my first Viper

The car is awsome. Deffinately not for everyone. I was a Corvette guy until I got into Vipers. Not the same vehicle at all. This is a race car with head lights. The new Vipers are even more fun to drive. If you are a race car driver buy a 1st or 2nd gen. All others buy a new style Viper....

If you want a heated steering wheel, seats, and such, buy a BMW or whatever. Mine has only 4k with intake, exhaust, and Paxton supercharging. I have four Corvettes of all years and my favorite to drive, by far, is the Viper. Top's down!

94 Viper

The 94 is truely a classic, but you can not find a clean one at the price Edmunds is listing. This car appreciates every year. The car is brute force, has exceptional handling, and has a noisy exhaust. If you are tall ( 6' or taller) you might have a problem driving it as the windshield is low. The mileage is good considering it has a V 10. I get as high as 26 mpg on the highway if I keep it down to 70, City is around 15. The windows clip into the doors and for about $4000, you can buy a hard top for it. Some cars are lowered so you have to watch out as the car's clearance would then be less than 3.5 " Tires cost about $450 to $500 a piece so you want to buy one with good tires

Is that a Viper

There are not many cars on the road that get the kind of attention the Dodge Viper receives. I have owned the car since late September of 2004 and have always gotten a wave, a smile, a thumbs up, a yell, a nod and the occassional reving of someone elses engine. Every once in a while a Viper fan will spin their head so far around that you'd swear it made a complete 360 turn. The car is a treat to drive. Not only is it one of the fastest production cars on the road but its fun to drive. The Gen I vipers handle like go carts as compared to the newer models which lack the "fun factor". This car is the best bang for the buck on the market. It is just as awesome today as it was in 1994.

Attention Getter

Owning this car is awesome if you want to have a real race car and get tons of attention. People of all ages love to see the car and do double takes and stare. How many Corvettes do you see daily and how many Vipers in a year? There simply is nothing that looks like a first generation Viper. Gas mileage is surprisingly good for a car with this much power, 22 hwy averaging 70 MPH. All the book values are way under priced as you will never see a Viper selling as low as they say, they are appreciating in value as the first generation becomes even rarer. Everyone asks: did you drive it last weekend, did you take it out from winter storage yet, hows the Viper?

The Ultimate Ride!

This has been my dream car since it was first introduced, and finally found one at the right price and took it home. This beauty is a beast, just total power once you press the pedal. Highly recommend for those who never owned a sport car, the torque is powerful! The roadster is the best as you can really let go in the wind, though I have a very cold AC, no need with the top off. Highly recommend to purchase an aftermarket hardtop and windows, as the soft top and zipper windows just don't cut it. As for attention getter, this is it, everywhere you go, people wants to see it, kids ask tons of questions and be prepared to get photgraph. It's the ultimate sportcar!!

This car is a blast to drive! Always gets looks and smiles. Do not buy this car if you are shy. Also, do not buy this car if you are an inexperienced driver. Tons of power and gobs of tourqe may be a handful if youre not used to it. This car is not friendly with bad weather. Do not reccomend driving in the rain. Stock top and side windows are not the best. Also be ready for every teenager in a Camaro or Mustang want to race(and a couple of adults in Porsches). The stock radio sounds like a tin can. I leave mine off and listen to the mucic of my 488 cube V-10. This is the most fun car Ive had - definitely a toy.

MAKE SURE YOU INSPECT THE CAR

My Viper is a Hennessy Venom 500 and was inspected by Road Ready Inspections of Phoenix, AZ. After the car was delivered, my mechanic informed me it would cost nearly $5000 to repair all of the items left OUT of the Road Ready inspection report. The vehicle inspection report was falsified, fraudulent and inaccurate. Road Ready will not guarantee any of their inspections. The only guarantee they make is to take your money and provide a report that isn't worth the paper it's written on. All the Vipers I looked at had leaking head gaskets and radiator issues, so when I found one that passed inspection, I purchased it. Turns out, this vehicle also had failed head gaskets, a rotten and rusted radiator, no working sound system, a shift lever that was NOT connected to the transmission and rusted bolts and washers. If there is a lesson to learn, the first one is don't ever hire Road Ready Inspections. You'll never know if the report is true or false as they won't stand behind the inspection results....good or bad. Second, ALL Gen 1 Vipers leak from the head gasket. It's a manufacturing issue. They used the wrong gaskets, so in less then 20,000 they start to leak coolant. Just plan on replacing all the upper gaskets. When purchased. I replaced all the upper gaskets, radiator and hoses, exhaust manifold with headers, painted/sealed the undercarriage with anti rust paint, replaced the cold air intake, and changed ALL the fluids. The work has not been completed, but I did drive it about 100 miles before taking it to my mechanic for a real inspection and fix. Once the car is complete, it will essentially be a new car as it has only 10,000 original miles. I'll have the racing stripes done and have it detailed. There should be no other major issues according the MY expert. I look forward to driving it on nice days.

Still a show-stopper after 10 years

After wanting one since I first laid eyes on it at age 12, I finally picked up my own last year. It's hard to imagine that simply buying a car can change your life, but own one of these for a little while and all of the sudden, the first question out of everyone's mouth is "did you bring the Viper? How's the Viper doing? Have the Viper out this weekend?" The performance is outrageous. Creature comforts are severely lacking, but you should have known that going in. This car isn't for everybody, but if you're a true muscle car enthusiast, it all makes perfect sense.

You should learn how to drive before you buy a viper. It can easily get away from anyone. The best car I ever owned, it's truly affordable for the average Joe. I call mine the poor man's Lamborghini, and I rether have a dodge viper anyway because it's so reliable. I'll never will have another corvette again, I'm so in love with this car and the crazy thing is I had it going on 4 years. I never had a car for that long.

Without a doubt one of the most fun cars ever built to drive. The interior ans options are cheap and basic, but you are too busy having fun to notice anything else besides the road.

One word sums it up: awesome!

It has tremendous load of torque that can be felt at every gear. Comfort level is better than expected. It gets very good gas mileage on highway (21 MPG) due to the overdrive 6th gear. Attract attention like no other cars on the road (except for the Murcielago). If you drive a car for so long and get used to it, you'll forget how good looking it was to you (that's why you buy it in the first place), and eventually get bored with it. That is not the case with the Viper. The attention it gets, from the time it starts rolling out of the garage until the time it arrives at the destination and parked, will assure you that you're driving one of a few best looking vehicles on the planet.

LOVE MY HENNESSY 500 VIPER

Always wanted a Viper since they first came out; however after reading the reviews, the car was simply not a fun car to drive with a lot of unknown issues; so I ended up with a Corvette....a more user friendly vehicle with creature comforts.. 26 years later, I got my Viper and this one had only 11.500 miles on it. I addressed the known issues, e.g. head gaskets leaking, along with a number of other upgrades such as a new cooling system, hoses, rear seals, etc. [non-permissible content removed]

the side pipes were the reason I bought a 95 since they stopped making them in 96... . the attention is ok, its not from cops or women (unfortunately) but other gear heads like myself.. the car is bullet proof but when something does break, it is expensive.. insurance is actually cheap since I'm 41 and its a 4th vehicle ($50/month full coverage).. the car grips and runs hard, 60 in 4 and 185 type numbers... it is a very hot car in traffic with heat from engine and side pipes.. and can get squirley in the rain till you learn how.
