4.0 V6 engine idle

Truck has been very good overall. One problem I have had since new is engine idles at 1500 rpm or higher for about 5 minutes until temp. guage comes up to normal operating temp. Took to dealer 2-3 times while in warranty and they refused to correct the problem! Have taken it to independent repair facility and they have not been able to fix it either. All of them say it is sealed up,and no adjustments can be made. Maybe true, but correct component could be replaced to fix the problem. The problem is amplified by the fact I live on a mountain and coming down it at half throttle can be exciting--especially in winter. Hard on brakes too.

129,000 on my Ranger to date. Other than basic maintenance items, the truck has been maintenance free. 2wd is horrible in snow as I anticipated even with 200 lbs of sand in bed. Gas mileage is a respectable 26mpg with the 4 cylinder engine. The truck is solid - no rattles or squeaks.

One owner;Good Ride (use 70lb sand bag in bed/3 for snow=4WD);Once you find a good seat position it's OK (heated/vibrating seat cushion-long rides);70,000K miles;Great paint-willow green (has purple metallic in it);front of stepside catches rocks/sand;Use rubber bedliner and leave long on all sides + tailgate rubber;Have removable kayak/lumber carrier on bed sides- doesn't allow cap/locking top;Bit notchey in shift;Very, very few minor probs;Dome light fixed w/switch;Regular oil changes;4cyl but wish for V6 at times;Only on 2nd set of tires;A/C bogs down engine however w/o A/C is worse;

I have 170,000 miles on my Ranger and only had to replace the clutch and water pump. It is a 4 cylinder and I used it to deliver pizza of several years. Great on gas and reliable. I love it!

I've had more Ford Ranger since mile 7 and it has been a trusty member of the family. It is the only car I own and I drive on average a hundred miles a day as a single working parent and rarely have to worry about "shiny" (as my daughter has named it).
