Love It!!
I purchased this vehicle used and so far have nothing but good things to say. Drove 80 mi. back home from the dealer I purchased it from and yielded a surprising 19 mpg. (highway) with the 5.9 engine. Pretty good considering the other reviews I read. Although I didn't use the overhead computer (I calculated the mileage manually). City driving so far has been 13-15 mpg. I'm getting the mileage I expected (it is a SUV after all). Great comfort, great ride, good sounding radio, spacious and good looks.
Great
I have had this 02 Durango since Mar 03, and have put an average of 40000 miles a year on it. I currently have 100000 miles on it. I had one electrical problem with it, no other. It tows great, I am comfortable, but it is a little tight for my big frame. Overall, I love it. I get 17 mpg on avg, but only 9 when towing, which it does a great job of. I put a heavier duty susspension on the rear, which now it rides quite rough (rear hop), but it wasn't bad before I made the change

Great truck
One paint flaw and a transmission electric doo- hickey have been the only problems. This is my fifth Dodge. I really am a Dodge guy and this is one of their best. I am not too fond of the new body style though and will probably get a truck next. The gas mileage smokes the Ford and Chevy SUVs and it doesn't look like a big box. I tow a hybrid trailer on camping trips and am close to the GCWR and am very pleased with my performance. Get 9-13 mpg depending on terrain.
Love the Durango
Although I have low mileage on this truck, I think it is one of the best vehicles I have owned. Absolutely no initial defects, no trips to the dealer except for the ball joint recall. I tow a 3000 pound boat with the small V8 and have no problems. My only gripe is that I wish the rear glass opened. It's also hard to back up or turn sharply in 4wd on dry solid pavement. I hate the 2005 re-design. They killed the looks.
Excellant Vehicle
I found the Dodge Durango to be a very reliable vehicle. I enjoy its comfortable interior design. It's also alot of fun to drive.
We love this truck
We've taken 2 long trips with this truck and have no complaints. It's comfortable, quiet, and we get 20 mpg on the freeway (running semi-syn 5w-30 oil and a K&N air filter). Plenty of power, excellent handling, excellect 4WD capabilities, comfortable 3rd seat (more comfortable than my parents Yukon! and you don't have to pull it out!) We highly recommend this vehicle to all our friends with kids-- and without. I have no idea why anyone would get the Hemi, it has plenty of power for the frame size. A/C works very well, even when it's 110 out. Dodge really thought this one out. We've had 1 repair the whole time we owned it, it was not critical it just bugged me.
DeeDee Durango
My little DeeDee. I loved this truck, right up to the day my wife totalled it out last week. Great ride, great looks, very comfortable. We went across the country twice in it, and had a great time. On time, at 12,000 miles a solenoid in the trans went out. That was the only problem in over 60,000 miles. Good power, good towing vehicle. It sounded good too, and didn't have a Hemi. Just a little baby 4.7. I just a bought new one, although it's not as cool looking. My wife survived a 50 MPH accident in this truck, with NO injuries. Her lipstick was even still in place after the air bag hit her in face. She walked out just fine.
I Love This "Thing"
Since the first time I saw a Durango, I have always been intrigued by them. I finally bought one, and thus far I am very happy with it. I love that it is truck based, because I like to tow now and then. I also like the ability to drive through mud and snow. Love the fact it has a third row and makes a person feel as though they are in a tank. If you want a capable vehicle this is for you. If you just want a people hauler I suggest a mini-van or car based SUV, because this thing only gets about 13 mpg. Ride is pretty good.
Spacious but Unstable
The vehicle was handsome and got adequate fuel mileage. The driver's space was exceptionally well proportioned for taller drivers, but the bucket seat was crowded for wide shoulders. The vehicle handled poorly in marginal conditions (ice) and rolled over in a situation in which it should not have - a flat grass median at 45 mph. To Dodge's credit, although the airbag did not deploy and the vehicle was totalled, the driver's space was not impinged and neither a canine passenger secured in the cargo area suffered no injury.
Great SUV
I bought my Durango at auction a year ago and love it! I bought the one 5.9 V8 to pull my boat, and the power makes it feel like there's nothing in tow. If I buy another, I will be looking for 4 wheel anti-lock brakes standard, and more room in the backseat! There is plenty for the Driver and Passanger, but none behing them.
Love my Durango
I got this Durango after my car was totaled in a hailstorm. I am very pleased with it. It has plenty of power when needed and is just the right size for me. So far it hasn't given me any problems. I am not going to complain about the gas mileage because I knew what I was getting into when I got it.
100th Review
There is no option for a 2001 R/T for some reason but it's essentially the same as a 2002. For the last 6 years my R/T has been completely reliable. I have had general maintenence repairs, tires, wipers, new battery, driving lights (headlights are still original) etc. but other than the gas cap failing to keep negative pressure in the tank, I have had no repairs. The only reason I am getting rid of my Durango is because the gas mileage is horrible (avg. 11.3) and it's time to update. While trying to figure out what to sell my Durango for I noticed a lot of them have 100k+ up to 200,000 miles on them. The resale is not what I expected but definitely competetive with similar models.
Hot Dodge
This is it! The only way to travel in style and performance. the Durango came out and the auto industry blinked and gasped for air and said oh sh*t we need something like that. It is what all suv's should be like. Hand down the sweetest SUV out there!
Great SUV
Not one problem and I have had it 2 years
great off road truck
so far so good 14000 miles no problem.Brakes are starting to show ware.
IT's no Tahoew
I have had my Durango for a little over 7 months now. It is ok to drive although I miss my 99 Tahoe. The Durango is way under powered. But it gets me from here to there.
An Acceptable Vehicle
I had my Durango for sometime now had only 1 problem. The rear leaf springs. It was replaced and was under warrenty. Gas milage is poor. I thought with the 4.7 engine gas would be better then the 5.9. But I was wrong. Wish they could improve gas milage. But other then that the Durango is a great SUV.
explorer killer
i love to drive again
I love this SUV
I love this SUV, It has a great ride, plenty of room for my 3 kids and their friends, as well as all their stuff. I have the SLT Plus model, so I have some nice extras like heated leather seats and sharp accent coloring. I was never an SUV fan before, but I am now. This car handles like a dream.
Durango X Two
THis is the 2nd Durango I have purchased in the past 4 years. Compared to my 1999 Durango Slt, the 2002 Durango SXT is quieter, has better gas mileage (14/15 city and 17 Hwy) The overall comfort is great, for a person with severe backproblems this is a great car to get in and out of. The ride is smooth and it handles well. As usual with the Durango, it has lots of space for lugage and assorted items that you could not put in a regular or smaller SUV.
I'LL NEVER AGAIN BUY A DODGE !!!!!!!!
I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH THIS VEHICLE.. IT'S A LEMON ! THE DEALERSHIP ( SECURITY DODGE )AND CHRYSLER ARE NOT IN THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION BUSINESS. ONCE YOU BUY THE VEHICLE YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.A BUDDY OF MINE ALSO HAS A DURANGO BUT WITH A 318 CI AND ENGINE BLEW AT 34,000 MILES,DEALER GAVE HIM A HARD TIME REPLACING MOTOR TRYING TO SAY NOT UNDER WARRANTY.
great all around s.u.v.
THE DODGE DURANGO TO BE IS A GREAT S.U.V. THIS TRUCK IS GREAT FOR TOWING MY CAMPING TRIALER AND MY BOAT. IT'S FUN OFF-ROAD OR ON-ROAD. THE THIRD SEAT THAT FOLDS FLAT IS A GREAT FEATURE THAT FORD AND CHEVY COPIED FOR THE EXPLORER AND BLAZER. IF YOUR LOOK AT THE SIZE AND INTEIOR OF THE NEW FORD AND CHEVY YOU CAN SEE THECOPIED THE DODGE DURANGO DESIGN. THE NEW 4.7 POWER TECH V8 IS A GREAT MOTOR.
I'm a belever!
I have owned a lot of vehicles including Explorers and Blazers. I even work at a Ford dealership. I purchased my Durango last summer because I liked the agressive look of the Dodge and it had 3rd row seating, an option I was looking for. Since then I have put alot of miles on my Durango and I have to say I love the comfort and the design of the vehicle. I recently had to use the 4WD and it impressed me even more. The only bad thing I have to say about it is the fuel mileage is not all that great at about 15 mpg, but for all the other great great things about the vehicle. I can live with it.
Nice Truck
I just got it, so it's hard to give a fair review.... but so far I've put about 2500 miles on it with some off-road and it handles and rides well.
Dreamy Durango
I purchased the Durango because of it's body styling, power, and roominess. It offers tons of room for 5 adults and 1 car seat when the optional 3rd row is in position. Me and 6 of my friends took a road trip from VA to FL. It drove like a dream through mountainous terrain, rain, and snow for approx 2k miles. The only thing I dislike about the Durango is the "half" bench on the 3rd row of seats. It's not the most comfortable seat for 2k miles but for short distances it fills it's purpose. With a full sized 3rd row, this would be the absolute best vehicle anyone could buy This is the best vehicle! Bravo Dodge!
Loves the truck but hates the repairs
I love this vehicle for its looks and comfort on longer drives but it's constantly in the shop! After purchasing it I found out about all the down falls it has even though I looked for the negatives. When it gets to over 125,000 mi expect to have engine troubles soon after! Everyone I have met with one no matter how good they maintain theirs has had blown heads and needed new engines. Its great for getting through heavy snows but I have practically rebuilt the truck part by part since I bought it! No repair on it is cheap either. Even though I like the this vehicle if I could go back I would choose something else. I have put $1000s in repairs starting from a few months after purchasing it.
They have ruined the Durango!
WE own a 1999 durango and test drove a 2002. The 1999 is far better. It has a bigger engine 5.2 vs 4.7. Most of all, the AC in our 99 is far better to the 2002. In places like Phoenix AZ, Dallas Texas, Atlanta GA, ETC, the superior AC is very important!!!!!!!
Liking what I see
I fell in love with the Durango when they first came out. I have yet to buy one, though. I am planning a purchase in the next year or so, and am looking at the Durango and the Mercury Mountaineer. I keep leaning towards the Durango. I like the seating capacity and the look of it. This will be my first SUV purchase and am looking forward to it. I am also looking forward to the new, revamped version coming out next year!
