Shockingly bad infotainment system
I think the car looks beautiful and modern inside and out which is why we bought it. After bringing it home; I realize how bad the infotainment system was. 1. Reboots at least once a week while I am driving. 2. The radio stops working for no reason. I can see the Chanel's but no audio. Have to turn the car off, open the door, close it and then restart the car for the radio to work. 3. The WiFi hotspot doesn't work and ATT said that they have told Acura but Acura to date has not resolved the software issue on their end. I am honestly very disappointed that a Honda made car would have such obvious issues which have remained unresolved for such a long time.

Beautiful car but annoying issues that persist
Got my 2022 MDX Advance in September 2021. The front doors vibrate and make annoying noise when music is played - even at low volume. Wireless CarPlay doesn't always work - a few times a week the system prompts me to re-connect my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I also get an error on the Infotainment screen often - "LinxlPodServiceApp isn't responding" - that I have to click to dismiss. My iPhone and the car's Infotainment software are both up to date. I have about 5,500 miles now and I'm starting to get a whooshing/wind noise from the right passenger door area when I’m on the highway going more than 60 miles an hour. Sometimes there’s a little bit of a faint clanking sound also. The Infotainment system never shows the correct artwork for the music in the right side of the screen (which apparently is the side that Acura uses - the main section of the screen for the Apple Car Play always shows the right song). I’m don't get any turn by turn directions on the Heads Up Display (HUD) for Apple Maps or Waze until 20 minutes into my drive when suddenly all the directions will start from the beginning and cycle through quickly until it is caught up. In addition, my iPhone has never been able to charge using the wireless charging pad which takes up 25% of the real estate in the center console and I basically keep it off all the time. Acura said it is a known issue but has made no fixes or communication about it and I have had the car for over 6 months. Needless to say, I’m pretty disappointed Acura isn’t communicating anything about that to the 2022 MDX owners. Very frustrating. The truth is, this is a beautiful car to look at but when it comes to the tech and functionality, it is a dud.

It's typical Acura / Honda.
There's lots to like about the 2022 Acura MDX. Its sleek and handsome exterior is sophisticated. In the interior the design is unique and overall cabin space is generous. However, after owning the vehicle for 20k mi the pros and cons are clear. Cup holder design is terrible. The tabs will fall into the center console black hole. We initially had the cup holder warrantied at like 5k mi, but both cup holders broke and we didn't bother bringing back. Also the dealer attempted to fix the cup holder by prying into the wireless charger pad leaving pry marks. The exterior fit is not what one considers "precision." It's more like someone eye balling the fitment with a thick finger. The hood, front quarter panel, rear trunk panel pieces, the headlight and front fender, A-Pillar to door gap all have varying fitment widths. Very disappointing for a $60k+ vehicle The trim piece anterior to the A-Pillar that covers the windshield also uninstalled itself. In high wind situation the cruise control will abruptly slam on the brakes, which is terrifying for all occupants, and causes my young children to repeat things I never intended them to hear. Need more dampening on the SUV. It's kind of stuck between almost performance and trying to be luxury. Acura is not a luxury brand, it is a performance brand, but you're selling 3 row SUVs, make up your mind. The AWD system is excellent, we recently drove through a snow storm without chains and never doubted the car, tons of traction and predictability. While we drive past dozens of cars stranded or watched fake 4WD cars struggle even with chains installed. Approaching 30k mi and need to decide whether to keep car or not - and we're not entirely convinced that this car will age well.

Fathom Blue Pearl Dream
New and final update: We recently traded this car in for a ‘24 Honda CRV Sport Touring. Yes, the Honda is no where near the same category of vehicle but several key factors led to changing of the score I had given the car originally and it departing our family. First and foremost, we traded it in with 38K miles, during its last service visit at Fremont Acura, they had they replace the passenger side front brake caliper because it was stuck in a practically closed position (at 36K miles); as a result this caused uneven wear on the both front brakes (they were at 30%). The pads, rotors, and caliper were replaced per Acura. At about the 25K mile mark, we caught a rock in the rear right passenger side of the car (lodged between the caliper and rotor). The car was towed to dealer because it was causing a loud scratching sound and we at the time didn’t know the problem. Rock was removed from rear brakes but car never stopped producing the scratching sound when braking and according to Fremont Acura, even if we replaced the entire system in the rear (pads and rotors) there’s no guarantee the noise would stop! What kind of operation is this or vehicle is this when brakes make a scratching sound when braking at 38K miles?! Bad engineering, poor craftsmanship, etc. we loved the comfort of the car’s front seats, stereo system was one of the best on the market, tech can and was a bit glitchy at times. But no $70K car should be making sounds at 38K miles, I’m sorry this is not the 1960s or 1970s. Good luck to future owners, beautiful looking SUV, but not worth our family’s lives. This will remain forbidden fruit! Update: July 13, 2023: This vehicle has been stellar, comfortable, quick for what it is, creature comforts and gimmicks aside it works as advertised. We continue to average about 25-28 on the highway with the recommended 91 octane. City mileage is about 16, pretty dismal. The only unfortunate part of owning the car is having it serviced. We refuse to take our vehicle to our local corresponding dealership (Fresno Acura); absolutely nightmare of an experience going there. So we drive to our originally purchased dealership for service. The major complaints we have about the vehicle stems from the interior rear portion of the car. The middle row seats while we appreciate the stadium style of approach of having them sit higher than the front seats; helping with a less confined feeling. The padding is not the same quality and they are rather hard over long trips. And the lack of third row climate vents or controls is really irksome. You have to raise the fan speed for the folks in the rear to receive any kind of airflow. Seems like a major misstep in a flagship vehicle. We continue to love everything else about the car. The user interface is fine, and I love not having to touch the screen. I just wish the front seats were copied for the middle row. Those are thrones in comparison. Update: July 12, 2022 This vehicle contains to be a stellar value proposition (if you could call any luxury vehicle) a value proposition. The vehicle currently has 13.5K miles and has been an excellent family vehicle. The MDX is extremely comfortable for long travels, we frequently use it for road-trips and commuting from the SF Bay Area and the Central Valley, CA. On the highway, the MDX has been able to match EPA highway ratings with cruise control engaged, ideal road conditions (and traffic), and air pressure in tires. Unhappy with our local dealer, Fresno Acura is a joke. But other than that our vehicle has been comfortable, easy to drive, relatively good on gas mileage. In terms of negatives, wish their were third row vents in the back row seems like a major oversight on Acura/Honda’s part. Another minor annoyance is the small/almost nonexistent door sill protection for the interior of vehicle, the carpet is left exposed unnecessarily to wear and tear when a simple plastic cover could have been added. Overall, we are happy with the performance of our car, love the color in the sea of monochromatic colors on the road. The engine and transmission performance is ok, wished for the Type-S but was not available during original purchase. Would recommend to anyone looking for a bulletproof option besides the Lexus RX350. Original Review: Having owned more than a dozen Toyota’s (Corollas, Camrys, and a Highlander), Chevrolet, Fords, and even a Cadillac CTS; this Acura is buttery smooth. Purchased the car on Tuesday from Acura of Fremont. This car is stellar, have never owned a Honda/Acura product before. Initially, was looking at an RX350 with the luxury package or an F-Sport but couldn’t get passed the revamped grill in front. The Acura has been good in so far in every regard. So far 600 miles and about 24.5 miles per gallon on highway with 70 miles per hour. Not great, but not bad considering the size of the car. Drives a lot smaller than it is and the dynamic mode is fun with the ambient lighting and driving dynamics.

Buyer Beware
Just purchased a 2022 MDX Advance 48 days ago brand new. This car has put me in 2 extremely dangerous situations. The first being power steering went completely out as I was traveling down the freeway at 78mph. Was only slightly able to move steering wheel with quite a bit of force so was able to just get the car pulled onto the shoulder of the road. As I was sitting there, warning light came on that notified me braking systems failure and car could roll. This was the hill assist mode. Taken to dealer ASAP was instructed that they couldn’t find anything. Picked up the car and 2 days later, car goes into collision mitigation mode while I was traveling 50mph with the only car in my sight was behind me. That car had to swerve to avoid backing into me. This incident caused me to have whiplash. The car is back in the shop and have been told that Acura has only seen this one other time. Blah blah blah!!! The real kicker is the part needed hasn’t even been manufactured. So I could wait for months before this is fixed. Researching what my consumer right are at the moment.
