Mechanically a twin of the BMW X1, the X2 drapes sleeker fastback bodywork over the same major mechanical pieces. BMW pioneered the modern SUV "coupe" body style with the X6, and it now offers equivalent high-style derivatives of all its SUVs. While the dimensional differences between the X2 and its traditional SUV sibling are minimal, they merit a close examination by shoppers placing a premium on interior space. In the front row, X2 occupants have 1.4 inches less headroom. In the back seat, the X2 loses 2.2 inches of headroom. Unlike most coupe-style SUVs, though, the X2 retains much of the X1's cargo space.
