Used 2021 Ford Explorer SUV Consumer Reviews
4x4 XLT Ford Explorer
I put 2,000 miles on it already and I haven't had no problems with mine. It drives great and wouldn't have any other vehicle. I love my 4x4 XLT

Multiple problems!!
I bought a 2021 Ford Explorer 11/2021. MULTIPLE problems come with it. Transmission jerks, Auto start/stop feature makes a thud and will jerk. Collision Assist function will randomly go off, Engine will grind or rattle, a burning smell, High oil pressure, and a loud ticking noise, which is constant, is just "normal" functions of the Ford Explorer. It has been in the shop 3 times for these issues because they aren't normal for any vehicle, except apperantly Ford. They ignore my emails and will answer phone calls but then direct me to email them, which they wont respond. I have had a terrible time with Ford. I may not have the nicest explorer but the explorer has many upgrades from just a normal XLT. Literally worst vehicle I have had and I had a 1998 Honda Accord with transmission problems (mainly occasional jerking when shifting, but will 300,000 miles). But my accord was still working better than this. I will never recommend a ford to anyone unless you want a vehicle to eventually break down and have constant problems.

2021 Explorer Timberline
Awesome car. I was worried about the 2.3. But it has plenty of power, and is nice in smooth with the Amsoil 5w30ss. No issues so far with the Explorer Timberline. IMO it's the best looking explorer to date and the Torsen rear differential works flawlessly!

Comfy, but noisy
The XLT with sports package looks great. The ride is comfortable but inside, it sounds like a 10 year old pickup when going down the road. The windows have to be let down equally in front and back if you don’t want a loud squealing sound as you ride along. A few tweaks could have been made be Ford to make this a much better and more impressive vehicle.

Great so Far
Now have about 17K miles in our first year and our Explorer has been flawless so far. Have made 2 cross country road trips and this car is born to travel. The ride is smooth and quiet on the highway, plenty of power, handles well, and very comfortable. Also had to drive in deep snow a couple times and the 4wd was awesome. As stated in other reviews, the interior has a bit of a cheap feel, but other than that, we feel we got a lot of room and capability for the money. UPDATE Now have 33K miles and this car is still flawless. Have not had to fix anything at all and still free of squeaks and rattles. Will often get 30+ mpg on the highway at 70 - 75. Couldn’t be happier with this vehicle. UPDATE Now have 49K miles. Had to replace a couple drivetrain seals at 35K. Ford covered it in the drivetrain warranty. No more leaks at the latest inspection. The larger USB connection used for CarPlay stopped working after the 35K warranty ended. Just switched to the smaller one and it works fine. No other problems. Car still runs great and still no squeaks or rattles. Have been running on 87 octane gas and it still has great mpg and great power when you need it. Still totally happy with this car. Now at 58,000 miles: No problems. Still running great. Took a road trip to CO from SC last summer with 2 dogs and a mountain of gear. Ran like a champ and mpg still 28-30 depending on conditions. Took some pretty rough and steep dirt back roads in the mountains and the 4wd was great. Still very happy with this vehicle.
