- Part of the first Titan XD generation released for 2016
Overview
The 2023 Nissan Titan XD remains an oddball in the truck world. Nissan introduced it as a way to bridge the gap between full-size and heavy-duty pickups, with the ride comfort of the former and extra strength of the latter. The idea made more sense nearly a decade ago when the Titan XD debuted. Back then, the big Nissan was sized like a heavy-duty, and it could haul and tow more than competitors like the Ram 1500 or Toyota Tundra.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2023 Nissan Titan XD S 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (5.6L 8cyl 9A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $2.95 per gallon for regular unleaded in Virginia.

Avg. Large Truck
But today's full-size trucks are larger and more capable, and nearly all can haul and tow more. Today the Titan XD is simply another entry in the full-size class, and a stagnant entry at that. It hasn't been significantly updated since its arrival. For 2023, the Titan XD carries over with only one notable change: the addition of wireless Apple CarPlay as a standard feature on the Pro-4X and Platinum Reserve trim levels. CarPlay and Android Auto via USB cable still come standard on the S and SV trims.
The Titan XD answers a question no one really asked, but it's still worth a look, especially if you can get a deal on one. The Pro-4X model, in particular, can be the foundation of a wild off-road truck. The Titan XD is also a more streamlined purchase. Full-size trucks offer dozens of combinations and can serve the span of personal, recreational and commercial needs. The Titan XD is simple by comparison. One V8 engine, two bed lengths and four trim levels. If you want a capable truck with a minimum of buying headache, the Titan XD fits the bill. But if hauling and towing are priorities, the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra are all better options.
Which Titan XD does Edmunds recommend?
You don't need to be an off-road enthusiast to enjoy the benefits of the Pro-4X. It costs only a bit more than an SV trim equipped with the same features and options, but it adds an upgraded suspension, fortified off-road hardware, LED headlights and, new for 2023, wireless Apple CarPlay. You can also add a wider selection of luxury options not available on the lower trims. Even if you never take to the trails, the Pro-4X delivers the Titan XD's upside with some adventure-ready capability.

2018 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (5.0L 8cyl Turbodiesel 6A)
I really like the truck. I wanted a half ton truck that could pull a heavy load. I reviewed Ram 1500 diesel, Ford F-150 diesel, Colorado diesel, Canyon diesel and Gmc 1500 and Chevrolet 1500 5.3 gas and 6.2 gas. i also wanted a truck that had all the amenities, and one that was easy to get in and out of. l looked at all the above truck towing capabilities, and this truck was the best, at … approximately 12,300 #'s. it has all the options on it, platinum reserve, 4x4, rear step, cargo boxes inside the bed, utility track system in bed, halogen driving lights up front, and it also has the factory DVD players in back of headrest of driver and passenger seats. the truck has a 3.91 rear end and I was concerned about the mileage, when not towing. I do not drive fast, about 62MPH. At that rate of speed on a straight away I am getting between 21.4 and 24 mpg. when I pushed the truck to 70mph, my mileage dropped to 19.2 to 21.4. I am adding a K&N 100,000 mile air filter that will not void the factory warranty and I am adding a Undercover Flex Trifold tonneau cover to the truck. very pleased with the truck, has great storage in bed, comes with gooseneck ball and safety chain connectors. it also has great storage inside the cab, and under the rear seats with fold out racks for additional storage and lockable under seat rear storage. Birdseye navigation system, front and rear and side. The only thing I think Nissan could make an improvement on the placement of seat belts, They are a little hard to get too. other than that the truck is perfect.

2018 Nissan Titan XD SL 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
I purchased my Titan XD in January of 2018. I have the 4X4 SL Crew Cab with the 5.6 gas V8. The truck has been great. It rides as smoothly as any family sedan and it quiet and comfortable inside. My old Titan had 180,000 miles when I traded it in, and was an incredible truck, so I have high expectations for the new model I bought. So far, it has exceeded my expectations. It gets good … mileage for a truck its size and tows my 7,000 pound RV with no issue. The truck doesn't even sound like its working when pulling it. The whole truck feels sturdy and well put together. The doors have a solid "thunk" when closed and the materials are high quality inside. People are amazed at how nice the inside is. The only complaints I have is the infotainment screen is on the small side and the gas tank could be bigger. I get around 16 to 17 MPG in the city and around 20 to 22 on the highway with the gas V8. I am very happy with my purchase. It is also nice to drive something that looks so cool and isn't the same truck that is on every street corner and traffic light. It definitely draws attention.

2018 Nissan Titan XD S 2dr Regular Cab LB (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
I bought a 2017 XD S single cab gas engine truck as a retirement gift to myself. I could've bought the high end Titan but I wanted a solid work truck to tow and carry light to moderate loads. I couldn't be happier with my choice. Plenty of power and very comfortable for a large truck. I looked at all makes and models and found exactly what I wanted and needed with this Titan XD S. Priced … much lower than comparable Ford, Chevy, Dodge and Toyota and the warranty is the best in the business. No regrets. If you're in the market for a truck you should look at Nissan.

2019 Nissan Titan XD Platinum Reserve 4dr Crew Cab 4WD SB (5.0L 8cyl Turbodiesel 6A)
this is the 2nd Titan XD I have owned and it is a GREAT truck. have had ZERO problems with either one. it has a tons of room I put my 2 granddaughters car seats in the back seat and they have room to spare. it also can tow just about anything you want to tow I pull my 14k 5th wheel with no problems. yes it does not have the power of the ford 6.7 but unless you are towing more than 20k … you will never know the deference but at that point you will need a F350. but that will cost you a arm and a leg. But what normal people tow it cant be beat for the price. it is defiantly a head turner but it is no speed demon vehicle so don't try to drag race a sports car (lol) you wont win. but for a pickup truck it is a great value for the money. some people talk about the reliability of it but I have had 2 and had no problems but the ones complaining about it is their a reason it broke down is you don't take care of it like change the oil or drive it like they stole it then it might have not broke down. it will last you if you do your maintenance like recommended it will last for years to come. my only complaint I have is they put a 25 gal fuel tank on it when it should have been bigger.

Nissan Titan XD vs. Ford F-150
At one time, the F-150 and Titan XD shared similar capabilities, but today the F-150 dominates in every key category. It can haul more, tow more, and offers more choice of engines, interior materials and in-car tech. The F-150's most popular entry trim levels also cost less and offer about the same features.
Nissan Titan XD vs. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
The Silverado is a proper heavy-duty pickup, with proper heavy-duty capacity and an available diesel engine. The 2500HD can outtow the Titan XD by more than 7,000 pounds. The Titan XD's only real advantage in this matchup is its more streamlined configurations. While this comparison isn't exactly equal, both trucks cost about the same but offer very different capability.
Nissan Titan XD vs. Nissan Titan
The Titan XD and standard Titan share similar features and design, including a powerful V8 engine. The standard Titan is shorter in length and weighs less, meaning you get more out of that V8. The Titan is larger and more powerful than a midsize truck but not quite as big as a regular light-duty truck. It's also available with an extended cab and rear-wheel drive. It could be an intriguing possibility for some buyers.
