Bubba
I love my 1991 F150. My wife named him Bubba, quite appropriately. Runs great, was inexpensive, near perfect condition. Does everything my lifestyle commands. If I were to ever lose it, I would feel like my right arm was cut off.

Ford has what is takes
I bought this 91 F-150 about a year and a half ago with 166,000 miles on it. I have been so happy with it ever since. I live in Alaska and I'm out in the Bush (Wasilla/Willow) and I have done my fair share of off-roading with this truck, and it still runs and runs. I have not been too good to my truck but it has been very good to me. I now have over 177,800 miles on its powerful 300 inline 6. I don't even have a V8 and I'm loving the power that I get from this thing. It doesn't have the most HP in the world (145hp) but its torque is nice for a six cylinder (265 ft-lbs). I have never had the engine of transmisson rebuilt, or had any major work done. The owner before me also said he never had work done.

The rough road to hell...
We purchased this vehicle new to go with our new travel trailer and for our trips from AZ to MT. This does not pull as well with a manual transmission as it would have had we found one with an automatic tranny. With less than 2500 miles the transmission went out and since there were no rebuilds yet the mechanic had to do all the work himself. Caused by owner not tightening transmission fluid check thing tight enough! Then began the real issues. The ignition switch went out four times prior to our installing a manual starter button. This vehicle has has numerous body issues, little things like the bed becoming dis connected from the truck. We used this truck until 2005 for hauling wood and farm work after we felt it was not a good road vehicle any more. Then we gave it to my brother who had to put yet another transmission into it as well as rebuilding the front and rear ends. We did provide this vehicle with good maintenance and repairs as needed it just did not hold up well with having to use 4x4 on most days to get us back up the mountain. AND it does horrid in the snow!

Fun truck but a lemon
Great truck for hard road until about 40,000 miles; pin broke in engine and it had to be rebuilt. 60,000 miles, transmission had to be rebuilt; has a history of problems and after talking to many different owners, sellers, repair shops, the '91 F150 has a long history of major repairs. Transmission is too small for truck, which appears to be a history problem with Ford products. Universal joint had to be replaced at about 50,000, and so on. This truck was rarely used off road except to keep the 4x4 system lubed. Paint had heavy oxidation at about 20,000 miles; easily comes back with every buff or chemical oxidation removal.
My 91 Ford
My 1991 Ford F-150 has the 4.9L straight 6. It was given to me from my uncle with 85,000 miles on it. It now has 187,000. I have not changed the oil since i got it and it still runs very strong. I'm not too big on the transmissions on the 91 Ford since my reverse went out.
1991 F-150 Regular Cab
If you are mechanically inclined, it's a great work truck or even a low cost restoration project vehicle. Aging trucks need attention but DIY repairs are relatively cheap compared to new trucks and easy to work on. Not a lot of technical diagnostics needed. On the other hand, higher tech vehicles now have many safety enhanced features not found on older vehicles. But no emissions testing allows for upgrades and modifications without the worry of setting off the check engine light. Actually, new technology in fuel management many times results in better efficiency when upgrading. Finally, the Antique status, rarity and classic look evokes many a nostalgic memories. It feels good to drive something unique without spending an obscene amount of money to acquire it.
