Close but not perfect

A midget weight lifter who also wrestles and runs races. This is the modern equivalent to a classic British sports car - only very reliable and doesn't rust. Some short cuts were taken on interior design (no fuse for instrument lights, seat bushings wear quickly, glove box droops, plastic shoulder harness guides break habitually) but there are easy fixes for all of these and otherwise overall quality is great. This is a bargain in the used sports car market, and will bring a smile to your face every time you drive it. Be sure to inspect the rear sub-frame attach points in the trunk for separation on any candidate car being considered. This is a known weak area and is expensive to repair.

BMW M Power

This car is one of the most fun cars you can drive. Its 240 hp is much stronger than it suggests. It will smoke most cars with 300 plus hp. If you get an opportunity to drive one you'll buy it, it feels like a miniature 427 Cobra. Tons of torque with wheel spinning drifting power, even stock it will give most new sport cars a run for their money!

This car is fun to drive. It is a blast. The handling is terrific, acceleration is WOW. It is my wife's car and fortunately she goes out of town occasionally and I get to drive it. It has been in for electric seat trouble, the motor burned out and is welded to the frame, so the whole seat frame has to be replaced. The air conditioner has a hole in the evaporator canister (not sure if right term). Costs 1,100 to fix. An oxygen sensor had to be replaced. The seats dont fit tight as a result they shift slightly when cornering.

Fun with a capital M

The '98 model was the first year for the M version of the Z3 and has the S52 engine with 240 bhp and about 238 ft lbs of torque. Combine this power with a tuned suspension and a mere 3000 lbs of empty weight, and you have the definition of 'pocket rocket.' While the later 2001/2002 model year versions of the (Z3) M Roadster had a more powerful (and more complicated to maintain) engine rated at 315 bhp, the additional HP is pretty much useless on American roads and highways, unless you just liked having your neck snapped back from standing starts, that is. The M Roadster has a lower and more aggressive stance than the Z3, and it's a head turner. The M Roadster just plain ROCKS.

Unbelievable machine

Wow!!! This car is unbelievable. I have owned over 100 cars most of which are special interest. This is hands down the most fun and thrilling to drive. The power at acceleration is mind boggling - it throws you back in the seat and there is no hesitation or lag when you put the pedal to the medal. I never really buy cars to keep for a long time but if I ever sold this M roadster it would only be to buy another one. I absolutely love it. Any car nut who has a chance to drive one will buy one. This car is the best kept performance car secret on earth.

This car is the single best car I've driven and had the pleasure to own. It's ablities to corner, accelerate, and not to mention turn heads of everyone who sees it. It's braking is superior to that of any car I've ever driven. It's safety in an accident, is unmatched. The car, hugs you in place, while it hugs every curve in the road. You don't drive this car. You DRIVE it.

M-Roadster is a ball to drive. Lots of torque, retro-look, smooth and responsive. Sophisticated. This is a sports car, not a grocery-getter hence, little storage. If you like to hang your arm over the door, and let your hair blow, this is the car. The M is a monster and is deceptively fast.

When you can still have that same joy as when it was new then you really understand that this car is special. Is it because it acts and drives like a roadster or just a great car to drive I just do not know but when I get in this car well wow''

Incredible Performance

I acquired this vehicle from a relative knowing the special care and upkeep this car has received during the first eight years. I have not been disappointed. This car is the most fun ride I have experienced in nearly 40 years of driving and that includes, Corvettes, Mustangs, BMWs, etc. The handling on corners far surpasses all of the previous rides. Heads never fail to turn when this car approaches... probably the result of the small number ever built by BMW. Everyone wants to know what kind of car is that? If you love performance vehicles, drive one and you'll be hooked.

I agonized over buying this car after not having a car payment for over 2 years. Each day that goes by, I know I made the right choice. What else can you say, this will be a car that will be legendary and desired by all enthusiasts for many years to come. No regrets. Can't wipe the smile from my face.

have you hugged your design team lately?

This car was a perfect blend of sports car driving and gt tightness. Each ride, I wanted to hug the entire design team(yes engineers and body and interior teams). Favotite experience: walking to the car, getting in,starting it, adjusting body position, putting it in gear, tapping the throtle letting out the clutch---smile,smile,then realizing I can't wipe off the smile if I wanted to.

Have had no significant problems in over 72,000 miles of ownership... however, passenger seat belt is designed to accomodate a child seat (which numerous stickers in the car warn you not to use)and belt locks-up if pulled out too far...not good when wearing heavy winter clothing. Rear view mirror is badly located and too big...blocks right front vision in turns and off ramps...I replaced it with a smaller one. The factory clear coat paint job chips extremely easily...car looks sand- blasted within months.

5 years later - still have it, won't sell it. Its the tightest, zippiest, power ride ever. Other supercars eg Porsches feel bulky by comparison. BMW created something very special and made it more so by producing a very small number - this car has classic potential.

Boston Green M-Coupe

It was love at first sight, back in '98. I wasn't even intending to buy a new car, but this beauty made me melt on the spot. Of all the cars we've owned, this one is by far the best package we ever were blessed to drive and own. I don't care what the resale value is, today, because I still feel that my M is worth every penny I spent on it new, today! No other car has continued to give me tingles when I first lay my eyes on it and that 'good all over, feeling' that this beauty does, even after 7 years. As BMW's slogan said, back in '99, "Extreme BMW, It's not for everyone" But for those who know this car - there is no other!! Unfortunately, the greatest cars only remain as good as their caretakers (technicians). Find a good tech, and your ride will reward you for many miles and years! - I have and do, to today.

A Real Roadster

I've owned my M Roadster for seven years and still love it. The retro styling still turns heads and the car is still rock solid. Blinding fast to 60 because of the wonderful torque, it's equally impressive in the important 50-80 range. If you want techno-gadgets, buy something from Japan, but if you like to drive, this is your car. These 1998-2001 cars have bottomed out in price and will soon start appreciating.

Bought this 99 M Coupe in 2001 with 11000 miles on it. Still mint condition after a DIY clay-bar treatment last week, with 75000 miles of pure driving exhilaration on it. Looks best from behind, which is the view most people get of it anyway. All I've had to do is change fluids and filters. Car is now on its 2nd set of front tires, 3rd set of rear tires (Michelin Pilot Sports). First brake job approaching now, at 75000 miles. Car handles like a gecko-footed go-kart. Incredible grip, low-end torque and acceleration -- and this is just the 240-hp version.

I LOVE IT,it attracts attention like honey attracts bees.Where else can you get a car that will keep up in a straight line with a vette and yet manhandle an autocross track or full race track.Torque? What fun this car can be,its got grunt from anywhere on the tach in any gear!Turn off the ASC and its light em up!Only 6000 cars made in 4 years for the US,you are likely to be the only one with a Coupe for MANY blocks around. This can be quite overwhelming when you arent used to the attention! This car truly is an example of one of my favorite quotes:A car is as close as man will ever get to creating something living

This car gets up and goes, it has never let me down. And even though it is 8 years old it still gets compliments on how good it looks. From the moment I sit in it and turn it on to that low purrrrrr the car sits down, then it goes! The faster I go the smoother it rides, I love the power, even when it is sitting still.

I usually only keep a vehicle for one or two years. This is usually about the time I start to get bored with a car and begin searching for something more exciting. Not this time! I've been so impressed with my M-Coupe. I also own a 1999 911 Carrera and the M-Coupe for a little more than half the price has been just as much fun to drive. Absolutely no problems with the M-Coupe just fun, fun, fun!

This car, hands down, is one of the funnest performance cars on the market today. The exterior styling is the hottest attribute on this car. I've owned it for over a year now, it always turns heads and receives thumbs up from passer bys. Cargo space is more than people expect, Hardon Kardon stereo w/CD changer is excellent. Its a unique purchase thats affordable. If your thinking of purchasing one, do it. You won't be dissappointed!
