Great ride but I-Drive needs work

I test drove them all and the BMW won the ride derby. No complaints there but the I-Drive interface needs work. The controls are not intuitive and this from a computer programmer! Be prepared to spend hours figuring this out. Audio controls are really minimal - e.g. no CD track titles, no fast forward, no random across multiple CD's. Page numbers in index of owner's manual are almost all wrong!

After almost a year, I am still awed by this car. It strikes such a cord of delight that there are such talented designers and engineers at BMW. It nothing less than a masterpiece...

Better love the loaner

I bought the 2004 because I thought the iDrive demons had been exorcised. Not so, and other recurring issues forced me to tell BMW to take the car back... and they did. During my 30 months with the car, I drove every loaner car that the dealership had. They tried to fix things but the problems wouldn't show up when the car was in their hands. When they did, they couldn't come up with permanent fixes. There is a reason the 7 series made it to #1 on Consumer Reports list of most problematic cars. I am switching to a less complicated 5 series and the first time I have to take it in for them to reload the computer... I'm done with BMW.

BMW, You've done it this time!!

When the wife and I went shopping for our new cars, she thought she was coming home with the 760Li, well ha, that was for me, she got the entry level 745i. I had a 1999 S320 and she had a 2001 Audi A8. The BMW 7-series is the top of the line, I kind of like it better than the Rolls Royce I test drove, yes I like it better... My daughter and son took both cars to prom and they said their friends just fell in love with it. So did the whole family. There is really no words for it. I was going to purchase the 2004 Mercedes Benz S500 AMG but this caught my eye, my 760Li is a deep deep red and the wife's is just plain old black.

Best Money Can Buy

We have owned most every luxury vehicle sold in America, at the present time I believe we have purchased the best money can buy in our new 745i. Comfort, style and drive are all to be commended as the top of comparable auto's sold. The price is still a bit pricey, but no question can be in doubt regarding all the features we were looking for in a new car. We have traded our 745il in to update and have found the upgrade to be superior to our older model.
