Snappy to drive

2019 AWD Escape Titanium which replaced a 2018 Escape. Safe and Smart package a welcomed option, especially the adaptive cruise control and collision warning. Lane guidance feature works great. Rear cross traffic alert extremely useful. This suv is fun to drive, acceleration is quick, especially in Sport mode. Front seats are very comfortable with many electric adjustments for both front seats. Trim is well done with no noticeable issues. Sync3 works great and is very responsive. Navigation system is accurate although updates should be available more than once a year. Headlights are very good on both low and high beams; auto high beam works great. This SUV is very quiet when driving. Start/stop technology is more annoying than useful with no noticeable mpg improvement. The sound system is exceptional with many settings available. SiriusXM system has never lost the signal. Visibility is very good and the backup camera is outstanding. I highly recommend this vehicle.

@ 5400 miles

@ 5400 miles the engine started going through coolant. Hi temp warning light on even on a cold start after sitting overnight. Vehicle towed to the selling dealer . Short block replaced. Problem sloved however this type of failure should not occur at 4 months old. The dealership was very accommodating providing a loner vehicle , the engine was on D99 backorder, repair time took 8 working days. Time will tell if this vehicle lasts a few years before trading out of it while maintaining brand loyalty.

2019 Ford Escape "S" 2.5 liter

Wayne, 09/19/2019
2019 Ford Escape S 4dr SUV (2.5L 4cyl 6A)
45 of 47 people found this review helpful

Drove the CRV, RAV4, and all the others. Escape S is thousands $$$ less than the competition. With the Ford incentives it's a no brainer. The 2.5 liter is refined and quiet with adequate power @ 169hp for a senior like myself. The radio with bluetooth with a backup camera are super easy to use with large easy to read logical displays. It easy for a senior to enter with large door openings and plenty of interior space with comfortable well supported seats for those long drives. Easy to park. Plenty of cargo room for luggage and groceries. I am pleased with the 22.7 mpg overall. I can't wait to see what the mpg will achieve on highway drives. I am impressed with the smooth quiet ride. The tires are a little noisy but still OK. I will replace them with quieter ones when they wear out. Under 19K a GREAT BARGAIN!

Not a Ford guy, until now

My very last test drive, after a year of research, was a Ford Escape in SEL trim. I had researched everything from Chevy Equinox to Toyota RAV4 and had eliminated all but the Escape and the Forester. Why did I choose the Escape? 1. Much sportier driving performance. Handling is superb and the 2.0 Liter EcoBoost gives me all the power I need for towing and my somewhat demanding daily commute. 2. Fit and finish were very good and the so-called outdated dash display is wonderfully easy to use and doesn't get washed out when the sun is behind you, or off to the side, like so many displays. 3. Storage space, especially with the seats down, is more that adequate to haul a new dishwasher or luggage for 5 people. There could be more cubbies in the dash, but overall, this is a first world problem. 4. Comfort. It took me a while to find the sweet spot, but with 3 driver memory, once I found it, the driver's seat fits me like a glove and I am very happy with the leather upholstery look and feel. Oh, and the heated seats also warm up your lower back! 5. Safety equipment and parking assist. While I may never use the latter, I really am impressed with the collision alert system, the adaptive cruise, and even the blind spot monitoring. While I believe that being aware and alert is primarily my responsibility, these I consider backup systems for when I fail to be diligent. 6. Couldn't stand the droning CVTs in most new CUVs. The Forester was nice and very appealing, but the handling, power and price of getting comparable features, like heated leather seats, was $5-$6,000 more because of the required trim packages. 7. AWD? I decided I didn't need it for the 3-4 days in the year it was useful for. I went for FWD and the factory towing package which will enable us to handle up to 3,500 lbs of camping trailer or boat hauling. Lastly, I am just very impressed with the quality of this vehicle and I really like the way it looks. I was convinced I should get one before the pickings got thin, what with the new model (with an EVT! ) coming out and the incentives that are available. I have absolutely no buyer's remorse over this purchase.

Get One Before They're Gone!

2019, Titanium 2.0 Turbo AWD Escape not on my radar screen until last year when I was shopping for a smaller car for stepson. He got the small car but there was a 2017 Escape that was just coming in from test drive I asked to drive it as I liked the look of it. Wow I really liked the sporty drive. Since that time I researched about 20 small SUV and drove 5 of them. I also learned that the Escape was originally the German Built KUGA brought to USA in 2013. Ford has been refining and improving this model for many years and it shows in drive and quality. I found some of the other best seller "perceived" high quality SUV's to be a disappointment in my driving experience and negative reviews by some owners were shocking. Edmunds calls out lack of interior quality, dated and dash, and poor fuel economy. I disagree. Quality looks good to me. I like the dash layout including cluster, radio and screen setup, and big well placed air vents to cool down quickly. I average 23mpg zipping around town including short off and on Frwy ramps. I haven't taken a road trip yet. If you compare that to any other AWD SUV in the same range of 245 HP that's about what you get. It's worth it to me to have the acceleration available when I need it. I find it is often safer to have the ability to speed up to merge or avoid a situation than just hope others avoid me. I mostly drive in regular mode but drop to sport mode on some Freeway ramps with the big circular entrance ramp and also if slogging in slow Freeway Traffic 40-55 to bring the RPM from 1200 to 1800-2000 for better response. Thankfully you can turn off the annoying stop/start "feature" that stops the engine at every stop light. It works, I just don't like it,and if you are trying to cool down or heat up the car you wont like it either. I have read that other vehicles don't allow you to turn it off. I understand the totally redesigned Escape comes out soon. I hope that all works out, but I'm glad I got mine and with the current BIG discounts off MSRP I don't believe you can get a better vehicle for the price or anything close to it that will cost many thousands more.

Winter is Coming...

When it came time to replace my wife's cute-ute, she had her heart set on the Escape already - she just loved the way it looked. Regardless, I asked that she make the rounds to make sure it was suitable and the best choice. The competition we lined up was the VW Tiguan, The Subaru Forester and the Honda CRV. In comparison, the Titanium package with the 2.0l ecotec turbo felt more powerful than all of them (especially the Forester). It steered, and handled as well as the VW. And was $10k cheaper than the Honda with a similar option load (although it did not have many of Ford's options even available). In MN, AWD is a must and options to ease the long winter are important. The heated seats and heated steering wheel were a favorite for my wife and not many vehicles in it's class had the heated wheel. The Sync3 is intuitive and easy to learn and a much nicer system than a lot of the others we drove. It drives and handles very precisely for a sport-ute. The brakes are right there and very strong. Having driven it for about 3 months now, my only gripes might be these: 1. The jury is still out on the start/stop system. I am not sure if it actually improves the MPG or if we like it that much. It is not THAT intrusive. Just a little weird when it shuts down and the engine and fan all go silent. 2. Even though it seemed big when we were driving it, the cargo bay behind the seats is on the smaller side for the ones we test drove. I would like it if it had a bit more room. The cabin feels roomy though, so maybe they sacrificed one for the other. 3. If you test drive the SE or SEL, you will notice the 1.5l turbo is not very strong. We would not even consider buying that version because of it. I highly recommending upgrading to the Titanium for the engine upgrade. If you can afford it, you will not regret it.

I have owned thirty cars in my life, never had one built this well. After two and a half years there has not been one single issue, not so much as a loose thread. It amazes me, just as solid as when I bought it, by the way it is a 2017 SE with the optional 2 liter engine and all wheel drive. The acceleration is great.

Bought my new Escape Titanium on September 7, 2019. This replaced our 2013 Subaru Crosstrek Limited. The Ford blows the Subaru away. The 245 HP is so nice to have. I really like how it can pass and merge like a sports car (ok not a Porsche) but it really has some power. A lot more than the Crosstrek. The interior is way more upscale and the ride is a lot more refined. I got mine with the Class II tow package and having the ability to tow 3,500 pounds is a nice extra to have. I have 10,210 miles on my Escape and I am averaging 24.6 mpg. This was a mix of 50% highway and 50% city. My Crosstrek average a little over 27 mpg. The sacrifice of 3 mpg is so well worth it when I compare the power, the handling, the interior, oh and did I mention all of the technology? There is a ton and it is really awesome. Love the Apple Car Play and the SYNC 3. Well I hope this review helps you make up your mind. It came down to the Escape and the Edge and in the end I felt the Escape was the better value for me. The Escape continues to perform well. It handled winter just fine here in New Hampshire. Looking forward to many more carefree miles. Update: 3-10-2021 the Escape still continues to impress. The remote start feature has sure come in handy for this past winter 20/21. Love having the steering wheel all toasty.

Had engine replaced at 32k, few weeks later had the flywheel replaced. Few weeks later started sputtering and turned off while backing up. Dealership kept it 3 days and found nothing. Took it home and got about 20 miles and started up again. Drove it. Cleared up after a week and behaved for 6 weeks. Last week started sputtering again and today turned off 8 times, 6 of those times were at at stop light. Nothing while moving.. yay. Took it to dealership, behaved the first trip out with the service manager. They took it out again and cut off. Saying may be an emissions problem. And may not be covered by warranty...I've got 43k on this car, 10k on the new engine.

Get the 2.0 engine as a necessity. It’s smooth, powerful, and quiet. We went with the Titanium since our last CRV was a Touring. Honda makes a great vehicle, but their “infotainment” systems just suck. My wife is primary driver on a 110 mile commute for her job and she loves the Sync 3 system. Gas mileage is not as good as the Honda, but she loves all the extra horses. We both think this is probably one of the best vehicles we have owned in 50 years of driving out of the 62 we have had in the driveway

I had to have a brand new engine put in at a little over 31k miles. Apparently, this is an ongoing issue that Ford refuses to address in the Escapes. I spent way too much money on this car to have to worry about engine problems. Lucky for me, it was still under warranty!

Update: my update stays basically the same. I've taken this car on many 200 mile plus trips this summer of 2023 and it's been great. My only complaint is the GPS the car came with takes you around about way to get places. It needs to be updated but the update is expensive. It's around $200. The car continues to be one of best we have ever owned. The rear reclining seats are a kid hit for trips. Quality of workmanship is excellent from cabin to engine and park assist is great! We have had a 2005 and then a 2011 Escape Limited. We loved both but the new white metallic Escape Titanium 4WD is the best. Quiet, smooth ride, lumbar support, power leather seats, parking assist are all amazing. Road handling, cornering, etc are excellent..one of our favs is heated steering wheel. Quality is wonderful. We drove a Mustang as our 2nd car and sold it and leased high end 2022 Kia Sportage. But the power in this Titanium can walk away from the Sportage and other cars with ease, handling and turning is excellent. Only drawback is design location of liftgate and of lamp buttons...too close together when you're driving and trying to turn fog lamps on.

I bought this vehicle new 2.5L FWD $17,300 plus ttl, for my son to hopefully get through high school and college with, the only option was the upgraded rims. He doesn't have his licenses yet, so all miles, except about 300, I have driven. At about 1,200 miles the front right axle shaft failed, bearing, less than a mile of warning, stopped at a red light, of course one of the worst in town at lunch, and no power what so ever, like it was in neutral, thought the transmission had failed. Pushed it out of the intersection, called the tow truck. I'm now at about 7,900 miles, no other issues. I like the vehicle, quick, sporty, easy to see out of and fun to drive.

This is a nice car and a great value as the last of the design. I would have given it a strong 5 but they eliminated a CD player and eliminated a standard port so one could even play a CD from a portable player. The MP3 options are NOT acceptable because of the difficulty in transferring CD content to an MP3 device. Another little problem is the delay in the ecoboost turbo engaging when shifting from the reverse gear to a forward gear. Otherwise, the car is a great value and the profit from its sale helps America instead of Japan, South Korea, Germany, etc. Heaven knows we taxpayers provide defense and many other amenities to those economies.

I purchased a 2019 Ford Escape last September. I really liked my 2013, but had 2 engines replaced in 60K miles. This time I purchased a Titanium. The engine is bigger and is supposed to be less likely to have the same issues. My only complaint about my 2019 is no CD player. I like to listen to Audio books. The salesman stated that people listen on their phones so the CD players weren't necessary. I disagree! I've tried to phone, but it's just no as convenient. I ended up buying an after market CD player I can use in my, but it seems like I'm having to go old school in my new car. How many of us used the Walkman in our old cars that didn't have CD players. It works well, but I'd prefer a built-in player.

This has been my worst Ford ever in 20 years (Ford Explorers, Escapes and Focus). Also worst service record ever (recall plus high maintenance costs even under warranty). Not going back to Ford Canada. They don't even provide a loaner for recall despite the fact the defect is dangerous. The gas consumption is terrible as is the transmission. The FWD produces poor traction and manoeuvrability. I can't get this car out of my driveway in snow without chains. Heating takes about 20 minutes to kick in, and the dashboard signage disintegrated within 2 years. The earlier Escape Hybrid AWD was a far better car.

Try the vehicle out for a few days and drive it for several hours at a time (most dealerships will let you borrow the vehicle if you ask). I'm 5'9" and 160 lbs. The vehicle is really uncomfortable for me. Each time I drive it I get leg and back cramps within minutes of driving. I've tried to adjust the seat every way possible and nothing works. It comes down to BAD design. My leg is forced into an un-natural position due to the way the console is designed. Rather than going straight from the front to the back seat area, the plastic bulges (convex) forcing the right leg to the left making for great discomfort. The seat also leans (angles) slightly from right to left at an uncomfortable degree and 3rd - its tilted from front to back forcing you to sit on an angle (bucket seat). I wish I would have test driven it and really paid attention to this because now I have a major problem on my hands with this major investment.

WORSE CAR EVER

Bought it in June...........was in shop for over 2 month putting in new engine. Everything on this car has been replaced. Has been in the shop 3 times since. Worse gas mileage ever. Wish Henry Ford could drive this pos for a week at these gas prices and car always in shop.

Good drive, but all features should be optional

I like many of the features that my 2019 SEL has, but some are huge annoyances, such as: 1. Can't manually control all interior lights. They stay on when the door is open whether you want them or not. You can't turn on all lights from the driver's seat. 2.Can't manually control all exterior lights. They stay on when the engine is running even if you turn the light switch to the off position. 3.The horn beeps twice whenever you open and close the driver's door while the engine is running. That is the most stupid feature ever! None of these features help me, but all of them adversely affect my camping and drive-in movie experiences. I probably wouldn't have bought the car if the salesman hadn't assured me that Ford provided a way to override these features....which turned out to be false information.

this vehicle is the most capable for climbing and agile on the beach. can cross streams with the average truck. 0-60 is great. cargo room and towing capacity is cheap, but this saves for off road trips. the vehicle's light weight is favorable on ice and snow, sand, rocks, and GAS. i dont see myself trading this vehicle in for a honda - strong build is too satisfying.

First new car purchase. Just passed 7000 miles after a year and a half. Drove out west into Montana and was quite surprised by the comfort and lack of road noise. Averaged 31.4 for the trip which was an added bonus. Still doesn't quite match up to my Tiguan which has been the best car I have ever owned. But, it's a close second. Now up to 13k on the Escape. Made a trip to Phoenix and up to Montana in October. Now averages 34 on a long drive. Hit a deer in Montana at 60 mph and got away with only a couple thousand dollars of damage. Which is plenty. I am still impressed with the comfortable ride and good mileage on a long drive.

Not roomy enough compared to the 2012 Hyundai Tuscon. Therefore we didn't go any further with checking out the vehicle Also there was not enough room in the back seats. We did not test drive because of the size. I just gave it 3 stars as I couldn't submit review without a star rating.

The only good thing about our experience at Kune Ford in Delevan is the sales person, Guy. He was great and I would love to go have a beer with him some night and get to know him better. The rest of the staff was rude, arrogant, and didn't want to talk or listen. It was their way or the highway, but then after all they were the ones with the car we wanted and they felt like they had the upper hand. They didn't and we walked. Sorry that Guy has to put up with them but we don't.

This is my third Ford Escape. I’ve had a 2004 that I still have w over 200,000 miles and is going strong. I had a 2015 Titanium that gave me no trouble it was u fortunately totaled, and I bought a new 2019 Ford Escape SEL last year brand new. I love escapes! They’re loaded with awesome safety features. They’re reliable, good horsepower (especially in sports mode) they’re overall a great, fun car with lots of space.

I love the size of my vehicle. I can haul quite a bit, like a bicycle or recyclables. Plenty of passenger space. I love the keyless entry and sunroof and power lift gate. 4 years and no problems.

Engine problems

I wanted to like this car. It drives smoothly and gets up to speed pretty quickly. However, there was a recall which lead to an engine replacement around 32k miles. Not more than a year later, I started seeing white smoke coming from the exhaust. The turbo needed to be replaced/fixed. A week later it starts doing it again, it turns out it's issues with the head gasket. That was fixed and here I am a year later, no warranty, and white smoke coming out again. The nonstop mechanical issues are awful. Also, the back seats are awkward and it's near impossible to fit a car seat properly.

I see others have had the same issue as me. Coolant leaking into the engine. I’ve had trouble for over 8 months now on a car with 38k miles. Got a brand new engine and thought all would be fine. Now, 3 months later the check engine light is on again. Without a car again. As soon as I get it back I am dumping it and going back to Hyundai or Kia or Honda or Toyota. No more American made cars for me. This has been a terrible experience.

Battery failed twice while under warranty. Local dealership does not have qualified service techs: they can't pinpoint problems, don't perform repairs correctly, take much too long (a week to replace a battery???), and charge way too much once the warranty has expired. Next time will consider VW (4 year warranty) or Hyundai/Kia (5 year warranty).

I love my car. I have a few complaints with it. The USB plug in the front area is in a terrible spot right behind the shifter. It’s very hard to plug a phone cord into it. It needs to be higher up and better accessible. The other issue is the wiring of the car. I’ve had over $10k in damage since March 2005 from squirrel damage. They’ve eaten most/all of my wiring upfront because the wiring is coated in soy. That’s a very unsafe material as eating the wiring can cause a fire. This has become a nuisance as well as VERY EXPENSIVE and TIME CONSUMING!!! I’m sure the design engineers can find another material to use on vehicles that won’t encourage animals to do so much damage. Something needs to be done on manufacturing vehicles!!!!!
