Reliable engine.
I bought this truck with 100,000 miles on it. It has over 189,000 on it now. I had to replace the clutch at 174,000. Alternator has be replaced. Front and rear leaf spring hangers replaced because of rust. Left shock absorber bracket replaced. One bolt that holds exhaust pipe to manifold is broken. On going problem with cargo light/center brake light leaking that has stained the headliner. Headliner sagging. Parking brake lever broken off. Transmission grinds going into reverse. Getting harder to shift. Just had to replace radiator. Right rocker panel rusted through at rear of cab. Still has original power steering pump, fuel pump, water pump, and master cylinder.

my ford ranger won’t die
my 1997 ford ranger has been in the family since i can remember. my cousin/uncle owned it in texas for quite a few years before selling it to my dad who had it in chicago for years. it’s always been a trip maker and we’ve never had to do any major repairs on it, from chicago to alabama, south dakota, florida/georgia and back multiple times. when my dad gave it to me it had at LEAST 225k miles. a few years ago i moved from chicago to miami, all i did to prepare for the trip was get an oil change. on the other hand my fiancé’s family owned 2010 fusion broke down once we got there. now the trucks over 250k and still running strong. the only bad thing? it’s super light and rwd so driving in snow is a huge mistake. was driving home from work once and without warning spun into a ditch. thankfully i know how to drive and was able to use the inertia to get myself out. for its age and worth it really is an amazing vehicle.

None
Truck runs rough up hills and power from a stand still. Little room for material more for fun. Not good for people to ride in the rear.
Great Truck
This has been an outstanding vehicle. We have put over 80,000 miles on it with absolutely no problems. The V6 engine is quite adequate for fast acceleration and for hauling large loads/trailers. The best selling small pick-up for a good reason.
Great and Horrible
Good ride. starts every time. steering good. interior nice. handles well. now for the bad stuff. Have had nothing but problems with 4 wheel drive. tough to get it to shift out of 4 wheel -since it was new! 5 trips to dealership were fruitless. tranny hangs up sometimes between gears. learned to live with it at 60,000. electrical problem solved at 30,000.
