Good Minivan Sport version
80,000 miles and still going strong. I do my own maintenance so the hardest thing to replace was the starter at 75K. It does eat front brake pads. Had to replace the tranny lines from the raditor. One brake hose started to fail and was replaced under warranty. Overall it takes a beating and keeps ticking. Battery replaced once. No major problems yet.
Maintenance is critical
Drives great and has great versatility for hauling the whole family around. Gas mileage is decent and has good power. 116K miles so far. Changed front strut towers (squeeking and thumping), front engine bearing seal (oil leak). Still have the original transmission (knock on wood). I'm careful about maintenance and it seems to have paid off so far. We just took a five thousand mile, three week road trip to the Grand Canyon and the car performed fabulously. Current problem is the dashboard indications go dead intermittently. Car still runs fine, but no speed indication, tachometer, etc. My mechanic says it's the "body module computer" and it's likely going to cost $700 to replace it
I love this van
This van has all the handling characteristics of a sedan but with a hugh interior. I love this van and always will. It has decent power but the most important feature is the way it handles on the highway. Don't get me wrong, in very high winds, you're going to get pushed but NOTHING like the Windstar. I recently drove a brand new Windstar and I was all over the highway. It's handling was much poorer than my Dodge. I highly recommend this vehicle.
Mechanical Problems
Every 20000 needs front brakes, every 30,000 it needs rotors, At 60,000 new transmission, At 75,000 new ac system, belts and pulleys all replaced and starter at 70,000. To top it all off it still is not paid for. Never buy again.
What a piece of junk!!!
My model is the Sport. In the 4 yrs that I've had this vehicle, I've had to replace the brakes (at 25,000 mi), replace battery TWO times, replace defective (Michelin)(tires caused steering wheel to shake & vibrate)-I was told by dealer there was a recall and to take them to a Michelin dealer who told me that they'd replace the tires but I had to pay a good amount for the replacement tires, van has developed oil leak that will cost $1,000 to repair, transmission needed repairing-- these are only a few of the problems I've had with it -- NEVER AGAIN!!!! No more Chrysler products for me.
173,000 miles and counting!
I love this van. No major problems other than replacing a few water pumps and the starter once and the A/C; otherwise, just routine maintenance. I have had absolutely no reliability problems until I hit 170,000 miles. Now I have occasional electrical problems that won't allow the car to start about once a month. So far the mechanic can't find the problem, but we're working on it. I want to see how far she goes! She may not be the flashiest or the most powerful minivan out there, but she has my admiration for her longevity and relatively problem-free service.
Candy Apple Red Money Pit!
We purchased our 1998 Grand Caravan with the K Package (towing) and followed the maintenance recommendations closely. We never towed anything, but the transmission cooler and better suspension is why I opted for this. At 140,000 miles I was reluctant to part with it, until I reviewed my spread sheet showing how much I have sunk into repairs. We had the extened warranty, which helped when the belt tensioner failed just under a year. The dealer had sold the policy to another company and I spent several hours finding out who would back the claim. Brakes were recurrant issue, needing repair or replacement. Seems the rotors don't hold up well. Then the computer failed, and you can only get refurbished ones now. My mechanic and two Dodge dealers couldn't fix the hesitation and engine miss problem. My wife was afraid to drive the van and purchased another car. I took the van to a fourth shop on the recommendation of a friend. They assessed the car as needing a new transmission, another computer, water pump was going, etc. They estimated about $7500 in needed repairs. This for a well maintained easily driven vehicle. This is not right, and after talking with many people and doing a lot of internet research, I recommend steering clear of Dodge and Chrysler products. The reliability continues to be an issue. As a bench mark, my '77 Chevy LUV had around 200,000 miles when I let it go, and I am still driving my reliable '87 Chevy S-10 Blazer with 265,000 miles. The repair bills were and are substantially less for these. I was raised to buy good equipment and take care of it and it will last. Unfortunately the good equipment element was lacking for the Caravan. I later noticed that Consumer Reports Magazine gave the Dodge Caravans an exceptionally poor rating over about a ten year period.

Good Van
We're a family of 4 and have not had any problems with our van (I've been shocked at what I've been reading in this comment area). We've put 95K miles on it, and have just started noticing a small oil leak. Can't say we've taken the best care of it either. Overall, this has been a very reliable car; I would purchase another one!
So far, So good!
We are at 108,000 miles and the van is still running well. Oil change every 3,000 miles and routine maintenance at the dealer every 30,000 miles. It has never left me stranded. There have been a few problems, but they were corrected at the dealer and there were no return trips for the same problem. I feel that all of the problems, except one, were just normal wear and tear items. We have been very happy with this van and a Dodge Grand Caravan will definitely be on the list when it is time for a replacement!
