2022 Chevy Trax Review

The 2022 Chevrolet Trax is an extra-small crossover SUV that's the smallest — but not the most affordable vehicle — in Chevrolet's lineup. The price advantage goes to the Chevrolet Trailblazer, which is also an extra-small SUV. It's also a lot newer and, well, better.

The Trax came out for the 2015 model year and hasn't gotten a full redesign since. This year's Trax does get an upgraded engine that makes 155 horsepower, which is a bit more than last year's 138 hp. Unfortunately, 155 hp still isn't a whole lot, even by the standards of this pint-sized class, and the Trax also suffers from a choppy ride and a lack of cargo space. Overall, we think you'll be better off with the Trailblazer or other solid picks such as the Hyundai Kona, Kia Soul or Mazda CX-30.

The 2022 Chevrolet Trax is available in just two trim levels: LS and LT. For 2022, every Trax is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine (155 horsepower, 177 lb-ft). It's paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Selecting the all-wheel-drive system — optional for both trims — also replaces the rear drum brakes with disc brakes.
