2006 Nissan Pathfinder SUV SE 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I bought my Pathfinder brand new. Last week after 245,XXX miles the dreaded transmission radiator problem took her down. I've replaced the catalytic converters twice, the fuel pump, both O2 sensors, Oil Pressure sensor, Camshaft position sensor, the u -joint. I got 180,000 miles out of her before all of these problems and she's never left me stranded along the road. Brand new these cars are good, but unfortunately this is my 4th and final Nissan. So if you see a used one on the lot with around 150k miles on it. Move on and save yourself some dough.

Favorite Features

Full size spare, Body style, extra charging ports

Suggested Improvements

Ive always had transmission and sensor problems in every nissan i've owned. They need to fire everyone responsible for desiging transmissions.

Please Google search Nissan Pathfinder transmission problem prior to purchasing this vehicle used. What may/will happen is after 80k - 100K miles there will be a complete transmission failure. There is an obvious defect in the radiator / transmission which allows radiator fluid to go into the transmission. Once this happens you will need a complete transmission and radiator (about a $5-6K+ fix). There is a class action lawsuit against Nissan USA and they may cover 1/2 of the expenses but you will still be out of $3K in out of pocket expenses. There is also a catalytic convertver / O2 sensor problem which will not allow the vehicle to pass smog (If you live in CA) and costs $1200 to fix.

Favorite Features

The car overall is great. I wish Nissan would just recall the transmission problem (which is currently under an NHSTA investigation). I would love to keep the car. The motor is great, the car is so practical...love rear wheel drive and the interior layout is perfect for kids. Nissan should do the right thing and recall the problem. If this happens go ahead and buy. If not, buyer beware

Suggested Improvements

Recall obvious defect in transmission / radiator and O2 sensor.

2006 Nissan Pathfinder SUV SE 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I bought my Pathfinder new in 2006. With two kids and my job, I'm constantly on the road. This SUV has lead up to its name. It's been everywhere. I keep the oil changed regularly, on my 3rd set of tires & brakes. It does a great job. Other than the typical wear issues, the only thing I can complain about is the 93 octane fuel requirement. With gas prices as high as they are, it's not unusual to pay $60+ for a tank of gas. I tried the 87 octane the first year, and I did not like the performance. I went back to 93 octane and haven't changed. I've had nine vehicles in my life, and this is the only car I've driven that has never given me problems. It's a great vehicle.

Favorite Features

Heater warms up quick on cold mornings. Kids can adjust temp in the back. It has a VERY large capacity when all the seats are down. Example: I've slid a bedroom door in the back and closed the hatch! The paint is red, and the color is still very bright. The radio and speakers are very good, and the CD player still runs great. I love the rearview mirror auto dim when bright lights get behind me. I never have to adjust the mirror. It will pull a trailer down the highway, a four wheeler out of the swamp, a riding mower out of the shrubs. It will hold four kids and a labrador. Or four kids and two Boykin Spaniels. There are enough outlets for electonics, too. And plenty of cup holders.

Suggested Improvements

Better gas mileage would be my biggest issue. I average 15 mpg in city and 20 mpg on highway. The running boards could be a bit stronger, and the hatch back hydraulics won't hold the door up on cold mornings.

Review

I purchased a Pathfinder almost 2 years ago, used. The seats were found to be so uncomfortable, my husband ALWAYS complained about how they felt like sitting on plywood. The center console, (where you rest your arm), always made a cracking sound when leaned on, and eventually broke. The backseat cupholder was sort of loose, and eventually broke off too. Then, when the car hit 95,000 miles, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on. Advance Auto put the computer on it, and said it was just the way I had put the gas cap back on and it would go off. It did, but when I filled up again, it came back on. I got lucky & got rid of it, I knew it was about to become expensive to repair- JUNK

Favorite Features

Sunroof, Bose stereo system, 3rd row seat

Suggested Improvements

Nissan should make their seats more comfortable, and fix all the engine/ transmission problems. When they do a 'recall', they should not be allowed to limit the mileage, if it's a recall, it's a recall, that means there's a flaw with their design, or engineering, it shouldn't matter how many miles are on a vehicle.

Review

After 2 years of owning my 2006 Pathfinder, I had nothing but good things to say. After 4-5 years of owing...it is another story. After the reliability of my parent's Datsun/Nissan products, I figured I would see 250,000 trouble free miles. In the last 12 months, I have spent over $5K replacing two cat converters, u-joints, shocks, ECU relay. Today, check engine light is on again! I am afraid of the ticking time bomb of the transmission I read about. Carlos Goshen may have "saved" Nissan...but as with many short-term thinking cost cuttiing "businessmen", it is at the sacrifice of Nissan's reputation of quality products. This will likely be the last Nissan product I ever buy! RIP Nissan

Suggested Improvements

Don't sacrifice the reputation of Nissan quality/durability to save $100 per vehicle. The latest products from Nissan has shown that the company bottom line and profit has become more important than offering customer a great product. Bring the "old" Nissan back and get rid of "Carlos". Maybe Michelin wants him back...
