Internal WATER pump INSIDE the 2.7 motor, BAD NEWS
I don't know what Dodge was thinking when they designed the 2.7 motor that goes in to the dodge intrepid. I believe there is also a 3.5, I don't know if it also shares the same crappy design. The water pump is built inside the motor so that when the water pump starts leaking, It leaks water into your engine oil. This is what happened to me and I did not know. The water pump was leaking as the oil floats on top of the water, So when I checked the oil there was no evidence of any water in the oil. I was driving the car down the road and the engine started squealing. I immediately shut the engine down and called for a tow true truck. I had to remove the upper fuel plenum, Power steering pump and bracket, Front radiator support, Front engine cover, Timing gears and chain just to get to the water pump. There may be some things that I have forgotten since I had to do this job in 2011. Unfortunately , it didn't save the motor and the car is now junk. The car had a beautiful interior nothing wrong with it but a crappy motor that costs a lot of money to replace a water pump if you do it on a maintenance basis with a mechanic shop. Luckily I am mechanically inclined to work on my own vehicles. I would never recommend a dodge intrepid to anyone because of this. Even though I was car repair literate, I did not know that there was an issue with this car because of the way that it was designed. Don't ever buy a car that has an internal water pump because it will leak straight into your oil and destroy your motor especially if you don't know a lot about cars. Find out everything you can about a car before you purchase it. Read all the reviews and all of the normal problems that they have before putting down that down.Payment on a car. You don't see that many dodge in trepid cars on the road, Probably because the majority of them had the 2.7 engine and they are sitting in some junkyard or someone's backyard somewhere because the engine is destroyed from having an internal water pump that leaked water down into your engine oil and destroyed the motor.

My 2004 Dodge Intrepid
A FAMILY SEDAN DISGUISED AS A SPORTS CAR. IT IS LOW TO THE GROUND--YOU SIT DOWN LOW WHEN YOU ENTER-BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT BY LOOKING AT THE EXTERIOR. HANDLES VERY WELL--IT'S A BIG CAR BUT DOESN'T FEEL THAT WAY-ALL IN ALL, IT'S FUN TO DRIVE AND IT LOOKS REALLY SHARP!!!!!!!
Dashtop reflection
To much reflection in windshield causing poor visibility.
UH oh Watch out
Well I bought this car as a used Rental car and I saved a bunch of money on it. I am not sure that this is going to catch up to me or not. I have over 26,000 miles on it now and its been a great car so far, there is a rattling type noise that just started happening towards the front of the car which I have no clue at all what the noise could be, but let me tell you that it is very annoying. I work for a CarMax dealership and we will not even sell a Dodge Intrepid when it has over 60,000 miles on it because as I was told that "they are junk once they get over the 60k mark".
worth the money
just wanted to give a litle feedback about my Intrepid. My car is pretty much a base model ES. although it does have all power options including seats and aluminum wheels. i am very pleased w/ the performance, comfort, and reliability of the vehicle. Very much worth the price. if your looking for a good, comfortable, roomy, and reliable vehicle, but dont wanna pay an arm and a leg...this is the car to buy!!
