Will Never Buy Ford Again!

Sad, but the Focus really soured me on all Fords. What hasn't gone wrong on this car? Despite the recalls just since I've had it, the $2400 transmission put in at 70K, the extra $1000 it will take for MORE O2 sensors, fuel gauge sensor, etc. and the additional $1,000 I've put in since I've had it (if you add it all up, it's about what the trade in is worth), I've had it with this car. Once one thing goes, everything goes.

Don't buy it

Lets see. At 15,000 miles i had to get new brakes and throttle body. At 45,000 miles I already replaced the oxygen sensor twice. I had to replace the shocks twice. The air conditioner broke, the heat sometimes worked, the wipers sometimes worked. At 73,000 I had to replace the transmission. At 74,000 my brakes failed. (They wouldn't work at all).

Mixed feelings

I bought this car new. In the 3 years (27,500 mls) I've had it, it's been more trouble than my 10 yr old Honda (+200,000 mls). Things that should work for a certain amount of time don't. The latest is the rear power window. The mechanism failed and now needs to be replace. This is just 3 weeks AFTER the wrnty expired. I've also had to bring it back for recalls - wipers and backseat latch. The stereo was replace too. On the other hand it is fun to drive. I love all the cargo room with the back seat down. It's easy to manuever, and it has some zip to it. It's cute and good back seat leg room. Won't buy another, but remember you get what you pay for.

leasing our 2000 ford focus since may of 2000 has 27000 miles on it and has been in the shop more than I can say. We live in the northeast and every time it rains I find 6" of water on passager side floor have had rug replaced 5 times. Not to mention the numerous recalls. WE decided to change the o in FOCUS to another u BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT FORD DID WHEN THEN MADE THIS PIECE OF CRAP.

I bought the car in 2003 with 70000. I now has 282000 miles on it and still runs good. Original clutch and no major repairs of any kind. The only problems was front spring which was recall and some electrical harness issues due to salt spray. Other than this just wear and tear items normal with putting lots of miles on a car. I have looked at and rented the 2nd and 3rd Gen Focus and they just do not compare to how good the 1st Gen is.
