Overall I have to say that I really enjoy the look and ride of this truck although I did have to replace the coil pack at about 66,000 (No big deal 250.00) other than that I really don't understand the other reviews about lack of power. The inline 5 plenty of power and if I put my foot down I can roast the rears all day long. Thanks for a good one Chevy!

376,000 miles and still running perfect

My '04 Colorado Z71 crew cab has 376,000 as of yesterday and looks like it did when I got it except for the cracks in the windshield. The rear end wore out and had all the stuff inside it replaced at 360,000 for $1800.00. Engine does not use any oil I use Amsoil in the engine transmission and rear end. I am going to replace the tires soon this will be the 3rd set this set of tires has almost 160,000 miles on them. If you want to stop cupping on the inside of your front tires have them align the front tires straight up and down and keep air pressure about 40-42 pounds.

Besides the archaic styling, I really love the truck (113k miles). For those that complain about the power/interior space; buy a full size. Plenty of pep for a compact truck. I've hauled a lot of weight in this girl and she doesn't mind it much. I bought the CO because the Dakota had a hungry V8, the Ranger is tiny and the Taco and Frontier were about 2k more, plain and simple. It drives like a small SUV; smooth and easy on the blacktop. With a decent pair of shoes it takes the KS mud and CO snow with ease. The mpgs are great for most pre gas hike vehicles, not just trucks, about 18 city at 6500 ft. If you need a layman's truck for the occasional moving day or trash haul, the Colorado is it

I recomend the 3.5L. The 4 cylinder not enough power.I'm getting 20 miles per gallon local driving.Great handling, tight suspension. In my opinion, after looking at fords and Chevys, this is the best truck in its class for the money.

I bought my Chevy Colorado in 2004 with 3 miles on it and now 7 years later have 116XXX and climbing, I have driven my truck like I stole it since the day I bought it. I have added a few performance things to the engine but have never done any major overhauls yet. Main thing with these trucks is to do the maintenance as scheduled, and they do have problems with the blower motors but that is an easy fix.

LOOKS & FEELS LIKE A FULL SIZE TRUCK. GREAT STYLING. SPACIOUS INTERIOR WITH VERY COMFORTABLE SEATS. GREAT BRAKES. AWSOME CD SOUND, RACK & PINION STEERING. 5SPEED TRANNY SHIFTS LIKE A SPORTS CAR. I-4 ENG IS QUITE POWERFUL (175HP). FANTASTIC GAS MILEAGE (I"M GETTING BETWEEN 26 & 27 MPG). I RECENTLY HAULED 10 SHEETS OF PLYWOOD ACROSS THE STATE & FOUND THE TAILGATE 55 DEGREE SELECTION WORKS QUITE WELL. YOU CAN PLACE FULL SHEETS OF PLYWOOD DOWN FLAT INSIDE OF BED.

Had my 2004 Colorado extended cab 2WD 5-speed manual truck for 14 years since it was new. It's a perfect truck for handling homeowner chores such as hauling mulch, lawn mowers, construction debris to the landfill. Haven't towed anything with it. It's been very reliable for a vehicle that was a brand new model when I bought it. Good gas mileage - 20 in town, about 26 highway, so close to the EPA estimates. I love the size - fits in the garage with room for my workbench. An extended cab full-size truck would not let me do that. It's comfortable with ample interior room with the extended cab. Forward-facing back seat worked when the kids were small, now the space behind the front seat is good for tools, groceries, etc. No adult should be required to sit back there. One maintenance complaint has been deposits on throttle body that have required cleaning twice to maintain performance, and I use name-brand gasoline. Overall, it's been a good choice for me.

I bought this truck new in 2004. I have had no real issues with it. One of the seat knobs broke (my fault) and it was recalled a couple of times, but I have had no electrical problems or engine problems. Some of the people on here amaze me - I mean, what do they want? Not a single manufacturer makes a vehicle that doesn't break. People seem to think that Toyotas are better because it says Toyota on it. Well, Toyota didn't stand behind the engine in my Tundra when it went bad. This Colorado has been the best truck I've owned.

Bought new in 2004 - Crew cab 4wd z71 with 4.10 rear. This truck has been used to haul wood, tow boats and tow a 3000 lbs camper as recent as this month. 220k miles. Rotors and drums were not changed until 200k. Brake pads lasting 100k. Father in-law has a 2006, same model, with 240k. Best truck I have ever owned, will be passing down for my kids to drive. It has been the definition of reliable. The amount of original parts still on this vehicle amazes me. Previous vehicles I have owned would not still have the original water pump, starter, alternator, wheel bearings at this point in their life. Still the original transmission, even with all of the towing.

Considering that my previous car was a 1996 Saturn SL with 202k miles, this was a definite step up. This is a nice size beginner truck that I got at a wonderful price. It handles and rides nicely. However, I have had numerous problems that required 1 minor engine rebuild and two half engine rebuilds. Yikes! Got another problem fixed today. GM threw an additional 75K Major Guard at me, so I am happy. My friend's 2K5 Nissan Frontier Crew is an overall nicer vehicle - it has the track system in the truck bed, better interior lighting, sunroof availability and more power. Mpg on Colorado is nice, though. I like my truck a lot, but if I "knew then what I know now", I wouldn't have bought it.

I bought this truck used in 2005 and wondered why it was in a Used car lot at less than 1 year old. All kinds of electrical problems such as door locks/power windows not working but then start working after 2 weeks to a month. Dealer couldn't figure out problem and replaced under warranty BCM that didn't seem to fix problem. Transmission is hit and miss and often searches for gear to shift with pedal all the way to floor. Replaced 2 parking brakes at less than 50K. Have had two instances where brakes failed to stop and only a pulating sensation could be felt on dry road. 4WD HI setting doesn't work even after dealer tried to fix it. Stalling problems including hwy speeds. Hood comes loose.

I bought my Colorado used with 29,000 miles on it, and the day I bought I started putting it to the test. I have been through some of the worst mudholes, the deepest snow, I drove right through a swamp once, and it goes right through it in 4wd. The only problem I ever had with it is the transmission mount sits really low and can get hung up on things. This is a great little truck for getting in and out the woods for hunting, or just playing around in the mud. There really isn't anything that I haven't put my Colorado through, and it still runs strong, and I haven't had to replace anything on it and it now has 110,000 miles in it.

I own a 2004 Chevy Colorado they are poorly engineered and use substandard parts quality. The Electrical system is a joke and I've replaced the electrical fan speed control relay and corresponding plug 3 times. Twice under factory warranty. Each time it’s close to starting a fire. 2 Year Second time @ 34,063 Miles Third time last weekend. $27 for the Resister, & $79 For the Power connection rip-off. The blower motor only lasted 2 Years, 30,897 miles. The engine thermostat never worked right form the factory. The CD player only lasted 20,000 miles. And won’t eject or play. If you plug in a trailer, with known good wiring, and blow fuses. the list goes on................

I have had one problem after another with this truck. Started with feeling an air leak in the doors/windows on passenger side, then the heater fan would squeek, then the windows needed new regulators, then it wouldn't start and would buck when trying to turn over, then the a/c needed serviced when it had never been used before. I was told that a Service Bulletin was issued regarding these problems. Now its difficult to start at times and shakes when it wont turn over. A new truck with less than 13,000 miles on it shouldn't have this many problems, nor should it have been in the shop 6 times in 9 months. Shame on GM/Chevrolet. I am taking this one to arbitration. What a disappointment!

I have the ZQ8 LS, with the optional 3.5L I5 cylinder. This is my first truck, by the way I am 18 years old. But before I purchased this vehicle, I did a lot of research and test drives. I love the great gas mileage, as well as looks and good performance. The truck handles well, and it is a plus for towing capacity as well. It is black, with a red bow tie, and that truck looks mean coming down the road. It has good interior volume, as well as OK styling. Although, a few things can be added in the cab to make it a bit more appealing. The fact that I chose the Colorado over many other vehicles in it's class is for the street looking body as well as rims. Well, black does add to its sexiness.

I was pretty pleased with my Colorado until recently. I purchased it new 2.5 years ago. Great ride. Great gas mileage. Good in the snow. The starter had to be replaced after 6 months. My check engine light recently came on. Took it to the dealership. They tell me a cylinder needs replaced. $3,000+. Whoa! Of course the warranty has expired too. This shouldn't happen. The truck isn't that old and I hear of others with the same problem.

I test drove this truck today, and WOW, GM has designed a great new smaller pickup. I personally found it to be a much better truck than the Dakota. The Colorado gets much, much better mileage than the Dakota. Also, the Colorado handles better and accelerates superbly. Granted, you can get the Dakota with a V8, but why would you want to suck up the 13mpg?

I picked the orange color and everyone loves it.Love to deep bed and the tailgate design. Trans is very smooth. RPT radio is cool, wish I had bought the satellite radio.

I bought my '04 Colorado Crewcab Z71 4WD used with 20,000 miles. I think it's the best US build compact crewcab truck. Overall I like the truck. GM did a good job with the design and it's a good driving truck. So for I've had to replace a headlight assembly, front axle seal and CV shaft, and the auto dimming/compass rear view mirror. All were warranty repairs but it seems odd given the low mileage. I really wanted a Tacoma. I guess should expect a few problems since I saved approx. $6000-$7000.

If you need exercise, then it's great, because you'll be walking plenty. Mine usually leaves me stranded for various reasons 3 to 4 times a year. If you ever think of owning one then get your head examined and possibly commit yourself, because you aren't well. I have 180000 on it and I'm on my third round of sensors, rebuilt the motor at 140000, replaced the blower motor resistor 4x, the CD player ate a CD 3 weeks after the warranty expired and I've had it to 3 different alignment shops after the dealership couldnt get it to stop eating tie rod ends. This morning it left me stranded at the gas station for reasons yet to be determined; probably the security system from what I've been reading. I have to run around with 700 lbs of sand in it regardless of the season to keep the tires from spinning after it rains. The back seats are unusable and unsafe due to the angle you have to sit at and the lack of support to sit on. All said and done, avoid this truck, and if you have one, do yourself and have it crushed sooner rather than later. Good job GM on losing a customer for life.

My truck is equipped with manual door locks, which is what I wanted. Also I have crank window handles.... The problem with the window handles is they are very stiff to roll up and down. But they still work. The interior door locks work okay also, but it's a stretch to reach across the front seat to unlock it for a passenger. Also, it does not have an outside key lock on the passenger side, which is a real problem in nasty weather. The passenger has to stand there and wait till the driver gets in and reaches across to unlock it. I think it may even be a safety hazard as far as getting in and out in a hurry.

I bought new in 7-03, thought that since the S-10's this would be better. This is single-handedly the worst vehicle I ever owned out of 10+ GM products. The 5 cylinder had no power and even worse fuel economy. The worst is the front end, Isuzu product that is junk. Replace your front brake rotors and you'll know what I mean - the design is ridiculous. The GM book rate is 6+ hours to remove a rotor. Then the flex hose to the rear brakes broke down internally and the micro rubber particles jammed up the rear brakes and the ABS system. I traded it in before I paid the approx $1700 for the replacement. I called GM with this complaint, they never called back! Premium gas only or sensors lit daily

As for the towing capacity it is the same as my wife's Escape. What a joke! The thing is falling apart. The roof leaks, the headliners and carpet are shot! Cheap plastic that breaks with little effort. The front turn signals keep getting corrosion in the plugs and have to be cleaned month after month. I do not abuse my vehicles in any way. I took my truck from Seattle to So. Cali. to visit family. Yes I had to cross the mountains which according to the gotta have V6 / V8's fans said the Colorado was very poor on power. I was more than very pleased to find this little 5 cyl was truely much more powerful then I thought. The gas mileage was also very good on this long trip averaging for the total trip mid 22 MPG. Overall comfort was quite nice considering I was driving a 4WD truck. The interior is just about the same as the rest of the trucks out there, not very exciting. Then for a few dollars I can have the interior trim peices painted to brighten things up.

I bought this truck instead of a Dakota which I'd test drove twice because it was a new design and I've always fancied Chevys. All I felt since my first trip on the interstate was regret for not buying the Dakota. My 2nd trip to the shop for "minor" problems concreted my remorse. A note to all other people considering this truck.. The Colorado was released to put life back into their compact truck line and to directly compete with the Dodge dakota. The are batting .500. It is better than the S- 10 but still no comparison to the Dakota..

I wasn't a big fan of crew cab Colorado's (small bed), but having a baby forced me into one. However, I feel this is the best truck for me and have been won over! My Colorado has room for my family and just about anything else we need to haul. Right after purchasing we had some problems with the traction control. After 6 trips back to the dealer they finally found a wire that had the insulation rubbed thru which was causing the system to ground. This was very frustrating and worrisome at first but the truck has been fine since. The 220 hp 5 cyl and ZQ8 package gives this truck a very sporty feel and is fun to drive.

I have driven about 2000 miles since my purchase. Great looks, handles well. Mileage is about 20 MPG, 80%hwy/20%city combined. Added the GM foldable tonneau cover, along w/ the chrome tubes, bug deflector. Front seats could be more comfortable and plush for 28k price tag, use the Silverado Z71 seats. Cup holder should be moved forward, with the console it is not easy to access. Rear visibily is limited due to the high back rear seats. The bed is adequate despite being about 6 inches short.

A bad Truck To Buy

This Truck has been in the Shop 3 time is the past 2 months to have the transmission worked on, still not fixed. Forget about getting help from GM reps to talk with about safety issue. They will just tell you that your safety is not their concern, but to try and fix the vehicle. I would be very careful if I were thing about buying this vehicle. For the price and better quality I would look at a different Truck.

i had to let my S10 go due to penny pinching. but I loved the truck. I did not expect the Colorado to be as good as it is but the 2.8 is great for mileage and power and the sound system is the best stock I have heard yet.

HI, I have been driving trucks for a while now. I used to drive a standard isuzu with no confort options. I got my Colorado almost fully loaded (all except the leather and the Onstar). Now instead of dreading the drive to work I love it. This truck is comfrtable yet regged, sporty yet serious, and generally a damn good truck. and the 4x4 with the rear wheel deferential is excelent in snow, Ice and heavy off-roading a must have for anyone in CANADA. I did a lot of investigating before I bought this truck. and I tell you compared to this truck the Ranger, Dakota, or even the toyota Tundra seem like WWII technology.

This truck is marketed toward people who won't do a lot of towing and value ride/comfort, which is me. The crew cab has lots of interior room, even for 6 footers in the back seat. The 5 cylinder engine has plenty of power, better than the V6 it replaces in the S-10. Plus its better on gas.

I bought this vehicle in April it is now June. It has been in the shop three times. (Once for Mold in the A/C, Water damage from a defective door, and had the transmission replace). I have had many Chevy Vehicles and I’m beyond the point of dissatisfied with the Colorado Truck. This truck is fun to drive when it is not in the shop for repairs. Good on gas for a Truck. All in all I would be weary of buying this truck until they have a chance to work out all of the bugs.

This truck was the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned. I put 125,000 miles on it and had almost no trouble. I just traded it in and feel like I lost part of the family.

I love my Colorado! It looks good, drives nice, 25 mpg highway with a 3.5 engine, I like the power, comfertable ride, and it is a very solid feeling truck. I don't know of another truck I would rather have at this time. Three adults in the back bench seat without being to crouded. Just like the commercial! Problem free going onto 14,000 miles The only thing I found is that it has problems with icy roads whith wind. 50mph off the road into a farm field with the rear in a drain ditch, no harm done! Any vehicle is going to have problems on ice, so I can't bring the truck down for that. Great truck at a good value, just take it slow on ice.

Great overal truck 1000 miles driven. Easy to drive and handel. The only down fall I have found so far is the high back bucket seat limit vision throught the rear view mirror. But still a great truck. I would buy another.

I find the 5 cylinder to be a wonderfull engine, but they could have spent some engineering money on the exhaust note. The seats are great, the interior it very good. No real complaints so far, and my other cars are Porsches and an Audi. My 5 year old thinks it's cool, and that's what really matters.

I drove a Chevy Avalanche in the past and the transition to this truck was quite a surprise. I love its light weight feel, it's planted footing around corners and it's space inside. The interior is utilitarian yet sophisticated without getting too fancy. The I-5 engine sings like a miniature V10. Revving it at a stoplight makes everyone think that you have done modivications to your exhaust system. This truck is phenomenal in the snow and offroad alike. The huge 265's it comes with are incredible. Nothing better than an abundance of rubber in a Z71. I am very pleased with the truck and hope to get another colorado or possibly an H3 Hummer with the same faboulus I-5 engine. Test it.

I bought the truck new in 2004 and he went to the test, off road, carried load, pulling stuff. For a 4cyl this very good. I will keep it until he to the junk yard.

I own a 2004 Colorado extented cab ZQ8. I love my truck. The only problem I'm having is the AC works good on 4 but on 1,2,3 don't hold your breath. I have 62,000 miles and I still get around 24 - 27 mpg. This truck has the get up and go. I turn heads and when I'm on the freeway people move out of my way. I'm not sure if it's the yellow that makes them move or if they are letting me by just to get a glance of the beauty
