Both the Mazda 2 and Honda Fit are lightweight and nimble subcompacts, making them fun to drive through twisty corners and tight spaces. They are also inexpensive to buy and maintain. So what can they achieve when given upgraded tires and performance suspension kits? To find out, we brought them head to head at the Edmunds test track. Acceleration was tested with 0-60 and quarter-mile tests, while braking was calculated using 60-0. Handling tests included a timed slalom and two trips around a skid pad to generate a lateral acceleration calculation.
