2026 Acura MDX

Compact SUVs are usually the best-selling vehicle in an automaker's lineup, but in Acura's kingdom, it's actually the three-row MDX that takes the crown. Credit is partially due to Acrua's aggressive pricing strategy (the midsize MDX is only slightly more expensive than the compact BMW X3), but the MDX is also a compelling vehicle on its own. It cemented its excellence last year with a comprehensive midgeneration refresh highlighted by a new Google-based touchscreen infotainment system that replaced the much-maligned True Touchpad Interface. Acura also switched to Bang & Olufsen premium audio systems, upgraded the driver assistance technology hardware, and added storage in the front center console. The automaker also tweaked the MDX's exterior styling, though the changes were subtle. Since Acura typically doesn't upgrade vehicles outside of these midlife refreshes, we don't expect major changes to the 2026 MDX.

Edmunds spotlight: Bang & Olufsen sound system

After using Panasonic/ELS sound systems for the better part of two decades, the MDX now features a pair of premium audio upgrades from premium audio brand Bang & Olufsen. The first choice is a 19-speaker system included in the Technology, Advance and A-Spec packages. The second is exclusive to the Type S and is the most powerful sound system ever fitted to an Acura. It has 31 speakers (including 12 in the ceiling alone!), 24 channels of power, and two amplifiers. Your podcasts have never sounded better.

Competitors to consider

The Lexus TX has a similar starting price and seating capacity, with advantages that include several available hybrid powertrains and a much more spacious third row. On the other hand, the TX is less athletic and enjoyable to drive. The Lincoln Aviator is pricier and more powerful to start, but it's also roomier and has a particularly stylish cabin. The Volvo XC90 was heavily updated last year and keeps the luxurious SUV competitive as it celebrates its 10th birthday. Finally, if the MDX's sporty handling is appealing, the Mazda CX-90 is a smart alternative that has a surprisingly upscale interior. Just go with a turbocharged engine; the plug-in hybrid powertrain is disappointing.

The 2026 Acura MDX should remain one of the top-rated midsize three-row luxury SUVs. Unless a new competitor comes along to knock it off its perch, there shouldn't be anything changed for 2026 to alter our opinions of Acura's popular crossover.
