Bought this loaded XLT with leather for my wife. I call it the red rocket. Goes like stink. Just changed the original tires at 100000 km's. Still has the original brake shoes and pads, half worn only. Very agile and fun to drive. great gas mileage. Tons of leg and cargo room. Easy controls to reach on dash. Only complaint is the CD player is a pain to load while driving. Selecting a slot to put a CD in should not be an option. It should be automatic. Just bought an 06 LTD I like them so much. My Expedition is a tank and can travel over any terrain. This SUV is not meant for that. It's fun and looks cool and is practical for everyday use

I have enjoyed the ride, comfort and pleasure of owning this vehicle. It is all that I hoped it would be!

Crummy for a used vehicle

When I bought this it was 10 years old so I was not expecting much, but no matter how I look at it I am disappointed. Paint chipping and rusting is a serious issue on the exterior, the suspension is harsh, loudly clunking, and has been a money pit. I understand in buying used vehicles that there are fixes waiting to happen, but I didn't expect the magnitude that came with this thing! It may have been a nice vehicle when it was new but has not stood up to the test of time well. Other vehicles I've driven that gave me less issues than this were an 03' Ram 1500 dually, an 05' Mitsubishi Endeavor, and 07' Hyundai Entourage.

hard seats

I almost bought the Escape, but two things stopped me. 1. The front seats were as hard as a rock. VERY uncomfortable, like sitting on a wooden bench. Too bad, I really liked the way it drove and handled, it is also very sharp looking. Ford needs to redesign the front seating. 2. Great deals on Explorers right now, I am getting an Explorer (full size) for less than the Escape or Explorer Sport (which I drive now). Tommy Boy

premature brake wear and failure

Our Ford Escape has only 12200kms. On July 31 2003 we were involved in a collision where the brakes failed in a panic stop situation. Dealership would not check the brakes under warranty so we are now involved in a law suit to recover damages due to the fact that there were two other vehicles in the collision. Brakes were spongy and alot of brake residue left on the wheels. This vehicle is driven in normal city driving situations+
