Type S? More like Broken Type.

We got our 2022 MDX Type S in April 2nd of 2022. We fell in love with the features and handling of the vehicle. The air ride made the car feel great. Our dealership experience was very good and enjoyable. On May 11th 2022 while traveling at 21 miles an hour the front left strut blew at 888 miles on the odometer. Our vehicle instantly dropped the front left corner of the vehicle and all of the warning lights went off. We were just a block away from our home so we took it home. The next day we had the car towed to the local Acura dealership and had it examined. They told me the issue was not engineeringly possible. So the part was backordered but we put in a high priority order. After a few weeks I reached out to Honda of America to see if I could get some corporate power behind the process. After 2 more weeks, 27 days out of service, the part finally arrived. Turns out Honda of America sent the incorrect part. The dealership ordered 2 more and both were wrong. At this point our vehicle has been in the shop for 32 days and not fix insight. What has Honda done to assist us with this issue? Nothing. No offer for my time. No offer to replace my vehicle. Just a lot of apologies while my 75k vehicle is in the shop not being driven. At this point it would take a lot for Honda to redeem themselves in my eyes. At this point I would never own another Honda product.

New MDX is nice!

I had a 2019 MDX Sport Hybrid Tech, and just recently turned in my lease and got a 2022 MDX Tech. While I miss the gas mileage @5-27 regularly, and overall power of the Hybrid (it was definitely faster) I LOVE the ride of my 2022. It feels so much more planted down with the double wishbone front suspension. I did not like the touchpad when I first got it, but once you sit and set everything up in one shot - it is a lot easier to use. I live for my steering wheel controls and Siri and Apple Car play are wonderful just like in the last one Overall a much better ride for sure. Handles like a dream for such a big vehicle. The Interior finally feels luxurious!!

The good, the bad and the ugly

The Good: My previous ride was a 2018 MDX. My 2022 MDX (A Spec) is a serious upgrade. The handling and overall ride feels much better. The interior is light years ahead. The transmission, night and day - better. ELS surround sound is impressive, and the large sunroof is much appreciated. Feels bigger inside while not riding or feeling bigger outside. The exterior styling looks slick. Overall,  I found the price to be not much more than a loaded Telluride or Pilot etc., and significantly less than an XC90 or Q7. For me, this was the sweet spot. You can now move the position of the crossbars on the roof - nice. Power is adequate.  The Bad: Tires are louder than they should be. The touchpad is a learning curve and isn't the best. If you are using Apple CarPlay, the only way to change the radio channel is with the steering wheel dial to scroll thru favorites. Wish it was a hybrid.  The Ugly: Tech gremlins live within. There are known issues with Iphone 12, but I have an Iphone XR (with up to date IOS). My Sirius cuts out intermittently (50% of the time)  when it connects to Apple Car Play, and then i'm forced to go to the home screen, choose FM, go back to the home screen, and choose Sirius if I want to listen to XM radio. It seems to especially dislike Waze, anybody out there like using Waze like I do? I video'd this issue with the salesperson so that there was no doubt.  I was told by the Service Dept today to delete the Waze app, while another tech told me I didn't have to do it. Bottom line, Acura is working on it, but it could take 6-8 months is what i was told. I asked if my problem was common, they said they've seen some issues, but I was their first with the new MDX.  Bottom line, if you have an Iphone, especially if you like using Waze, test CarPlay  many times over to see if you might have issues too. I used Waze and Apple Car Play all day long on my 2018 MDX without issue, so despite the fact that one Acura Tech blamed Waze, I'm convinced that it's Acura that has the issue. I've had phone calls that disappear and switch back to XM, and I've had the touchpad not respond and allow me to answer an incoming phone call.  Acura, are you listening, your system is buggy and needs fixing.  Please.

We’ve had our MDX for about 18 months and have 40,000 miles on it. No issues yet. Still drives like new. We’ve found it to be useful in hauling light items, grand-kids, and for long road trips. Gas mileage as advertised. Handles well. Seats are very comfortable. Sound system is excellent.

MDX Type S Advanced - Handles like a Dream

Have only had the car a few days not but I lack the adjectives to describe this car. All I can say is it is fantastic. We had our first road trip, in Comfort mode I am getting 24 mpg highway which was surprisingly good, considering I was covering a lot of distance with some traffic on the way. One con for me for now is that the Acura Link app (available to all Acuras) is slow and poorly designed. The console entertainment system screen which many people dislike actually works pretty well. I personally prefer this. If I were to try to reach out and use it as a touch screen it will certainly make driving more dangerous. The split screen option also makes sense switching between maps and music is seamless.
