FX4 new model designation
Save your money and buy the FX4 all the features of a Lariat except 6 disc changer and leather seats and moon roof. Savings is about 3K. This vehicle is a winner. Had a 1998 Lariat, was happy with it,this truck is heads and shoulders above 03's. Extremely quiet and excellent ride. Highly recommned you check out if you are looking at XLT or Lariat, will not be disappointed.

New 2004 F150 FX4
By far, the best driving pickup...ever! I usually like the style side, however, since the bed space is essentially the same, I went with the step side. The step side is a much better looking truck. The cabin is compfortable, roomy, and quite. Power is deceiving, since the truck is so quite. The truck achieves its cruising speed surprisingly quickly and youll find yourself unconsciously over the speed limit objective in no time. All in all, if youre a Dodge or Chevy truck fan, once you drive the new ford, youll wish you had one.
So far so good
The two rear doorlets on the Regular Cab were the selling feature on this truck. Having the extra space behind the seats on a Regular Cab is great. You get the benefits of almost an extended cab (a place to put tools and groceries) without the length of an extended cab truck. Performance of the 4.6l is fine on the shortbed reg cab. I don't think it would be enough power for the 4x4 extended or super cabs. It is a quiet truck and rides very well on the highway. There are a few rattles on rough roads but nothing worse than most trucks. The assisted liftgate is good. The higher bed walls make it difficult to reach into the bed to get something.
Quality? Yeah Right
My truck only has 8,000 miles and I've had nothing but problems with it. Where do I start? It all started when the rear power-sliding window stopped working. It took 4 months for the dealership to get the part because it was on back order. That should have been the first clue that more problems were soon to come. Then power steering fluid started leaking from who knows where. After getting that fixed, the brake lights went out completely and the steering wheel started to shimmy when the brakes were applied. Turns out there was an electrical problem and the rotors needed to be resurfaced. If that's not enough, now the transmission is shifting rough. I'll never buy another Ford again.
