for such a small engine, and for that, the fuel economy stinks. It is built for a small truck however. I put new heavy duty leaf springs from JC Whitney, which lifted the rear and fixed the load droop, fixed up numerous minor wear/tear and tune up stuff (brakes, water pump, tires, plugs, shocks, etc.) At 145K, developed a lifter tick which 2/3 quart Marvel Mystery oil solved. Overall, I love it regartdless and will keep it until it dies, 'cause it's not worth enough to part with anyway!
evon's ride
overall the truck is great. i have had only one problem with the truck. it rides real smooth. the seats are comfortable (even on long rides). i would buy a ranger again....:)
